    Chip hauler here too. I take the key out the truck every time because it’s too easy to forget. If it’s in your hand you never have to wonder……

    Good video I haul chips in the PNW mainly oregon,Washington as a company driver you need to come over here and haul chips we can haul 105,500 lbs.. I definitely agree with you on the overloading part it is not fun digging out five or ten thousand pounds all of our trucks and trailers have have air scales on them so we can get pretty close with our weights

    I love hauling chips! We haul about 104,000 pounds with an 8 axle setup. It’s a great gig!

    I short hauled chips as a part time job r.i to ct. Bout a 45min ride back n forth $75 a load cash. Did 3 loads a day twice a week

    The weight can be deceiving between the wet and dry chips. You right I always hated going over the weight getting it off ain’t no joke

    Yea they told me that when I first hauled chips, don’t turn your truck when you dumping your load

    I used to haul chips as o/o . We were able to haul 86k with permit in Louisiana at 15 dollar a ton. I feel your pain when having to dump some off,I usually open the gate and back up then hit my brakes to shed some weight.

    Getting your 90k permit would bring in an extra 3k a month 36k a year.

    I just got job offer on this in FL. I've been otr 4 yrs ish. I am needed at home and looking at jobs. I was worried about this one but you make it look good.

    Just started hauling chips out of Atlantic Canada. We are allowed 55,000 kg (~110k lbs) truck weighs about 20k so can load between 30-35k kgs. Only pays 3.99 a ton though so make about 200 a day after taxes with 2 runs, 12 hour days

      ​@@JakobeOG over on the west coast it's a crap job too. U never get paid to chain up in winter and you can't make over $23/hr. No one's making over $400 a day unless u get the gravy job hauling live floor sawdust or shavings that are super light and u can do 4 of those a day vs chips that u can only do 2 or 3 depending on the run. I make the same money working 4 on 4 off delivering diesel fuel to locomotives. I work less and get paid the same by the hr.

    The only wood gig that pays is live floor so u can unload yourself and leave never waiting at the mill.

    Hauling chips is cool... don't pay that much..never been to gold hill but I stay going to Hopewell VA, Franklin, VA and westpoint, va

      @@TheHelpfulTrucker at the time I was driving for a guy...$30 from Blackstone to Hopewell...$60 from Blackstone to Franklin and $65 from Blackstone to westpoint

      @@yawotton gotchoo... i get 125 per load from dillwyn va to west point (111 miles 1 way) and i can do 2 of those a day (truck gets 15 dollars per ton and I get a third of that) or I'll pick up from Cascade va and run that to west point (220 miles 1 way) 1 trip per day, truck gets 30 dollars per ton and again i get a third... 750 to the truck and 250 to me. I also run dillwyn to hopewell (pay is 11.50 per ton, gross to the truck is about 300) .All those gross amounts are based on a 25 ton load.

      Apply at Central Transport on you’re state, they hire new drivers straight out of school, and they mainly have local work!

      I was told otr 6 Mos to year experience then jobs open up. Stayed out to gain more doing reefer then dry van then tanker. I know I'll take a hit going local but my kids need me and it will be sweet being in my bed at night. Good luck to all us drivers.

      I would say it doesn't really matter... I have an 07 international 9400 (sleeper truck). I used to have a sterling daycab.

      Many mills will not allow you on the property with a drag rag anymore. All our trucks have electric roll tarps, sure beats the "good old days".

      no... i guess you would call it just a standard latch gate. i know those walking floors allow you to dump right on the ground though.

      If you did have a walking floor, do these places usually have a separate place to empty out so you can avoid the tipper line? And about the tarps, with that net tarp, if it rains you can’t work, correct? If you have a roll over vinyl tarp, can you work if it rains? Or do they just shut down receiving if it rains? I imagine if you get caught in a thunder shower it throws you way overweight if you have the net tarp. Thanks, good luck, and take care.

    How much does them loads pay at max load?

      not going over 80k lbs (25 tons), 375 dollars.
      if i get a 90k lbs permit, i can take 30 tons and that would pay 450 dollars.
      Pay is 15 dollars per ton.

      ​@@TheHelpfulTruckerhey I haul trash, I called to get an overweight permit and they said if the load can be broken apart then I can not use the permit for that... I could have gotten the wrong info or it could just be a Georgia thing! I am very interested in hauling chips!

    I don't understand how u are making any money. You only have two axles on the trailer and its not a super B. Any trailer up north is a quad with a cheater axle on the trailer and truck. You cant even load that truck to 45k with only 5 axles on the ground.

      talk to people... that's how I've found every job I've ever had as an owner. a relative actually got me on over here... you need to know people, it really helps.
