    Another excellent video. The diagram’s explanations were a great help especially the gear ⚙️ ratio charts. It was very cool to see how the 10-51T even with the 42T its a lower climbing gear than the 2x yet only a 0.16% difference in the top end. That’s barely a fraction of a wheel turn when high-tailing down the tarmac. No brainer there 42T x 10T-51T to replace my 2x11

    I am glad to see GRX (and 105) in mechanical 12 speed - electronic is all well and good - but not worth the cost imo
    and the whole tactile feeling of shifting and riding is what I love about mechanical groupsets.

      @GravelCyclist  Před rokem +3

      The one exception is the new RX880 wheelset, it is Micro Spline / HG L2 compatible only (12-Speed Cassettes), meaning no 11-Speed Compatibility. I hope Shimano launches an 11-40 Cassette for the 2x Drivetrain later. I asked multiple times about this particular ratio while at the camp.

      @@GravelCyclist 11-40 would make sense. 10-45 has big gaps, and the 10t cog is useless IMO. I would need smaller chain rings to use the 10t.

      FYI, 11-40 in 11-Speed at least, works perfectly with 48/31 GRX rings. I showed a little of that setup from my adventure in Rock Cobbler earlier this year. As I was running GRX Di2, I ran the system in Syncro mode 2, which drops to the small ring and shifts a few gears across, when you attempt to ride big ring / largest cog.

    v1 GRX Shimano's big mistake was not designing rear mech to accommodate MTB sized cassettes. Everyone I know switched to SRAM Eagle gearing for gravel or had to hack the rear mech with third party kits like Garbaruk to get a true 50t cassette. Ridiculous. Now two plus years later they are catching up to SRAM and what they should have done in the first place.

    Shimano cues 2x seems to support 46-30 (and 36-22) doubles with 11-45 cassettes so it would be interesting to see if the existing mtb 12 speed 10-45 cassette would also work on GRX 12 speed 2x (and microspline hub).

GRX Fans and long distance gravelbiker w/ heavy ascendings. 51T saves you power, give a lotof perfomance on steep single trails and 10T let you perform downhill much more. Shimano is still entirely focused on racing for these products. If you are bikepacking or touring, run panniers, bags, whatever - and ride mountain routes or long distances, while limited to 40 and 42 chain rings is madness. Racing Unbound? Great, makes sense. Doing a 2-week tour in Austria or Italy, forget it. SRAM will continue to own the off-road / touring market until Shimano figures out there is a world beyond racing. Or, maybe they don't care, which is also fine. Unlike years and years ago, there is zero quality difference between the brands, so Shimano just loses the non-race market.

    I have the 1x11 GRX and wish they had just one more cog in the mid range for slightly smaller shifts at cruising pace, and one more bigger cog at the end. Hard to justify swapping that out at this point. Thankfully I live in the Midwest in the U.S. so I don’t really need a granny gear.

    This new GRX group is overpriced nonsense. I converted my GRX 812 2x11 from 11-32 to 11-42 with an SLX cassette. I have the RD GRX 812 rear derailleur with a medium cage. At the front I have a gradation from 31 to 48. The Wolftooth adapter for the rear derailleur and the cassette including chain only cost me €110. And it works perfectly. This combination is unbeatable, especially when traveling up mountains with luggage. It's just another scam to make money again, nothing else. And with a little skill, the new GRX shifter also works with an XT, SLX or Deore M 6100 12-speed rear derailleur.

Also disappointed there’s no 165mm length 810 crank (there is in 600 series) but happy there’s now a default 38t 1x option. Also disappointed there’s no 160mm 600 series crank (for the g/f). 🤟🏻

      @@GravelCyclist Thanks dude. She’ll be right, tail end of Winter here - you know how it drags on and if you avoid getting sick early it bites you right before Spring. For her rail trail bike, I had to find a 160mm square taper crank and used a “hope” 34t 1x chainring. I recently went with 105 di2 on my all-road bike. The 11-36 is pretty good. I see 105 mech dropped officially today as well. Maybe we’ll get our dream 11-40 (or 11-42) HG cassette when Di2 GRX eventually drops. The cage on the 12 speed 105 stuff is very very big - will undoubtedly work with a cassette like that!
