There was NEVER one like her and there will NEVER be ANOTHER one. She was a live wire. An inexhaustible fire. Wildly energetic. UNAPOLOGETIC! What she demonstrated Will never be emulated. Australia's reigning rock chick. She did this country - and the world - so proud. Never be forgotten.
What a performer she was. Her own method, her own look, everything about her was unique. Mark McEntee was a great musician, taking nothing away from him. Everything that mainstream was, they weren’t, and they were in a league of their own. One of the greatest Aussie bands ever.
Oh my heart when she said, "i even Love myself some days" 😭💔❤️❤️ RIP you amazing Woman. Thank you for your great, unique music.. There will never be another you. ❤️🎶❤️
As a deep lover of rock n roll, I feel totally gifted by Chrissy and the Divinyls. I loved their music their stage drama and most of all I love Christine Amphlett. WOW!!!!
The total and adored Rock and Roll Queen of Australia, if not the world. Who strutted and posed, pouted and blazed all over the stage, in perfect timing, furious unique tone and delivery, in perfect key and rhythm... looking like every man's wet dream. She was peerless. Is Peerless. So glad to see her enjoying some stability there, at that time on her journey.
Chrissy locked those eyes and attitude on me as she sang in an Innisfail niteclub back in The Day because she caught me looking at her ... with ..very high interest as I headed to the bathrooms and she gave me that amazing come hither look , I was 18, she was in her school uniform 😶.. a truly awesome stage presence and personal crowd contact.. but it completely freaked me out.. and she loved it. So did I. I won't forget that one. I miss them and her much. Sorry it ended that way. What a band, what amazing music, what a musical legacy and what a life story.
I worked in Japanese restaurant in Perth in the mid 80s. We were one of the few exotic places open on Sunday nights. This attracted many bands who were passing through. Phil Collins probably being our most famous customer. The great thing was that to get to the toilet patrons had to walk right through the kitchen wherein I'd collar them for an autograph. Chrissie came in and she was so pissed and sweaty and so completely unattractive but she happily signed a music magazine I just happened to have lying about. RIP sweaty girl Xxx
When they get off stage they are in heavy makeup. Sweaty and exhausted. Such a story but performing , drugs , drinking. It normal for singers to look disheveled. Lol. I’ve met some very great performers after a show and have to stand back and sink it all in. RIP Chrissy. God bless.
I don’t truly believe that we will ever have another rock chick here in Australia that will even come close to Chrissy’s talent ! Rip GODESS you are massively missed ! 🖕🏼Cancer 🖕🏼
Mentioned to the Icehouse team after seeing them in concert recently how good it would be to be able to see Chrissie perform with them one more time. We all agreed about what a talent she was and how big a loss it was when she left us…
I think she was full of music and pouring your soul and heart and mind creates a fusion very few can attain and the stage and love of the people propels her performance to a level we can all cherish upon the vibes
It's amazing how the story is the same with every performer when it come to allowing the demons to play with you. The AKA spirits for Alcohol is rightfully so. Great interview with her. She certainly sorted it all out.c];-)
In 1983 a buddy and myself took turns as we rode from Southern Idaho to Anaheim for the US festival on a Honda Shadow 600. I was never really into the new wave scene and I was there primarily for Metal day. Then the Divinyls and Missing Persons performed and I took notice. I also really liked INXS, Flock of Seagulls (the video “I ran” was always on MTV) and Men at Work had a couple of songs. Great event, too much heat, lots of hot chicks and a ride back to Southern Idaho.
Good interview, if short. I admit a bit surprising. She has a lovely speaking voice. I don't think I'd ever heard her speak before. she seems calm and intelligent. 53 is too young to go. Her health issues were just too serious. I think she wasn't able to fight her cancer the way most people do because her multiple sclerosis prevented her from getting treatment. I really have no doubt that if she had lived, she would still be making music. But we can only wonder. rest in peace Chrissy.🕊☯
In the 80’s and 90’s it wasn’t unusual for Australian successful bands to walk away with Dept. Managers made good money whilst the band’s due the ridiculous contracts they signed inherited the Dept which went to management record companies
Smart, beautiful and self destructive and dead at fifty-three. Even today the mural in that back lane over the wheely bins in Geelong still has enormous power. I to looked at it and it's nothing on uneven bricks. But, I was amazed at how it came out on the vid I made...it seemed stunning alive. Amphlett is one who will never rest in peace.
I thought it was a song from an Austin Powers movie? Never knew there was a band . Until today 2023 I had no idea what the person looked like that sang the song. Same thing with INXS , I was years behind on that wave too.
It is a shame that she never got the recognition in the US that she deserved .. I never see her name listed in greatest women of rock .. just ridicules.
I knew one of the nephews of the Divinyls' guitarist. He told me that the guitarist too was soon out of money back in the late 1990s. He then had to rely on his wife.
She was an amazing Aussie gal and a great singer too. I loved her voice and you're not a true blue Aussie if you don't have The Divinyls albums in your collection.
Wow i just found out this wonderful woman died many years ago :-( I had always heard 'i touch myself' on the radio and enjoying it, but then i actually downloaded it (video too) and listened more than a few times and realised just what a great voice and how sexy this lady was.. so much so i googled her name to find this sad info. God bless you Christine Amphlett RIP for all eternity X
It's one of her most famous songs but it's probably my least favourite. The *Australian version* of What a Life is unbelievably good. The US version not so much.
I wonder when this interview was originally done? It says it aired in April of 2013, but Chrissy passed away on the month and year, so obviously it was done before that.
That's what it means to become demon possessed. The word Daemon means to distribute fortunes, Chrisy was possessed with seeking her fortune and it seems she ended up in a war for her soul. I would have loved to have a chat with her as I went through a similar experience myself.
Tough, honest, raw, and vulnerable…I will always admire her greatly for these attributes, and I will be forever grateful for their music! It says an awful lot about living in a ‘certain period’ in Australia, and hopefully gives rise to people to never give up on themselves, to have hope, to nurture and value the ‘inner strength’ required to accept one’s ‘self’, warts and all, and ultimately to lead them to be able to heal the broken hearts of painful memories for good! Though we may at times ‘be broken’, we should not lose faith in the possibility that we can also ‘be mended!’ namaste Armjn 😉🛡️👑🩸💚⚔️🙏🀄️🏴☠️
It's easy to enjoy and love her music from other countries or even as a young Australian. But you really needed to grow up in Australia in the 80s to really appreciate some of the cultural references and the vibe she was tapping into and a part of.
She was a rock goddess
our finest
Hell hath no fury?
The very last one!! And she was ours….
There was NEVER one like her and there will NEVER be ANOTHER one.
She was a live wire.
An inexhaustible fire.
Wildly energetic.
UNAPOLOGETIC!
What she demonstrated
Will never be emulated.
Australia's reigning rock chick.
She did this country - and the world - so proud.
Never be forgotten.
✔️
Chrissy will always be a legend , taken too soon , I will never forget her , a very special lady .
Jesus. That last line she said brought tears to my eyes. She was an amazing woman and may she RIP.
That voice. It makes any song better

Legendary Aussie RockStar ❤
I love her answer to being asked about urinating on stage "I don't know if I ever purposely did it"😄
it' a great answers 😀

God I love this Woman
Best concert ever festival hall Brisbane in the early 80s
❤
Didn't know she passed away actually. I liked her attitude a lot.
Rest in Peace Chrissy
What a woman. Very missed

Did she have a separate income?
She got her inspiration from Angus Young. No wonder she was a badass. ❤
❤❤❤❤❤
She was easily as powerful a singer and stage presence as Pat Benatar. And a raw sexuality like none other. We lost her to soon.
🇦🇺😎👍
She was an amazing Aussie gal and a great singer too. I loved her voice and you're not a true blue Aussie if you don't have The Divinyls albums in your collection.
Amphlett was Punk incarnate!
She is missed
Gents to all of us who were around in 1991, do we all agree that Christine Amphlett was a hot piece of tail UH.
great aussies...😊😊
Too bad she's dead, I've always liked her music.
Wow i just found out this wonderful woman died many years ago :-(

I just find out myself today. Funny how life happens. No auto tune just raw emotion and talent. The Divinyls!
They don't make them like Christine anymore
HOW GOOD WAS SHE ?
GOOD is a massive understatement! The woman was phenomenal!
Her voice was so sexy. RIP
I wonder when this interview was originally done? It says it aired in April of 2013, but Chrissy passed away on the month and year, so obviously it was done before that.
yes my mistake it was aired in 2005, have fixed it up

Cool. I wasn't even aware that she had passed away until recently. RIP Chrissy 😞
I didn't think she was all that attractive.... Until I saw the video for "I touch myself.". After that, I had a crush on her until the day she died.
Austin Powers is crying ..........Hard .
what was that ACDC song? I can't for the life of me remember the name
in the end she would have been happier being a suburban mum. . .that's the best goal

she died young she lived fast died young and had a good lookin corpse RIP chrissy
You just know Shirley Manson from Garbage got a ton of inspiration from her.
She always seemed a bit crazy.

*Did you hear the one about the lead singer of a famous band who was really EXTRAORDINARILY shy ...*
*oh, that's right --- they ALL are*
I think this interview is glossy, ham-fisted, and phoney and doesn't even begin to touch the surface of what this woman was all about...
What's ham fisted mean?
