Elements of Art: Line - Art Lesson for Beginners, Elementary & Middle School Art

In this video, we dive into the power and significance of the element of art called line. The element of line can be explored using various techniques and styles. Today, we look at how line can be used to evoke emotions, capture the viewer's attention, direct the viewer's eye through a composition, simulate texture and to give a sense of motion to art.
From bold strokes to delicate, intricate details, we examine how line has been utilized over time and across different art movements to create stunning works of art. Lines can be vertical, horizontal, thick, thin, broken, straight and/or curved. The versatility of line makes it important tool to use in the art we create.
While there are seven elements of art, I believe line is the most important one. Line is a basic building block of any painting, drawing or photograph. Using only line, we can create a complete work of art.
This video is great for anyone wanting to learn more about the fundamentals of visual art. It is appropriate for elementary art students, middle school and high school students....and any interested adult! :) This is meant to be a quick introduction to line as an element of art.
