    Would be interesting to see if it is more accurate than the good Rockchucker.

      The silence about concentrically and shoulder bump consistency is deafening. Why RCBS decided not to use over-cam on the REBEL like the Rock Chucker and the PRAZI-PRESS is a mystery and, in my opinion, a mistake. A minor revision to the toggle block that would allow for cam-over in one guise and no cam-over with a simple reverse installation of the toggle block might be doable. For now, I'll keep my old Rock Chucker and skip the REBEL. If the dies and brass are up to it, the run out is virtually nil on every cartridge I load. This has been the case for many years, and I suspect many more years to come.

      @@albertan9386 I have over camming presses and those that are not. I think that the over-camming doesn't do much if anything. Of course you are entitled to your opinion. If anything pushing a shoulder back more than necessary is a negative thing. Think about it. If you have a die bottom out how is it going to go any further unless it crushes the die? If using neck sizing collet dies in fact you can damage many necks just with dealing with an over-camming press before getting your setting right. Pros and cons of everything. Hype in many cases like over-camming.

      Me too, I have never owned an RCBS press until the rebel, I was surprised immediately at the sloppyness. The main bearings in the linkage have a pop to them at a certain point of the stroke. (Wallered out) and the ram has at least a 1/16” or 1/8” wiggle when it’s topped out in the stroke. Not cool. My handle will move side to side almost an inch.

    Good video. I was on the fence between the Rock Chucker Supreme and the Rebel. I normally use a Lee turret press but I just bought the RCBS Rebel to accommodate large base .577/.450 Martini Henry dies, which wont fit in the Lee turret. The Martini Henry case is large, so the extra clearance and strength of the Rebel fit the bill.

  • @echosreloadingchamber7306

    What about comparing the rock chucker Supreme against the rebel and do resizing and check neck concentricity and bullet concentricity using the same dies and the same caliber like 6.5. Supposedly the ram is supposed to be very tight with the cast iron Base??

    I just got my new Rebel so far I love it, This is my second RCBS Press I have an old Jr Press that's at least forty years old and still running fine will probably set it up as a depriming station only. Converted the Rebel to the Hornady lock and load system, Wish Hornady would have made the bushing like a nut instead of rounded, hard to get it tight enough that it doesn't spin off when changing dies. Probably use some lock tight on the bushing and see if that help keeps the bushing locked in the press. Gavin would love to see a runout comparison of the two presses!

    I'm impressed with the mass of the new press, however, call me ole fashion but I still prefer my old original RCBS rockchucker press I bought back in 1975. I prefer to prime my cases with my press with my primer tubes and primer mechanism. My press has the green plastic spent primer catcher and it never has gotten in the way like the newer rockchucker press.
    I load everything from .204 Ruger up to .416 Rigby and .470 nitro express and have plenty of room for them in my good ole faithful rockchucker press.

    I wish the Rebel came with shorter handles for operations that do not need all the pressure using a long handle ie. Priming, expanding. Erogermacis says this will take less wear and tear on your body. I have been using 2 shorter handles for years on my rock chucker.

    • @Burris19D
      @Burris19D Před 2 lety

      I also prefer a slightly shorter handle as well. Just curious, where did you get the shorter handles for your RC? I imagine I could have someone make me one for either press but would rather not have to find that person.
      I like the handle on the Lee Classic Turret I have for pistol calibers where you can adjust it to any length you want and it has a slight cant in the angle so you can move it where you want. A shame more presses don't utilize something similar for a custom fit. I believe 2-3" off the RC or Rebel would be perfect.

I put a piece of plastic with Velcro to take up the slack between the frame and back of primer catch assembly. Works 100%. I like RCBS its just time to market a new press. Is there no way to attach a hose for spent primer collection like on the Redding Big Boss 2? Does the hole where the spent primers exit the ram go inside the frame at the top of the stroke? Therefore introducing all the spent primer crud into the frame ram interface?

    About the ejection of spent primers and primer crud, does the exit hole at the lower part of the ram protrude clear of the press body when the ram is in the upper most position, or does the exit hole get blocked by the press body and bearing surface, thus contaminating the bearing surface?

    • @garrytalley8009

    I like RCBS' the design of the new Rebel press and it's good to see that they did away with the priming tool that came with the Rock Chucker, which I've had for 5 years now and I've never used the priming tool, I have a separate RCBS hand priming tool that I've been using for about 25 years now and it works great. The other improvement that I like about the Rebel is the spent primer disposal mechanism, the Rock Chucker's tends to cause stoppage in the tubes that drop the spent primers into the tray every once in a while, it's not a big deal you just have to stop the process and clear the stoppage.

  • @byzantinelegionnaire9469

    I was going to get the Rebel Plus kit... but I like the universal hand primer in the master kit much better and mid-south has the master kit at over $100 less than the plus kit... so I am going with the master kit and just buy the powder dispenser stand and other parts like shell holders myself.

    Another interesting video, but I'm puzzled as to why resize and load those casings and not measure them for precision and runout like in the 14 press shootout vid. I don't think I'm the only one who'd be interested in those results.

    • @Burris19D
      @Burris19D Před 2 lety

      Agreed, would still love to see the numbers. I have some older presses but am thinking about picking up a new single stage for precision work. Narrowed it down to Rebel, Rock Chucker, Big Boss 2, or the Mec Marksman. Mostly leaning towards the Mec or Rebel though.
      From the little I've read, the numbers look great on the runout with this press but I'd love to see some real numbers compared against other presses side by side. I like to sit down and load so the summit is out. As well as the coax, which doesn't seem to produce any better runout anyways.

    • @Burris19D
      @Burris19D Před 2 lety

      While on the subject I'd love to see 2-3 presses tested side by side with and without the hornady lock-n-load bushings everyone loves. In the 14 press test the Lee and Hornady presses with the bushings had the worst numbers but I'm unsure if it's from the press or the bushings. Lots of precision loaders use them but I am skeptical.

    The rock chucker is better because the linkage is cast steel. Cast is stronger than flat bar. There is not that much tonnage applied to really make a difference, since the finished cartridge is the same.

    Gavin, Reloading 101 question: I have just finished mounting my new Rebel press to the bench, I found a clip in the packing box which I suspect is part of the press. Best described as a wire half circle clip. The shell holder sits fairly loose in the press, does this clip provide tension to the shell holder? You mention in your video the the shell holder should have tension when pushed in.
    Please advise. I have not used RCBS presses before, just Wilson in-line dies.
    Appreciate any assistance.

    I like the primer system on the rebel and the extra mass. But I actually like my supreme more. I'm one of the few that use the on primer system. I don't like greasing the ram. I've seen what grease does to a high use situation that it would endure. Unless there is a bushing Between the two to prevent wear on the frame... That's the truck mechanic in me talking. If it came with an ergo roller handle like the inline fabrication, and lighting in the frame, I'd be really interested in buying one. But I'll keep using my supreme.

    Gavin, many thanks for your videos, loved the 14 single stage press shootout. Would love to know your thoughts between the Rebel and the Big Boss 2. I’ve one issue with each of them. When loading, I mount the charged cases from the right (right hand) and place the projectile with left hand, simultaneously. The 0 degree/perpendicular O frame presses suit this. Therefore, I think this rules the Big Boss out for me, unless I can squeeze my right hand in from the left, when seat of the left side of the press. Do you think this would be possible to do? The one issue I have with the RCBS presses, including the Rebel, is it only has two fixing points, and they are centred, leaving less leverage to the front edge of the base plate and bench. Does this allow much flex on the bench in your experience?
