- 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti Nero Edizione review by The Straight Pipes. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti is pumping out 280hp 306lb ft tq from a 2L Turbo 4 cylinder. At $70,535 CAD, would you take it over a Porsche Macan, BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, Audi Q5?

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too 😊
You guys could not do justice on this one. You attempted comparing Ti model with nearly double priced QV model and complaining things. And then, comparing the Ti with a GLC43 that's nearly as priced as the QV version (in practical pricing). I always thought you guys do a fair comparison. Compare this with base 4 cylinder versions of all competitors - Audi, BMW, Porsche you name it. It's hard to beat. And then compare the AMG or similary priced one with the QV version, it's hard to beat there too.
Exxxxactly my thoughts! I didn’t want to write another similar comment. BIG like goes to you Mr SF Tech!
I agree, they should compare it with the audi Q5 or the Bmw x3 or even the cadillac xt4 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Ya Jakob and yuri you jerks! Lol
It’s Italian junk
@@loopbayou're junk, sadly not Italian I imagine. Because Italian junk looks good. You on the other hand...
Alfa's are sharp. The Stelvio looks really nice inside and out.
I think the interior is a copy of the bmw x3
@@Mlippy well, i sat in both back to back and while they dont look similar, quality wise they are close, as x3 still has the previous generation BMW interior. The infotainment in the x3 is miles better though, Alfa’s is painfully slow. It drives and looks better though.

Until you touch something on the inside
Looks great sitting on the shoulder waiting for CAA!
Fun fact: in Italy this model is called Stelvio Veloce, which means “fast”, and our base model is a 150 hp rwd 2.2 turbo diesel
a diesel alfa sounds awesome

Honest to God, the complaints this model was not the Quadrifoglio were kinda high on the ridiculous meter.
well... as everybody who buys a non-top trim this matter always comes up every once in a while "I wish I got the better trim"
@@effa114 correct, almost double here in AU
@@dallatorretdu This Stelvio is already one of the best dynamic options for an SUV. ...so the chances that you wish you got a better trim would be even higher with any of its competitors.
Under 6s 0-60mph and it's normal fast? ...come on! ...that's faster than the main competitors X3, GLC, Q5, Volvo XC60, F-Pace, etc.
Absolutely. The Quadrifoglio is a racecar, while the veloce ti is a normal car who can go pretty fast. Totally different target group between the quadrifoglio and the veloce ti
@@dallatorretduthis isnt a matter of trim. The quadrifoglio is double the price at the very least, in many markets it's 2.5 times the price of a Veloce. And they're admitting the Veloce is plenty fast. Their issue is the lack of V6 sound. Their comments are made completely oblivious of what regular people pay for their cars. I bet they couldn't afford a Quadrifoglio themselves but they get to test so many sportcars that they forgot what it's like to actually having to decide and buy one of these. A rather critical skill for a car reviewer!!
guys...just review it for what it is. we get it, you've been in faster versions of everything.
“It’s like good normal car fast” yeah, when you review hellcat powered cars 80% of the time.... a normal car is a Corolla and that is not a 5 second car 0-60 like this. This is way quicker than normal cars.
Hellcats? They aren’t even fast
@@Hunterdietzman ok bud
@@anonemoose6121 sorry, just compared to my model 3, they aren’t that quick.. and the people who drive them are assholes, they’re super common (so are model 3’s, I get that, not so much the performance but even so). Maybe I’m just mad because one cut me off the other day and literally gave my car a heart attack...
My buddy had a hellcat, the charger variant, and he let me drive it. I honestly wasn’t all that impressed with the interior, I think the design is ugly and wayyy too common, it was pretty fun when I put my foot down with traction off. I felt like an asshole driving it, and unlike my Tesla, even when you turn everything off and try to enjoy the drive, you CANT, it is ALWAYS wanting to be pushed, and if you’re NOT an asshole, then you want to be able to just chill out every once in awhile. Had the opportunity to test drive a Stelvio 280hp in the Dolomites back in 2019. If handling is what you care about BUY THIS CAR. You can still paddle shift as it is just fun do to that and the steering is just telepathyc. You think about cornering and the car is already doing so. There aren't words to describe that. 0-100km/h in 5.5sec is very respectable honestly
If you care about handling you don't get a crossover...
I wish we could tell that to the car market and demand around the world but we can't
@@KB-vu5xs you do if you want more trunk space and ground clearance than a giulia
If handling is what you care in a small suv, then test drive both the Stelvio and the Jag F-Pace. Only then can you decide which is better.
@@KB-vu5xs you dont have one. It is amazing, took an exit ramp at 70

These are amazing vehicles. My wife has the Stelvio and I’ve got the Giulia and we love them. Granted we’d prefer both in the Quadrifoglio trim but were happy with the performance. Both vehicles never fail to turn heads. No complaints here!!
The moment you start rating a car on its lacks you lose me (it lacks this, it lacks that, the other one has this or that). The fact that you have driven the more expensive one starts to show and you make potential buyers a tad disappointed if they can only afford the "lesser" one.. and unless companies are "suggesting" you to sell the higher trims to the viewer... I don't see the point. Judge the car on its own merits. We know you have grown a lot and we enjoy it.. but be fair.
We are comparing it to competitors
you did a good job of formulating what i was thinking during this video. i agree. they sell 1 QF for every what maybe 200 normals? probably higher. almost every person who buys this car is getting this one, not the QF.

Your review and Doug's on the stelvio quadrifoglio is the main reason I bought mine in February. Its been a amazing vehicle to own.
Sounds like Yuri is still stuck on the Quadrifoglio. Get over her man.
You can't blame him though. He's fell in love with the Charlize Theron of cars. He ain't getting over that.
If you started a drinking game for every time Yuri mentioned Quadrifoglio, you would have alcohol poisoning by the end of the video.
Exactly it is annoying. I mean next time they try a 330i they will say it’s less good than a M3 ?!?
Watching your reviews lately has become more like watching a video seeing two people having fun on a loaned car rather than an honest review on what the car offers. I don't connect with the comparison with quadrafolio all over the video. There is a difference of 40k approx. and they both are not comparable and caters to different consumer sections. Overall not your best!

I have the 2019 MY in this spec but with black seats. Most fun car I’ve ever had and I’ve had multiple mercedes E classes.
Alfas are not perfect, they might not have the latest tech, the finest materials and build quality...but they have a soul in contrast to most german cars. Love it.
The Germans Just have a Better infotaiment but materials are super fine and build quality also
I own one
At least it has soul...
Since the my2020 and 2021 versions, build quality and materials are up there with the Germans if not better in some cases.
And they do have the latest tech in some details, not in the infotainment, I agree. But Chassis is state of the art, suspension is extremely good and efficient, aluminum engine with the best performance for its size, carbon drive shaft, etc. It just depends where we look for the tech.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL exterior design. Alfa’s killing it!
Thanks for reviewing this- love the Stelvio’s!
Comparing this car with the quadrifoglio all of the time is not fair. It has the half of the power and 2/3th of the price.
This car is absolutely amazing. Not fast? Come on, 5,5 seconds to 100km/ph with a 4 cylinder SUV! I was absolutely surprised during test driving. Amazing car! Best seats of almost every cars, amazing steering and overall good package. When my C Class Benz is sold, I will purchase the 280hp Stelvio :)
It really fits all my needs. It's big enough for a family, it's fast enough, it's amazing looking and it has plenty of stuff.

I just can't wait for the off road test video of the 2021 RAM 1500 trx. It would be a mind blowing video!!!
Why compare this car to the GLC 43? You should be comparing it to the GLC 300
Because it’s a Mercedes so Lardy and bound to understeer, the 300 would be totally outclassed
Because this particular Stelvio is priced at $70,000 and the Base AMG GLC 43 starts at $65,000, this places it squarely in the sights of the bigger boys.
So, yet another wheezy inline 4-cylinder turbo/Buick Encore styling/Alfa reliability vs V-6 Bi turbo with 385 HP?
I'm with Yuri and Jakub on this one.
The stelvio they tested is a 4-cylinder and bases for less than the GLC 300. The 43 has a 6 cylinder and has a starting price $20,000 higher than a 4-cylinder stelvio. They're just not comprable
@@litespeed65 you got your numbers wrong
@@litespeed65 I'm not. The base price for the Stelvio TI in Canada is $59k. If we start loading extras to take it to 70k, like the carbon fiber package in this tested model, perhaps we should try the same exercise on the GLC.
Alfa (lack of) reliability is myth just like German reliability is.
As reliability is concerned, my money goes for the Alfa, nor the Merc. ...but's that's me and I put my money where my mouth is. I'm actually doing it for more than 30 years.
For actual car reliability, people should try to look more into proper statistics, like the ones from rental car and leasing companies and their fleet availability statistics.
Just bought one of these. Love the handing. I have watched most of the reviews on these and you guys rock it.
Can’t wait to see their brand new interior
Is there news for a new interior ? Cant find it

I have a Sport Ti n I love it! Got a cone filter on it and it sounds like my 500 Abarth with an intake, it is really fun to drive!
What air filter do you have? I have a TI sport 19 and can’t find very many aftermarket intakes
Why would you install a cone filter? This just sucks warm engine air which is not productive for the turbo. The original design take cool air from the front.
@@jdswdew Do not get a cone. Just replace the stock one with a K&N. This will keep the cool air coming from the front and not suck in ambient warmer engine air.

Just speaking with the wife yesterday that we should have picked one of these up. It felt special, something most other SUVs lack. Best steering by far, too.
So how did you like it?
I once drove an Alfa Romeo hatchback for a couple of weeks on holiday in Italy. Loved it. For Alfa Romeo to really get some attention and buzz in North America, they should release a hot hatch here that blows the competition out of the water.

Yuri's frustration is so cute 😂
For us "normal people" of Italy this is still fast. This engine is in the "Veloce" version that means "Fast" 😅.
The vast majority of cars, even in this luxury suv segment are sold with less than 250 hp, because of taxes and fuel cost.
Still nice car and great video quality 😉
Happy Holidays!
Don't forget the weight. Talking about power is useless when not regarding the weight. The Stelvio is amazingly light for its segment. Combined with the 280hp it's just a very fast car.

I love it when Jacob stops being a pushover and is like "I HAVE NO ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION" 😂😂. That sends me.
I have a Giulia Ti Q4 and agree with most of everything they say here. Car is amazing. Transmission is fantastic and steering is the best out there. The manual 1-2 shift is easy once you get used to it. Shift at like 5k in 1st and you'll get it every time. 1st is just a really short gear and it revs very quickly. Launching in auto is fastest and with an easy to install piggyback car does 0-60 in less than 4.5 seconds and 1/4 in under 13.
What?! 0-100 4.5? Cmon mate. How’d you get that number?

Keep up the great work
People giving you guys a lot of heat for conparing this to the QV, i feel like they're mostly exaggerating...but i do agree with some other comments on here that, while tue video title made me really excited, the video itself felt a lot less positive
Maybe it's just the editing, or maybe you guys just took for granted that we'd think that most of this car is just amazing, but it did feel like you didn't highlight the many positives as much compared to the few quirks/negatives
I think it stems mostly from the QV comparisons, where imo direct competitor comparisons would've probably been more positive and given us a better view of how well this car does against its rivals.
The verdict in the end could've still been "Work harder and get the QV", but it would've been more because that thing is just so amazing, not because this Ti is a letdown (at least again compared to direct rivals), which i thiiiink is more of what you guys were trying to say
Still loved the vid tho, hope you have a great new year, keep them vids coming ^^
Isn’t the shifting and sound kinda a total let down? -yuri
@@TheStraightPipes oh wow, didn't think i'd get a reply to this, but awesome to see you guys reading the comments so throughly ^^
i wouldn't say it's a total letdown personally, considering it's just as good as the competition even in those points
Obviously it's a letdown compared to the QV, and if you want to say it's just so much better there that everyone should just save up more for that then that's reasonable too
I just think it'd be better to compare it to the actual competition during the review portion, and then in the verdict say "it's good/great/decent/whatever, but the QV is so insane you should just buy that"
Looking forward to what you guys got in store next for us ^^
My country has way more expensive registration over 2.0 litres so 4cylinder is a more realistic option. We're talkin like 300 euros for a 2.0 and for that 2.9 quadrofoglio its like 1400, yearly. I wonder how well these will hold up over the years. I know you can’t tell from a few days with the car.
That turbo 4 likely won't see 100k and they are poorly built inside and out. They squeak and rattle from the factory, even though this review didn't show it.
@@KB-vu5xs obviously no first-hand experience with one.
BS. They have their issues but I own a Stelvio and a Giulia with 40k miles between the two of them, and 3 cross-country drives. Neither had had but a hiccup. I’m sure little things may come up here and there, and I’m not ignorant to the fact others have not been so lucky, but these broad generalizations are simply untrue.
@@spencer1638 You just "bragged" that cars with 20k miles didn't have issues, that just goes to show that not even you expect good long term reliability from them. Cars with that low mileage obviously shouldn't have issues. Get back to me when they have 200k, if they make it that far. Also, driving across country isn't really making a case for your point since highway mileage is less wear and tear.
@@KB-vu5xs I don't need to test drive because I own a brand new 2020 facelift stelvio. Car before was a 159 which i had for 8 years and did 130k miles. 159 build quality and reliability was great. Perceived build quality of the Stelvio isn't as good as Germans but for equivalent spec it's much cheaper and outperforms in chassis and engine departments. Ignore list prices. E.g. Stelvio can be had with 20% discount and 2.9 % finance! No discount on a macan and finance is 6.9% that changes things a lot which reviews never touch on.
Looks great in all black. I love seeing Alfas around. I always get the feeling that the owners know something that the others don’t.
Owners are not only happy with the Italian design and style, owners are also willing to pay more and or, get less resale value. ...and are also ok without the "German success stamp" in the front grille of their car.
It's quite easy to find out why. Make a test drive and feel the machine.
I've even witness a typical mum or wannabe mum, developing a more driver's mindset after acquiring a Stelvio.
It's not just a great SUV, it's a superb handling car in the current market where almost no manufacturer could care less about weigh transfer and dynamic behavior. These vehicles are a blast to drive either fast or slow.
I had the Giulia Ti in AWD (Q4) and it was a nice car in terms of styling w/ Rosso Competizione paint. The problem was that I was always wanting more power the the Quadrifoglio is a big jump in price. Ended-up grabbing a BMW M2C, but the Alfa handles very well - no denying.

I think it’s a great suv at the price and would probably take it over the others mentioned. Tech isn’t as good but it’s a great driving suv.
It depends where you look at when looking for tech. If it's the infotainment, than you're absolutely right.
The Stelvio TI base price in Canada starts at $59k. If you load it with extras and carbon fiber like the model tested here, don't be surprised about the price tag.
