We liked this without kids. I think it depends on the group.

Fully agree with your thoughts. It's a great game to play with kids but not one I'd pull out for adult friends generally.
I've been having a great time playing it with my nephew and am looking forward to the new expansion!

Great review! What would You suggest as a next step after Karak and CoraQuest?

      Perhaps Zombicide...it's relatively accessible.

@@BoardGameCo or maybe Wander the cult of Barnacle bay?

@@BoardGameCo maybe its time to give Zombicide a try. Which is the simplest, Invader? Anyways wanted to thank You for the review on Machina arcana. Im a eurogamer at heart but this dungeon crawler was great fun!

My kids ask for this one regularly. I much prefer this one than Karak which I thought overstayed his welcome and had much less variety than Avel. But it feels quite samey now that we played quite a bit. I would be interested to know your opinion on the big box expansion coming.

An expansion could change things, for now I'd rather play Karak

We found it repetitive and boring (kids and adults were not engaged). We LOVED drawing our characters and our backpacks and equipment, but how is it fun to fight a monster then fight another and then rinse and repeat. No one was having fun doing that. But we also felt ZombieKidz was a repetitive snooze. Maybe we don’t like dungeon crawlers? Love the theme and characters etc though. Catacombs of Karak hit better with us maybe just because it felt punchy and was less of a production and less expected from it. Not sure. We sold that too, but after a year and not after a play like this one. Maybe it was the difference between co-op and competitive. Maybe competitive gives it some extra jazz and interest for us.

I found it’s a bit unbalanced at two. The end game is basically a write off, you need more players to counter all the incoming monsters. If you have one or two failed attacks, which is pretty easy with the limited dice mitigation, then it’s all over. Has good timing, my 5 year old can sit through it
