How to handle the consistency of polymer clay - Tutorial [Sub] | Ana Belchí

- Hello! I'm sure you've experienced one of the following situations:
The first one: you go to your workshop, pick up a packet of clay and when you start working with it, it turns out that all your work is deformed. The clay has a consistency very similar to chewing gum and you can't do anything with it.
The second one: you open a packet of clay, cut a couple of sheets, put it through the pasta machine and what you get is a bunch of little pieces of clay that look like a pile of sand. Impossible to work with.
Well today, I'm going to try to explain why this happens and how you can fix it.

También uso Cernit, traté de hacer macarones y la arcilla es muy suave, se me hundieron los círculos al cortalos...mientras le tomaba foto a uno, pasaron varios minutos,corté el círculo y no se hundió tanto...creo haré lo de la Maicena porque no suelo acondicionar todo el bloque, sólo lo que voy a trabajar...yo traté de recuperar varios bloques de Fimo y era una de migas cuando pasaba el rodillo....traté con el Magic Mix pero mejor tiré todo y compré Cernit, estoy encantada y me gusta mucho como explicas, eres el hada madrina para resolver problemas 😅😊❤

Con arcillas muy blandas ya no hago nada porque lo he pasado bastante mal en su momento. Las reservo para el invierno, cuando la temperatura favorece un poco más. el trabajo.
En mi ciudad no hay tiendas de manualidades especializadas que vendan arcilla polimérica, así que tengo que pedirlas online. En verano llegaban todas con consistencia de chicle , así que ni una más. Hago pedidos más grandes en primavera y evito esos picos de temperatura que alcanzan en las furgonetas.

When I leach clay instead of using Books, if you sit on it, your body, weight and warmth will make it reach very quickly 10 minutes, I’ve also noticed that Cernit clay leeches much faster than other, so don’t leave it overnight
Agree! You can't leave Cernit around too long after you open the package.

Saludos, para empezar a trabajar por primera vez y no se tiene maquina de pasta ¿se puede utilizar solo el rodillo tanto para arcillas viejas como frescas?
Es curioso porque en francés no utilizamos la palabra lixivar sino "dégorger" (desembocar) para decir "leach". :D

Una duda: ¿La arcilla polimérica es lo mismo que la pasta de modelar? ¿Es decir el "modeling clay"?
Important information. I was quite salty for a long time when I discovered I had to add an extra step to make the clay useable, super soft clay- I call slobbery clay irritates me. However, I've learned the hard way to just leach the clay if it's too soft- otherwise it's extremely frustrating. lol Same goes for too stiff clay. After 2020- all the stores got their stock rotated and all the clay is super fresh. lol I guess I should be grateful the silver lining to that scenario is actually plasticizer. lol 😆😉
I can relate. Around 2019, after 8 years of making rather large sculptures of all polymer, I started having trouble with what I called "chewing gum" clay. Makes me chuckle that Anna calls it the same. Then, during and after Covid it all just got worse. I tried setting it aside, leaching it, etc. and Cernit came around but Premo didn't. I am still quite salty about it because I'd never had this trouble and it takes up half my time of a piece to get it semi-right. I still can't make what I did before. Unfortunately...or fortunately...I have gone on to other materials and leave the clay for smaller items.

The truth is that when we get used to working with a clay that has a high hardness. Switching to a soft one is a headache.

Hola Ana, quiero empezar hacer figuras personalizadas, compré cernit doll, venía que parecia un chicle, puse un poco entre dos folios para endurecerla, pero al rato de empezar a trabajarla vuelve a ablandarse y no hay quien haga nada con ella, es frustrante 😅, que me aconsejas? He visto por ahi de meterla unas horas en el frigorífico dentro de un táper, para que se endurezca... Crees que es buena idea? Gracias
Alfonso, aunque la has puesto entre papeles, es posible que no sea tiempo suficiente. Si la arcilla está verdaderamente blanda, tendrás que dejarla bastantes horas. Pero comprueba como está cada hora Muchísimas gracias
