Its great to see you comfortable with the little set backs. Best part of boating is to enjoy yourself no matter what happens or breaks. Good job. Enjoy.
Always travel with a Z-Pak……I keep on my boat and in my duffel bag…I hope you do not leave that dock until steering fixed
Alan, hope you and your crew (And the Hillbilly!) are doing ok after today.
Oh My God just saw the grounding video. I was sickened to see what happened to the Hillbilly. My prayers go out to Allen.
Good luck with the outcome, and no one got injured. I feel for you I really do. Matt Meyer from Big Springs NE
I love the lack drama over a problem i have been subscribed since you took position of your boat you have demonstrated a cool head with problems with your new boat thanks for that and the way you walk us through the problem and the fix is this normal for a new build again thanks for the content and taking us on your journey
I'm an amateur videographer and while I realize you do this for a living your videos are simply excellent. Love your editing!
Wow, thank you! Thanks for watching
Sorry to hear of the mechanical problem . Its great that you improvised to give your crew a great time.
I was going to buy a 70. Boy I'm glad I didn't. They're lemons!
Boating life is great and yet at times full of pitfalls/surprises or opportunities. You demonstrate a reasonable approach to all of this. Thankyou.
B's beautiful voice - I love this! ❤
Are we happy? I'm happy you posted. Enjoy your time with your Friends and Family.

NICE Job!! Cheers!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video
nice job captain
Glad you were able to salvage most of the trip. I look forward to talking with you at the Boat Show. 😊
I hope so too! Thanks
God bless you all. 🙏🙏🙏
Alan - that is crazy.. The boat is new and so many issues you have been having... Insane
And they only get worse.
love it been there done that want to go back
You were so calm...I was anxious sitting on my couch 😂
Gotta stay calmmmmm. Thanks for watching
Looks to me like you have good friends.....
Love your show
Eric
Yes we do. Thanks!
I need Simon and Nicki at my house 😊
Great vlog as usual Alan - software problem……..yikes! Glad to see you don’t pull the fenders up till you’re out of the marina……from memory you can centre the rudders manually from the engine room. Have fun Hillbilly, cheers Swanny
Somebody needs to take the rooster "swimming...." 🐠
No kidding
First drink, a painkiller, Excellent choice. And that doctor definitely had you getting a breathing treatment with a pediatric mask…. Not an adult mask. 🤷♂️ boat looks amazing, love the channel ❤️
Yes they warned me they only had pediatric ones. I thought it was funny. Thanks for watching
The best things happen when you make the best of it.
Agree!
Why don't you have more followers?? I'm sitting here in snow, just got back from the Sundance film festival here in my home state of Utah and this is just what I needed!
Good question….most of my viewers don’t subscribe for some reason. Thanks for watching!!
Congrats on not banging your head! See you in June!
Congrats indeed, though I'll confess I was a little disappointed...
You would think they would have electric shades on that boat.
Good job making lemonade out of lemons
Alan, I saw a post on FB of what looks to be an Aquilla 54 on the beach in Leverick Bay. Hope it's not you and that all is well. 🙏🙏
Well Allen, bummer about the firmware, but at least it's just firmware and not a hydraulic motor or linkage. I keep looking for the Big Dog in each video, one day it will happen. About approaching a buoy, I always cam along side one boating to grab it off the stern, then walked it back up to the bow but I guess I never had a boat with a 25' beam either. Great video again! Here's to a speedy fix on the rudder control! 🍻
You and me both! Thanks for watching
Always a good day for a painkiller
I'm surprised you don't have an autopilot. Aquila should have a manual tiller for just such an emergency.
We're renting a 54' Aquila April 21st-27th in the BVI. Is the Hillbilly wandering around then?
Yes!
Asking for a friend-did you leave the helm before your lines were cleated to the mooring?😊
Absolutely. You’ll notice I had a remote yacht controller in my hand that allows me to control the boat while not at the helm. Thanks for watching!
Nice how cats can do that on engines alone. Is there an emergency manual rudder? Some I've seen had one, though they can be a pain. In the early 80's we got the lake, backed in and the boat wouldn't start. Nobody anywhere around, no cables, so no way to jump it. It was either a 90, 115 or 150 Mercury outboard, can't remember. But there was a pull starter disc on top along with a cord in a bag attached to the engine case. So why not. Then we spent a week recovering from pulled muscles. The incredible hulk would have had trouble trying to pull start that motor. So, like that "emergency" pull start, I suspect that even if it has an "emergency" manual rudder it wouldn't be easy. Nice job keeping things rolling.
Thanks! And thanks for watching
Maybe you should have a captin. You can obviously afford one.
Perhaps he enjoys Captaining himself, A lot do.
@@zerofox7347 well at least with a captain he could leave the boat drink all he wants and not worry about it. Also takes some liability off him should something else go wrong.
Something to be said for heavy single engine full displacement boats with mechanical systems and not electronic! This boat although beautiful is a maintenance nightmare! No no no to anything Volvo on a boat! Try nordhavn, Selene, Krogen or DeFever!
No steering, no rudder, no boat......
great video!!! and im hoping im wrong but if im not than he should change the title into no steering, no rudder, nowhere else to go than on the rocks. there is a picture of it on Facebook on the bvi community board, apparently lost an engine ... just saying dont play hero, play safe and practice good seamanship. this unfortunately represents the opposite
You are wrong and shame on you for saying those things. I posted a picture of it on CZcams with a description of what happened. Maybe your social media skills should sharpen a bit before you pop off say something ignorant
I hope you get good use out of the Las Vegas bottle opener.
I’m very sorry about your boat.
love these videos but it seems like these Aquilas have nothing but problems.
Little did you know the worst was to come
I thought shit like that (steering failure) only happened to me ⁉
Right?!? Ugh. Thanks for watching
Health habits Multivitamin, zinc 35 mgs , Quercetin 500mgs, Vitamin D 5000 iu , Vitamin C 500mgs x 2 daily , You will then build up your immune system Stay 💪
Thank you!!
I really enjoyed your videos
You have a very calming voice, Be well
In my opinion, a poor decision to leave a safe harbor without steering. Fortunate that another hole in the Swiss cheese accident model did not materialize. A clear case of get-there-itis.
Love your videos but I’m going nowhere with a Capt who embarks on a journey, with passengers, with NO steering. Absolutely not on the Coast Guard’s list of recommended things to do. It is however on their list of irresponsible things to do.
Disappointed to see this.
No steering calls for a Painkiller!
Three!
You’re so close to St John in the USVI. Are you able to visit St John and the US Virgin Islands from the BVIs? What are the rules?
Love the channel, hate the Cowboys. The boys losing made the Eagles loss bearable.
Sucked.
I think he currently has Beach problem……
I don’t normally comment but that was a risk not worth taking. It wasn’t even a nice day. Plus you were sick. Everything was telling you not to go. Especially given you had friends on board. Yes it’s a plus to have dual engines and when things go wrong you can get home but to do this by choice was irresponsible. A lot of new people to boating based on the comments and this sets a poor example.
