Helpful Hint: If you don't want to spend money at a food truck, check the nearby hotels cafes and restaurants. The hotel my friends and I stayed at for Vidcon a few years back always had a mini diner open for the early evening and we not only had saved tons of money, some of the portions we could've easily shared. Check the local hotels!

I keep getting comments that are misunderstanding me in this video, thats fine, i should have explained better. I had no problem with 16 year olds being at the parties. At the Great Wolf party there was a large amount of 12 year olds and younger running around, many without parental supervision. I wasn’t, nor would i ever, judge adults for choosing to drink when there is an open bar. I dont care. This was me verbalizing my own issues related to my upbringing in an abusive alcoholic home. People drinking around children makes me uncomfortable, so i was ready to remove myself from the situation. I didn’t because I was with my friend and it wouldn’t have been fair to her for me to have us leave because my anxiety was up. Same with the Rode party. That’s all.
Some things that didn't make the final edit:
-While I was outside with Elixir Wednesday morning, security guards kept recognizing him and jokingly asking if he was staying out of trouble. Some even asked for photos with him. At one point, one of the Vidcon higher-ups came up to us and asked Elixir if he had a moment to chat. They walked off to talk and I assume he just told Elixir he was on thin ice. Elixir, of course, didn't listen. Peep his channel if you want to know what I'm talking about.
-Lissa and I saw a couple that we were both certain looked familiar but we couldn't remember who they were. I said, "That's the problem with Facetune I don't know what any of these people look like." Because the universe hates me, the guy heard me, and as Lissa and I were walking away, he yelled "YOU KNOW ME!" and he and his girlfriend ran off. Throughout the rest of Vidcon, every time we crossed paths with them, the guy would make some reference to the fact that we knew him or should know him. He never told us their names so I still have no goddamn clue who they were.
-One of the companies in the expo hall was Blinger. I never went to them to have rhinestones put in my hair because I anxiously mess with my hair a lot, but every third person at Vidcon had rhinestones in their head or in their beard. My friends who weren't at Vidcon started getting Instagram ads for Blinger while I was there and now they are convinced my life influences their ads so that's fun.
-To clarify the guy who claimed he had copyrighted his face was talking a big game in that he said he had to protect himself because he had a large channel with no face reveal. He claimed to work with a company that would claim videos with his face in it. I asked if he worked with Collab or a similar established company and he just said: "I work with a company" and wouldn't tell me what it was called. So I already knew something was up prior to finding his channel.
-All of the security gaurds at this event were great. They were all very nice and some even asked me and Lissa about our channels and asked questions about our camera gear and setups.
I'll add more as I remember them.

Because the universe hates me, the guy heard me, and as Lissa and I were walking away, he yelled "YOU KNOW ME!" and he and his girlfriend ran off.” That’s the FUNNIEST thing I’ve read all month. My students are mostly very respectful, and disrespect doesn’t last long if it does happen. I’ve even had parents come in mid class if their child just blatantly refuses to behave (sometimes my teaching assistant will get them because we can’t get them to behave) and take them out to tell them off. While the disruption can make it hard to maintain the atmosphere of class, usually the student is a bigger disruption at that point.

Vidcon was my first convention literally ever, so most of my experience the first time going around was general disappointment/surprise. But my second time around, now that I knew what to expect, I actually had a lot of fun. My tip if you’re considering going to Vidcon: treat it like a trip to an amusement park. Bring all the stuff you’d bring to an amusement park like water, a backpack, sunscreen, a portable charger, and some sort of fan.
Bring an extra $20 in cash for parking in ones and fives so you have exact change, or research parking in the area. You can also do what I call “the Disneyland trick” and park in a residential area and get an Uber for 25% of the price of parking if you’re just dead tired or lazy.
Like she mentioned in the video, unless you REALLY want to try something from the food trucks as a treat, don’t use them as your primary food source. Eat at least an hour early to beat the crowds and just go to the food court in the Marriott Hotel. Vidcon doesn’t ban food in any of the panels, so you’re free to carry around your leftovers and eat later if you get hungry.
Be prepared to deal with screaming entitled children and to wait in line for big creators. The key is to just manage your time (the Vidcon app offers a schedule/planner for panels and events, so use this feature!) Go to the panels scheduled before the ones you want to ensure you get a good seat, plus you get to see creators you otherwise wouldn’t have seen.
All things considered, Vidcon does offer a lot of free perks for just the Community badges, to the point where a lot of people will buy both Creator/Industry and Community badges, so don’t worry if you feel you’re missing out by not paying more. While there is a lot of cool exclusive merch to buy, the convention itself has a lot of booths that give out free stickers, bracelets, and the like, and there isn’t as much “extras” or “perks” to buy as you would think. Meet & greets as well as their evening events such as movie nights, prom night, and their attractions like the maze and Ferris wheel are all free. There’s also fun stuff like free candy dispensers, a trampoline, photo spots, a giant bouncy house, and interactive booths like their Nerf tournament. The only limit to how much fun you have is your patience for lines and annoying children lol.

I've only ever been as a creator but I have colleagues who've wrangled yellow badges (featured/invited creators) and they get a TON of stuff. There's a whole separate "lounge" that, as far as I can tell, is basically a second expo hall with way better free stuff (Twitter was giving out customizable jackets in 2019), they get free food and coffee, it sounds like a pretty sweet dea, plus presumably you have access to all the Industry panels and receptions and networking events. They're super opaque about how you get invited though. A friend of mine bought an $800 industry track badge and then literally a day later got an email saying he was Invited... butohbytheway industry badges are non-refundable sorryyyyyy. It seems like they maybe value "loyalty," like if you keep coming back every year and you have a respectably sized platform they'll probably invite you eventually? Or obviously if they put you on a panel or something, or if one of your friends is on a panel and can get you a guest badge.

I couldn't believe they got rid of the networking sessions, I fully agree with your point at 7:40. Without those, the creator badge is absolutely pointless now. All of the talks are just product demos and consultants pitching themselves now. Such a bummer. Considering how Vidcon Baltimore doesn't even have a creator track, it feels like we're being slowly pushed out of the experience entirely.

    @dickstarrbuck Před 4 lety +3

So I ONLY found you recently, dunno how.
But I've pretty much only got Creator Badges every year.
The FIRST year of the creator badge was done the best and the worst.
The first year as creator badge was designed as a 'semi' education badge. And it gave you access to 'well known' creators, but mainly for creators and fans. And the fan thing was okay mostly because it wasnt a big annoying issue. But then as the years progressed, what people realized is "oh, creators get access to creators. So instead of learning from creators and getting informations, creator panels were PACKED with fans. So if you didnt show up an hour in advanced you were screwed. So "Learning how to film a music video with creator X" was packed, but the people in the panel didnt care about learning, they only wanted to see creator X. So by 2019, the had to change up the creator badge so creators now got less access to creators, but 2019, creator badge lost its usefulness also.
The panels all became some sort of "youtube 101" for almost all panels, and the people who showed up ranged from people just looking to party to people who were serious about creator. By the end of it, Creator badges were just for people who want to hopefully see some creators, and just hang out. Industry badges were the only ones that were serious badges.

    1. Sell tickets online with first come first serve with 1 ticket half price if a minor is coming or whoever you give it to.
    2. After tickets are sold have free tickets the next day.
    3. Do use just Twitter but other social media networks.
    4. Having parking reserved.
    5. Have snacks, water and Gatorades. And have separate entrances and exits if you are planning on returning after getting something to eat, use bathroom

Sounds a bit more of a hassle than it's worth. Also as an exhibitor who's done other shows they really don't seem like they have their stuff together. I mean this is not a plug but I'm on a comic con circuit and I do on average between 10-20 shows a year (lucky if I get more than 3 this year thank you 2020) and the use of opaque tote boxes, cardboard boxes and suitcases to cart your stuff around is normal. Not once have I ever been told it needs to be in a clear plastic bag. Also never had to sneak into a venue to set up either, I'm told to be there at a set time and given a set window to set up in. Lastly when the events are sponsored, the sponsors name is everywhere.

Aight but it depends on the food truck to go to. I’ve never been to vid con but I’ve gone to wondercon about 6 times and the food trucks are wayyyyyy better priced and just better overall compared to the regular Anaheim convention center food.

You're right! You can't copyright a face. Copyright is for the expression of ideas. And no intellectual property rights can cover something made in nature, which includes a person's face. So yeah, that dude was just a troll.

Lol as someone who’s always found the great wolf lodge commercials to be hilarious cause wtf really? People would go on vacation to a hotel because it has a big indoor pool? Y not wait and go to a regular hotel, during an outdoor-pool-is-open season, which would most likely have more pools and at least full water parks would be open at the same time of the year. I just can’t picture counting down till my vacation if driving or flying to a hotel. I figure the availability of the pool is awesome to those in states where the majority of the year is snow and it’s a literal trip to even reach a shitty beach, but when that’s the exciting thing of the vacation >_> it’s kind of like being excited for room service. Or a vending machine. It’s an included AMENITY.
Ok that’s it on my unnecessary rant about a hotel (chain?) I’ve never been to. I hope their rooms r clean. Sanitary-clean. Not clean-LOOKING-clean/passes inspection by disinterested trainer of equally disinterested cleaning person... sorry >_> I’ve just had my fair share of “this is not what it looks like online” *(insert online dating joke here)* being this close to touristy Orlando, Miami and old-ass Ft. Lauderdale

As someone who lives somewhere where winters get to be in the negatives and the snow gets as high as three feet, having a heated indoor water park to escape to sometimes can be a fun thing! It’s especially nice for parents with young children, as it’s a cheaper alternative to vacationing somewhere else. Our winters are brutal, and things like this are fun!
However, they are certainly overpriced, and as she said in the video, they’re dealt only a one time thing.
