    I am grateful for the different ideas to stop the water leaking into the boot of my C1. However after trying all the various methods e.g. taking off the rear light clusters and sealing the holes where the wire goes through and also the rear centre stop lamp. The water still poured in. I eventually took off the seal around the back boot opening and cleaned it out, it was full of mould where the seal went over the metal edge. Having cleaned it thoroughly I replaced it and the water still poured in.
    I took the seal off again and put a bead of clear silicone all the way inside the seal where it clips onto the car body. I placed it back and it is now completely sealed - no more water .
    What I believe was happening was that the water got under the seal and found its way between the two pieces of metal which is where the seal covered it then ran into the boot from various folds and openings below the boot ledge.
    If you've tried everything else then try this and let me know if it works.

      Hi Graham, I used to engineer door seals for Rover and you are quite correct. Water can track over the flange via the carrier. Wind and road noise too. All Rover's (and JLR's these days) seals have a bead of 'mastic' within the carrier to seal it to the flange - in much the same way you've done with silicon. I'd suggest you do the same with your door seals. I've just done this with my Saab's boot seal as part of my crash repair. Good job

    Thank You so much for this video. I have a C1. I love the car except the leaking boot! Every time it rains the boot mat is soaking wet and then it takes days to dry out. My Husband used sealant on the rear high level brake light as shown in your video. We had really heavy rain last night and the boot was completely dry this morning!! The windscreen would have frost on the inside when frosty due to amount of moisture inside the car. So pleased this has finally been sorted, thank you.

      Hi Julie, the high level brake light is especially common as the gasket breaks down, so I'd suggest doing that anyway. Water getting in here also damages the bulb holder contacts and can render it useless.

    Great video.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah, it's not the best foam in the world. The only problem with using silicon is that you might have to destroy the new foam next time you need to change a bulb. I'm currently looking for suitable LED bulbs to do a complete cluster conversion, then it [probably] won't matter if it's fully sealed.

    • @SuperMozzman
      @SuperMozzman Před 3 lety +1

      @@CycloneCyd I only used silicone around the base where the new seal adheres to the bodywork, just to help keep it in place and add another layer of waterproofing - the top just squishes against the light cluster assembly.

    Many thanaks for the that . My c1 has been to the garage 5 times for water leaks in the boot . I now have spent hundreds in trying to get it fixed , new lights etc . Looking at you video i now think it could be the top brake lights ( i think you called then the Chmsl ? ) . Next Tuesday it goes in again , 6th time in 3 years of mopping up in the boot . Fingers crossed . Many thanks .

      I think you'd be better DIYing. Most garages aren't fit to service a walking stick IMO. Diagnosis by guesswork - lots of profit for them, precious little in it for you.

    Thank you for the tips, I got the x8r seals kit off ebay and I've changed the seals on the rear light clusters. I couldn't unfortunately get the middle light off as once the screws were out it seems the previous owners had glued it on and when trying to take it off the plastic was starting to crack so I left it in situ and have used clear sealant round it to try and help! The bottom of the carpet was soaked so hoping these changes help!

    Cheers mate good video.
    My main leak was the middle brake light, I removed it cleaned off the old gasket applied a beed of black silicon,fitted it back to the car cleaned off the excess silicon beautiful job.
    Oh shit I had forgot to connect the lights plug what a Donkey. So today I removed the light again, it was a bit of a struggle getting it out ,but with the help of a credit card inserted between the light and the car I managed .After cleaning of the old silicon which is a B of a job , refitted it cured .
    My secondary leak is on the door gasket at the bottom 150mm to the right of the catch .When I lifted that section of seal it looks like water is tracking under the gasket and over the lip where the door seal fits. I put some grease on this and refitted the seal to see if that is indeed the case . Will let you know.
    Have a nice Christmas .
    Andy

      Hi Andrew, thanks for recounting your experience. Who amongst us has never done that eh? You can't learn from mistakes you don't make, lol!!
      Do you mean water is tracking around the seal carrier / body flange interface? better quality seals on more expensive cars have a mastic sealant deep in the carrier to prevent that. Take the seal off all round and use a very fine nozzle to put silicon bead dep in the carrier and put back.

    • @74HC04
      @74HC04 Před 5 lety

      The C1/107 seal does have a white mastic sealant in the groove of the seal - where it contacts the bodywork of the car. It's a kind of putty-like substance. I have two broken seals in my garage to prove this - one of which is the original from my late 2011 C1. If I was to use grease, I would go for silicone grease to avoid damaging the EDPM rubber.

    Great video Cyd, watched a few of your videos and seem really really useful. I have an older Aygo turning up mid week and want to carry out all these as I know water is getting in the back, what rubber strip and sealant would you recommend for putting on the lights?
    With sealing the centre light, does it make it very difficult to then get back into for bulbs etc?
    Great channel mate, subbed and saved videos down ready to follow when carrying out work next week.

      @crpth1 Před 3 lety

      If ANY of the air box clips are difficult to reinstall it's Human error! Make sure all is properly aligned. When replacing the air filter, notice there's specific orientation for it. You'll be able to see that one corner is in fact rounded, all three others are not! ;-)
      Same for the lid. Fit on the rubber grommets of the PCV and the throttle body first. Then wiggle the remaining plastic cover into proper position. DO NOT FORCE anything. If force is required you're messing up. Cheers
