I love the StablO . I placed a leftover adhesive backed metal plate from my magnetic phone mount kit onto the bottom of my plastic Cotman 14 set travel palette and my Lukas travel palette 12 set so they would attach to the magnetic area of the StablO. I also ordered the extra cup and cup holder. I actually just use a traditional two cup artist cup with lids and clip it onto the StablO and use one cup holder with cup to hold my brushes/ pen/pencils, eraser, mister, etc. The traditional two cup artist cup are smaller and leakproof making them more convenient if I can’t empty the water where I am painting. I also wear a white athletic wristband on my left wrist to wipe my brushes on while painting en plein air. Maybe you could clip your wooden palette to the brush holder.Happy to see a new review for the StablO. Not many as of yet.

Works better if one of the cups is used for brushes. I use a standard dual cup stainless steel clip on cups for my water. They have leakproof lids which enables the water to be emptied later. The elastic on the sides is good to slip a cloth through to wipe brushes on. It is a system designed to hold and paint. If one was going to sit it on a table the StablO would not be needed. The art supplies could just be placed on the table.

I really wish you had *actually looked at the instructions before or watched a video on how it's supposed to be used correctly!*
I don't think I've ever commented negatively on a art supply vid, bc I really value content creators in this niche. So this is a first.
But what you uploaded is actively hurting a small supply creator: just look at all the negative comments in responses to your handling! You responding to some of them with more positive experiences you had later or how you did it wrong on the vid is nice, but at that point the damage is long done.
It'd be one thing if the product itself was just ill-designed or low quality. But this isn't on the Stablo - it's mostly on you.

    • @Chrisvold

I have no idea why you feel like this video is a negative one. Is it because I didn’t figure out everything the first time I used it? Is it because I made a video of my own first impression and experience, and didn’t make a commercial for the product (I am not sponsored or hired by the company to do so)? Is it because I tried out things that it isn’t made for, to see if it worked? Please let me know what the instructions say that I didn’t seem to understand. What did I do wrong and how am I supposed to use it “correctly”?

@@Chrisvold Have you not read the comments here? There are literally dozens of people going "horrible product, thanks for showing" or "I definitely won't be buying that!" - many of which *you* yourself then answered and often countered!
Are you really trying to pull "sorry, did you want a COMMERCIAL?" on an independent review video?! 🤦🏼 Obviously I did not.
Again, I'm normally a big fan of those kind of reviews. Even if the user experience might be very different from mine or comes to other conclusions.
Yours is the only one I've encountered that is made without the CZcamsr actually trying to handle the art supply correctly, leaving many viewers with the impression your bumbling set-up and narration is you using the Stablo as intended and running into problems from start to finish. And you mentioned the instructions you didn't look at yourself, halfway through. There's also video on how to set up and use it.
Your review is the equivalent of someone ordering alcohol markers and then whining that they bleed through when being used on ordinary copy paper instead of marker paper: someone not informing themselves about what they're buying - and then blaming the product for using it incorrectly.
Obviously my objection is because you didn't even try to find out how to set it up before reviewing. I wrote that in bold as my very 1st sentence in the comment. So, yeah: I clearly meant that.

Do you really believe I don’t like it after spending hours making a video about it!? Yes, it needs some tweaking to work for me, but what is the crime in showing that, and sharing my thoughts on how to work around it? In what way isn’t that helpful for other buyers? @@stablo9483 It's been a while since I wrote that! I scanned the video again quickly and had a few things I might have had in mind:
      • Doesn't work with sketch books that have pockets.
      • Doesn't work with sketchbooks with thicker covers or with slip-on cases.
      • Limited options in brush holder if your brushes are the same diameter. It is likely only 1 or 2 of 9 holes will work.
      • Can only work with small palettes if using water cups. A common elongated version of the palette in this video could not open without its lid/mixing area hitting the cups. The palette in this video could not be turned 90 degrees - which might help you visualize the issue.
      • Brush holder can only accommodate tapered brushes. It can't hold drawing implements, and there is no good place to lay them in the limited palette area.
      • The cups/brush holder locations in the back block using that area for clipping palettes, reference materials, etc.
      • Cups are not held in place and may get knocked/tipped if hit from the underside or not set down very carefully.
      Best wishes.

      @stablo9483 Před 4 měsíci +2

Thanks a lot @@DavZell for taking time to answer, this long after your original post, and for such an extensive answer.
I totally understand your thoughts, and I have some answers, I'm also currently creating a dedicated section on StablO's website where I'm adding tips and tricks about some ways to use specific gear with the easel.
      - About the sketchbook cover thickness, the easel was originally designed to hold sketchbook cover "inside" the easel, in the dedicated slot between the two main parts of the easel, fitting most classic sketchbooks.
But there are a lot of different sketchbook brands with a lot of references/covers materials/thickness...
But there's a way to use them too, you just need to put the cover under the easel and not inside, this way cover's thickness do not matter.
I'm aware this isn't something that comes in mind the first time you see or use the easel (hence the tips and tricks section, and the post about thick cover sketchbook at stablo.fr/en/sketchbooks-with-very-thick-covers).
      - About the brush holder, the idea of the multiple sized holes is that brushes of all sizes will fit, but indeed every artist has different tastes and habits with brushes, some use thin brushes only, others thick only... So holes of various sizes was a necessity. I also was totally aware that there were a problem with brushes that have straight handle (instead of conical handle like the vast majority of brushes). The two holes on the easel (top left and right) are there to help with this situation.
So, I recently (in September) released a new accessory, which is a new kind of brush holder. Holes are all the same size, and an elastic band travels through it, making thin and thick handle brushes fit with all the holes, even travel brush that have straight shape!
This new brush/thing holder is also magnetic so that it cas act like an extension for the watercolor palette, or a place where you can put a jam jar lid for exemple and act like a mixing area (or anything one can think of).
      - About palette size, I can tell that pretty big 24 half pans (or 12 full pans) palettes are very well maintained even if half of it are "flying" outside of the easel, as magnets are very strong (there are some pictures on StablO's Instagram page, I cannot post pictures here unfortunately).
The original idea of the easel being to stay thin, compact and light, increasing the size of the easel in order to accommodate big "travel" palettes would have been a compromise to do, and magnets are strong enough to still be able to maintain bigger palettes.
      - About the water cup that can be knocked, again I understand, there are some water cups references that are semi-closed so that the water won't go away of something like this happen.
All this is not to prove that this easel is the perfect solution for everyone, because it's not.
Clearly, I make it for artists that are using a certain type of "gear", that are already travelling "light and small", and that may need a tool that gather everything they're using, with a stable, light and discreet tool.
Since I started making it almost 5 years ago, I'm very often amazed by how many artists use their easel in very different ways that I imagined it, because it's a "basis" they can use and adapt to their own way to draw/paint (which I'm pretty proud of).
They make it "their" easel, their tool, and it gives me a lot of ideas!
Thanks again for your answer, have a nice evening!
      Guillaume

Seems like far too many compromises on which supplies to take with you to accommodate this set up to make it only somewhat work for you. I feel like we should find what works for us in supplies and THEN figure out a set up to accommodate all of that around it, not the other way around. Seems like this is more for those who are more minimalist than what you even have here for supplies to make it work. I find it super annoying to have predrilled holes for brushes but they never seem to fit what you’re given and this is a perfect example of that. There must be a better way around all of that like possibly more of an adjustable brush holder. You shouldn’t have to compromise the extra water cup you purchased for clean water as a brush holder when it came with a brush holder because it just didn’t work for you. I can see how some of this would be helpful, but it seems like more of a pain than anything. I personally already have a hard time breaking in my sketchbooks for fear of ‘messing them up’, I definitely wouldn’t be able to rip out a back pocket especially if I purchased it for having that option to use, but Ben if it wasn’t used for that reason. That might just be my OCD thing, but I know a lot of artists have a hard time breaking in their books as well, so that’s not just me. I kinda laughter a little bit when you ripped out the pocket and then tried a different book to go in there because it still didn’t work the way you wanted it to which is kinda why I hate doing things like that to just see if it works when sometimes it doesn’t and then you just ruined a good book figuring that out.

😂 it is a REAL life review, for sure! I totally agree with you on the brush holder. I will drill the holes bigger to fit my brushes, so that I can still use it. 👍 we have to find our own way to use equipment like this. It is really versatile, and I really like that. 👍

Hello, I'm Guillaume, the maker! I agree, the easel must fit the gear you already use and your habits, it's not made to do everything for everyone, even if you can do a lot, not just using sketchbooks with it 🙂
It cannot suit every artist needs.
About the minimalist aspect, indeed, the easel was originally thought for artists going out with few brushes, a sketchbook and a watercolor palette!
I also made an new accessory last September, where holes for the brush holder are all the same size and there is an elastic band inside to keep thin or thick brushes (head up or down), and it's magnetic so you also can use it like an extension for a watercolor palette or a mixing area using a jam jar lid.
      Have a nice day!
      Guillaume
