Even though I think that Sora looks a bit better generally speaking, I wouldn't say that the difference is as big as some (Anti-China) people are saying.

And guys, let's be honest: I have seen certain Sora videos that literally look as bad or even worse than some of the videos generated by Vidu here, while some of the most photorealistic videos look almost the same between the two models.
And keep in mind that we still haven't seen Vidu at the original 1080p quality.
Yes, Sora still looks better... But not "miles better."
And it would be naive to think that the small gap won't be closed very soon.
And the best part to me is that competition is always great because it means that we will have different options to choose and some affordable versions will eventually come.

If you pay attention, there's a reason its super short clips. Things like walk cycles are very messy in only a few short seconds.
These things will always kind of look good (and is a given), because they are trained on well made human creations, so it's all about the motion interpretation, and it just isn't very good. Sora still had weirdness, but it does have quite natural movement.

Only the shorter duration but it's practically the same level, I think making models like Sora is pretty basic like training a simple LLM, the only difference is the computing power and that's where OpenAI is ahead.

I don't mind the competition for OpenAI, but does it really matter if we don't have access to it? It's not open-source or even easily accessible as a close-source product. Sora doesn't have a waitlist and it doesn't look like OpenAI plans on releasing it publicly. Vidu does seem to have a waitlist, but you need to have a working Chinese phone with a Chinese phone number and also be a part of a Chinese company (since you have to input your company's name).
I've seen some open-source video generation levels that try to replicate this level of motion and consistency, but, obviously, they're not even close in quality.

Sharing a video will not reduce or impact its resolution. Re-compressing it would do that potentially or recapturing it from another creators video might... but simply sharing the file would not. I disagree that the overall animation is even close to what we have seen from SORA. The resolution and quality of motion seems considerably lower than SORA.... that is not to say VIDU is not impressive - it is amazing how close it is to SORA. But I feel the comparisons being made are actually not convincing at all.
Minor annoyance; you use "Do" unnecessarily in many sentences that form part of your your scripts. I realise it s a very petty criticism! But If you write the scripts then read them to make the final voiceover try checking for unnecessary "Do's"
Your output is prolific and more immediate than almost any other creator I subscribe too - great work!

I'm sure SORA doesn't default to chinese genrations without telling it to. Do you know what the prompts were in english to get things like log cabins, waves crashing over western boat designs galleons, mostly europeans, red wood forests, western fashions etc? I just want to know what the base model implies about their data acquisition as SORA's approach seems pretty basic whereby even the intermediate compute created pretty good results to the degree that just training 1 tenth of what sora did would probably achieve close to these results according to their scaling examples.

China has certain disadvantages in building something like a competitor to Sora. First and foremost: a company like Nvidia isn't legally allowed to sell very high end GPUs like the H200 into China. So China is very compute-starved right now (yes, there is smuggling and some domestic GPU production but that does not compare to the training compute OpenAI with Microsoft's help can bring to bear). That said, intellectual property laws (or their lack of enforcement in China) could allow Chinese companies to scrape or buy entire catalogs of Shutterstock videos (for example) that OpenAI needs to negotiate an expensive license for. I would say the most important thing this video demonstrates is the Chinese already know a lot about how Sora works, and in the long run will be able to field strong competitors to that technology. That said, a company like OpenAI will use their superior training capabilities to try to stay far ahead.
