I hate daw wars. Different daws have different and better features. FL studio is good for making hip hop beats quickly, pro tools is good for mixing, studio one is good for scoring music. I feel like in order to say which is the best daw, you have to use all of them for a solid amount of time. People who use ableton are obviously gonna ableton is the best, same with other daws. That being said, abletons 808 slides look the best out of all daws now
Totally agree here. I like Ableton my bro loves FL, my youngest bro uses Garageband, no judging there. The only DAW I hate is ProTools because f that subscription lol.
One thing that only Ableton has is Push 2. You can probably custom map in other DAWs (other than Ableton I've just used a bit of Logic and I think that's the best DAW for beginners), but Push 2 is just so cleverly designed! You can get so much functionality out of it, much more than many other midi controllers I've tried. But I agree, I'm sure every person will be completely biased for their DAW of use.
I just switched back again after using FL for the last year almost exclusively. I find that I spend more time in Ableton and I feel more creative when working with audio. That flstudio piano roll tho

Ok I kinda have to defend FL's honor here: Keys and scales: just like FL's scale highlighting with a few more exotic scales Comping: kinda cool but not really comparable because FL's arrangement workflow is completely different Hybrid Reverb: just a convolver/convolution reverb. FL has had one for years I think we don't need to talk about slides in FL haha Multiple Clip Edits: again hard to compare because of the pattern workflow in FL but we have ghost notes which is basically the same thing Randomization: FL has the same thing just for more parameters Linked Tracks: not comparable at all because of the different workflows Templates: FL has the same thing Great video regardless of that!

I am an FL Studio user, was just curious what was going on in Ableton. I can see why there are preferences for each but it just comes down to what you're happy with. Both great great DAWs!
Currently i'm using Studio One 5 and i love it but Live is great too and they did a great job with this major update. The new hybrid reverb seems to be a real killer feature!

The MPE editing is my favourite thing by far. If you don't have a ROLI keyboard yet (and the Equator 2 plugin), now's the time. The things you can do with your own samples are crazy. My Seaboard Blocks was gathering dust until the 11 Beta, and now I use it every time I write: new lease of life!
As someone who hasn't touched Ableton I find it quite similar with FL in terms on features and the segment of people they are addressing to. Comping, keys and scales, individual pitch correction, personal templates are features found in FL as well. I guess these days it doesn't matter which DAW you choose, they are all rich in features, so better go with the one you're most comfortable with.
Hey Ed could you make a video on how to mix a complete song with vocals. How to bus, use sends, route signals etc.? I can't wrap my head around still...
the option for Reverb is called impulse response !!! a feature already existing in a lot of reverb, and In the RV7000MKII since few years now in Reason !!!

Finally decided to bite the bullet and get Live 11 Suite. I started off really happy with 10 lite but it became very limiting very quickly. My friend who is a world class producer was showing me things and I just couldn't do it with lite, simple stuff like sampler and whatnot. The 8 track limit was also another big pain in the ass and basically made Ableton a sketchbook for ideas without actually being able to realize them. Kinda sucks that upgrades aren't free, but I'm glad I waited to snag 11 instead of 10.
Ableton is a very good sequencer and passable mixer. It can be a composer too but that's more advanced and not its strong point. Think Fruity Loops with a far better experience in granularity. That doesn't come without serious caveats. It's a weird program and to utilize best. It takes effort and intermediate knowledge to parse the quirks.
I have one thing the last thing that it lacks my heart warmed with linked tracks I thought they listened to my prayers but no when you are mixing, something it is really handy to be able to load the same one instance of the same plugin on different tracks you still can´t, have to go one by one if you don´t want to group
I recently got ableton live 10 standard (upgraded from lite) and it let me upgrade to 11 free of charge. I’m excited to check it out once it’s finished installing
Ableton is good software there's no doubt about that. At the end of the day they all produce music and some just faster than others. What every you use make sure its a banger. EdTalenti I'm using Ableton Live 11 Suite and I do like it even though I use FL Studio. I will probably use both. Thanks for all your videos.
imho ableton 11 is still missing some features. Some of the features that I would like to see are strumming, panning of individual notes like velocity (way more useful imo than the chance thing they added), keyboard shortcuts for arming the current track (why can you solo the current track but not arm it???) and legato (you can't even bind your own keyboard shortcut for legato even though you can do so for looping, for example) and return tracks inside of groups. Also, Ableton 11 is pretty raw atm - looks like half of my 3rd party plugins don't work and there are small imperfections like the fact that if you use the midi scales feature you have to set the scale separately for each individual instrument (and fixing that is really simple, they just need to set the last used scale in the project as the default in other midi tracks). Really hyped about comping though
Anybody know how to get the 808 slide thing to snap to grid? Mine just moves around where I do it, but I want it to snap. Edit: worked it out. Click ctrl+4. It will turn on snap mode.
Different DAWs for different workflows and different genres. I own Ableton Live 11 standard and it isn’t my preferred DAW for composition. They make different DAWs because we’re not all the same.

If you get the live 11 Suite, you might as well bundle it up with the push 2. Live 11 is basically only half the experience without it.
