I enjoyed this Maté Talk, like always, but for sure the 'what are they wearing in Dune'.
You had some great picks, but there is one important detail that I think you missed,
because it is I believe only mentioned in the books.
The spice that is so present in the desert of Arrakis is *Melagne* , and that spice smells like *Cinnamon* .
This is what I can find online on it:
_"The spice had glowed radiant blue in the dim silver light. And the smell-bitter cinnamon, unmistakable."_
_Herbert writes repeatedly, starting in Dune (1965), that melange smells like cinnamon._
_In Dune, Lady Jessica notes that her first taste of spice "tasted like cinnamon"._
_Dr. Yueh adds that the flavor is "never twice the same ... It's like life-it presents a different face each time you take it._
_Some hold that the spice produces a learned-flavor reaction._
_The body, learning a thing is good for it, interprets the flavor as pleasurable-slightly euphoric. And, like life, never to be truly synthesized."_
So based on this what would you imagine them (like Paul in the desert) smelling like?

I never read the books so didn't know about the reference to cinnamon but this would be perfect for X
I purposely went counter intuitive. Being that it was called 'spice' I steered away from any type of spice and was hunting a dry floral....I sprayed 3 different fragrance's and when I sprayed Rose Incense Arrakis came to life in my brain 🤯🤩

I have ordered some Tauer samples, I smelled 2 so far and seems like a great brand, with great pricing.

Great idea for a video! As a perfume junkie and a huge Dune fan (having read all the Frank Herbert books ONLY) (his son’s books I do not consider to be canon). I’ve seen Dune 2 four times now lol. Fantastic movie! It’s a must-see on IMAX 🙂

I love it! Great layout for Dune. And I was actually going to ask you about Tauer, so happy you're finally mentioning this brand, I've smelled it so many times and it's definitely on my list!
I also love the idea of finding a fragrance based on a character! (especially one that I love so much! BTW, I've read the book, and you're right: The Baron has a depraved side, but only because the author was not exactly tolerant towards some minorities and depicted them, through the Baron Arkonnen, as "deviant"... Another fun fact to brighten the mood of your next social event!) Gotta smell thoses Amouage now...
So I was right...The Baron is (ADIDAS)😉 so Sadonaso is the perfect fragrance for him!
And you're banned from using the word 'Amouage'...it only gets you into trouble 🙄

We’re also in Lent, and most Christians seem to forget you’re supposed to fast, likewise sunrise to sunset. Try Maamoul, or Italian zeppole
Yes! We seem to celebrate Christmas in a big way, but Easter gets lost with chocolate eggs!
I'm going to hunt down both Maamoul, or Italian zeppole (although this one is going to be hard! I've had in the past but not sure anyone here in Melbourne is going to make as good as the ones I had in Rome🙄)

Marcelo, my man! 👊🏻 Great video as always!!! I don’t normally watch 40+ minute videos, but when I do, it’s maté talk (currently drinking a Celsius).
This lineup of fragrances sounds fantastic! Tauer’s LDDM is incredible! One of the most transportive fragrances I’ve ever experienced. It really conjures the feeling of the arid desert air (or at least how I envision it lol). Definitely going to have to sample some of these later. It’s heading into Spring here in the US, so I’ve been sampling some fresher fragrances. Currently exploring a sample set from Precious Liquid. Enjoying Acqua Oud today. Side note, Richard Herpin was kind enough to throw in the full lineup of “feminine” fragrances with my order of the masculine line.
Also, finally sampled Renaissance and 40 Knots. LOVE both! Ordered a bottle of 40 Knots after testing yesterday (my first full bottle of Xerjoff 😎). I’ll definitely be adding Renaissance to the collection soon as well! Alexandria II and Torino 22 are also on the to-buy list!
P.S. I just noticed the Goku Black figure in the background! Love it!! 👊🏻

@@semvansambeek everything I’ve tried from Xerjoff is a least good, if not great! Wonderful house that deserves the hype it receives! I also need to buy a bottle of Tony Iommi, but that can wait for the cooler weather!
Definitely check out Tauer! I’ve only tried LDDM. I know a lot of people are nervous when they hear cumin as a note, but I didn’t find the cumin to resemble B.O. in LDDM. It’s got me wanting to explore more of what the house has to offer! But there’s a list a mile long of things I want to try hahaha. Be sure to come back and let us know what you think once you do!

I just got Tony Iommi actually, can still wear it in the evenings, it is glorious!
Cumin is a spice I don't like so I'm glad it's not that strong in the LDDM fragrance, I didn't really look at the notes yet.
Doing it the Marcelo style, seeing how it makes me feel and then try to guess some myself.
I also got a list that's way to long to ever finish with constantly new houses coming up.

Sorry that I gave away some story points on the movie😬 But don't let this stop you in enjoying this masterpiece. I've now watched Pt 1 five times and I get more from the movie each time. Very clever with the visuals, sound editing, dialogue and the mood that it captures....one of the best movies to come out in a very long time💫🧡
BTW, I'm contemplating being in Portugal in March next year....still in planning mode but I have the blessing of my 'Financier' so already that's 99.9% a done deal😎 I welcome any recommendations from you Rodrigo as to where to go. Hola Marcelito! in my mind Arrakis could smell like Hypnotizing Fire from The harmonist, it has the rose but also the red pimiento pepper that gives that dry fiery connotation.
I love this idea!!! I got a whole bunch of samples when I bought my Golden Woods (the last time I was in the US), so going to see if I have this one and test!

Marcelo. What a great lineup and a cool idea identifying fragrance for each of the main characters in Dune. I say you were spot on with all of them, however I saw the good baron as an Orto Parisi Terroni fan! But who am I to judge as I own a bottle thanks to you! Those oysters look amazing and made me wish I was there just for those alone. And Royal Oud, you're speaking my language here as I wear this quite a bit during the cooler months. Oh yes, you did a review on Santal Austral a while back. Just shortlisted what sounds like a wonderful sandalwood confection. Wishing you continued success here!

As a big cinephile I like the connections and the thought put into what you think certain people and things would smell like. I guess it's an interesting exercise. I was thinking a perfume equivalent to Arakis could be Timbuktu by L'Artisan Parfumeur. Still a little sweet by the cardamom and such but overall grounded and earthy and dry. I love Rose Incense but mainly think about it as incensy rose syrup 😂 that I connotate with winter but I love the different interpretations and reasonings we can all come to.

There's an oyster bar that I love in Paris, BUT the oysters here were so good and soooooo cheap compared to Paris that I'm constantly kicking myself for not exploring more of these!!!! Marcelo, try Kunafeh, which is vermicelli over cheese or cream. Orange in colored. Topped off with syrup. it's so nice! Also try ma'mool close to eid. It's a cookie or pastery thing stuffed with dates or walnuts or my favourite pistachios! If you need recommendations where to find them let me know 😊. And enjoy!

L'Air Du Desert Marocain is a fine call! Probably too much for the cinema sadly. I wore Reve Ottoman (leathery, spicy, dry saffron, and dusty sandalwood with some initially quite strong but later shy rose) to go see part 2 🙂. Dune's a favourite: Love the book, and the '80s Lynch flick as well.
I haven't had the chance to experience Reve Ottoman....will need to explore this one Ed.

@TheNicheFragranceCollector Rose Incense makes sense. There's something of a sense of expansive and sparce physical space to it if that makes any sense. I recently made up my mind on that one (took me a while, because at first the aforementioned space seemed hollow and abandoned), and am going to be adding a bottle of that for the upcoming cold months!
You make me want to buy Meander which has long been in my for test list in fragrantica :)

I would recommend you test on skin and see how it performs for you. For me it's the perfect all year long fragrance (not high heat though)

@@TheNicheFragranceCollector Luca Turin said in one of his books that it was one of the best he ever tried, so I blind bought it a while ago. I am looking to get the Au Coeur du Desert which is the perfume version sometime later this year. Tauer has a unique story and as you know, I am a sucker for good stories 😁🧐
I love your channel😊. Can I ask you if the rose note in Rose Incense is similar to the note in Lyric Man minus the citrus notes?
Awesome to hear from you and thanks for reaching out @naf4361 I don't own Lyric Man (...yet 😬) so I can't compare the two.
However Rose Incense has no citrus note that I can detect. This is a very deep, powdery, rose, woody, incense fragrance. It's not 'heavy' but it definitely has no lightness to it either. Think of it as a cashmere blanket; no weight, but deeply warm.

Awesome question! They are so different! Royal Oud has incredible evolution; opens with these wonderful herbal, aromatic green notes; hints of wood coming through. Then evolves to a deep forest of cedar, with touches of earthy green. Remains strong woods, powerful, regal.
From my testing of Un Bois (which incidentally I'm going to pull the trigger on this) it's a clean wood fragrance. Not complicated, straightforward, with all notes working to elaborate on the theme of 'wood'. You can detect the peppery woody opening but it's never 'black pepper'. The mission of Obvious is to celebrate 'the note' and in this case it's a wonderful 'woods' fragrance....hope that helps @yokk5369

@haromatik boom baby! My word of advice is that you put 1 teaspoon of sugar in the first serve of the Maté
It’s very bitter, but that’s also part of the joy that you will begin to appreciate. The 1 teaspoon of sugar will take the edge off. I don’t recommend you put any more sugar (so that 1st teaspoon) so that you can become a custom to the proper taste of the yerba maté .

I kind of agree about fragrances being more suited for different age groups. Half of me agrees but half of me feels like that argument holds as much water as the masculine or feminine argument.
That being said I do think it's helpful when talking about perfumes to use this language because although anyone can wear anything there are commonly understood terminology to help people on the other side of the screen get an idea. I like using words like "has a traditionally feminine or masculine appeal" or "this has a more classic and older man smell". Because despite there being no rules to this there are patterns that we've all come to understand... we know generally what older men smell like vs younger men so I'm not totally disagreeing with you here Marcelo, but just acknowledging the nuance.
Personally, I don't smell Royal Oud and think it screams 35+. To me at least it feels like a very accessible perfume (as many creeds are). I guess it's all relative. I'm comparing it to more classical chypres or fougeres from the 80s or retro-inrpsired houses like Rogue or MDCI... that for me leans more 35+ than this Creed. Just wanted to give my two cents though.
Tangent: If you haven't smelled Invasion Barbare by MDCI or L'Homme by Rogue those are probably the most interesting perfumes that smell like older gentlemen that I've smelled as a 25 yr old. Maybe that and Chypre Palatin by MDCI.

I may be biased with Royal Oud and my 'age' allocation. I have 2 nephews who are under mid 20's and I showed them Royal Oud. And whilst they liked it, they both felt that it was a fragrance that 'wouldn't suit them', "it smells mature" was their comment. Since then, it's been planted in my brain.
It would be awesome if a person in their mid 20's who is rocking Royal Oud to jump into the conversation! Would love their spin on the subject!
