Repair NECA Batman 1989 Grapple/Grapnel Spear Gun and Modify Teardown

- After approx 20 shots and retractions with my brand new NECA 1989 Batman Grapnel launcher, something happened inside the casing which stopped the toy from retracting the string.
After many sleepless nights, I decided to reverse engineer Batman's Spear Gun! Something I've always wanted to do!
Check out the video for tips on how to get into this wonderful toy and fix it.

The retract button on mine stopped working after three shots. I greatly appreciate the video and may try it later, but hearing all the other build problems I wonder if it's worth it.
I may just cut the string so at least I can load the spear into it.

How did you pop that second screw with out messing up the plastic my grapple gun line I think is caught
I can’t seem to get the screws covers off. Any tips for how to do that?
Wish I had seen this an hour ago. I was trying to modify the gun so the halves could separate like in the movie. Didn’t know there were screws but I was able to pry the front of the back half open enough to get the front part out. Then I shaved down the tab one one side so that I can lock it in place or easily remove it at will!

Mine had same problem. Thanks for vid. Sadly as i was putting it back together I broke one of the wires for the retract button.
This happened to me with the animated grapnel! I understand that a retractable thread is going to get tangled, but it's ridiculous that NECA have basically made it so that you can't easily open up the grapnel and fix it without breaking it. I'd advise against buying any of these tbh.
Those two screw cap come off twist a lil with a flat head till they free turn then take a small knife or flat head underneath the side and it'll pop out to give access to those screw

I just had something like this happen to mine the other day. How exactly do you pop the covers off to get to the screws?
I want to make the string a bit longer I hope it works
I am not able to push my spear in, is it because I need batteries?
I wanna make a longer string and a put a more powerful spring in it.
