  • This new Surefire EDC2-DFT light is honestly probably the last handheld light you will ever need. Surefire really does stand behind their lifetime warranty. They replaced my 15 year old X300 with a brand new 1000 Lumen model after it starting have some issues with the battery door area. They didn't ask for proof of purchase or anything. I plan on uploading another video comparing the EDC2-DFT to its smaller brother the EDC1-DFT and then maybe one more video comparing the EDC2-DFT to a Modlite, not sure if it'll be the PLH or OKW head, maybe both!

    Im a bondsman for 2A year's and have searched ALOT of houses and properties, I'm also big into lights. The perfect light I have found for houses and nearby property lines is a surefire E2T mv tactician, it is PLENTY bright enough, also does not cause white light blindness in a house, it does to run hot around the bezel with extended use. As for a primary back up light in a bag or car I keep a olight warrior 3s it's a good light but to bright for inside use it will cause light blindness for sure. And for a small back up in my back pocket a olight 3eos, those have been my primary work and EDC set ups and work very well with year's of real world use.

    Thanks for the show on the 2.I purchased this over The 1 , because of the 18650 Battery .Better Candela with a longer runtimes sold me . I wish they could have made this a little smaller, but I understand why ,due to the 18650 battery. I have some really good throwers in my collection AceBeam 30GT/K70/Manker MK38/3X21D/L8/L7. I felt it was time to purchase a American made product, although they tend to be a little bit more pricey. I should receive this torch tomorrow and I want to thank you for going out there to do the hard work showing off some really nice torches happy new year.

      @@CivilianWarrior will do ,it just came today. I picked it up in tan .I got a great price on it for $279. surefire was asking $349 a bit of a difference in price.what a pain in the but to get it out of the packaging. I like to keep my boxes, oh well.The other lights that I mentioned all have 90.2 admitters, they get real hot real fast.The Nitecore TM 39 is one of my favorites. It a $400 torch that runs on 4 18650 hydrated. It has a throwing distance of a little over 1600 m. what’s nice about that light is it’s 5200 lm,and it pushes out 562,500 Candela. The nice thing about that light is you could run it on turbo for a good 6 1/2 to 7 minutes with no problem. I have some other crazy ones like the X 75 that son of a gun is pushing 67,000 lm with a heat sink and fans. but I have to admit that SureFire is a great design. The nice thing about the torch is you could run it on high still produce 100,000 Candela .the beauty about this light is the lumens are only banging 700 lm and that keeps the torch not running too hot . just gives you a great runtime on Turbo and delivers 100,000 Candella. 😳The problem with the 90.2 lights as you probably know most of them run too Hot, which doesn’t give you a long run time on Turbo. There are a select few that can do that like I said before the TM 39 and the K 75, but the majority of them can’t run like the surefire. I’ll let you know what I think about this torch. hey you must’ve pissed off those people in the houses lol I signed up for your channel. Keep up the good work my brother.🔦💪

    • @CivilianWarrior
      @CivilianWarrior  Před 6 měsíci +1

      That's a nice savings over the original asking price. Nitcore is sending me two of their new lights. One just has 1000 lumens but the other one has more, I think it's called edc33. I plan on going back to the same location, see if I can light up those homes again lol. I appreciate you subscribing and for the other info you shared. I reached out to Modlite to see if they could lend me one of their hog lights for review but they said all their spares are allocated for shot show. I'll ask them again after 🤞

      @jlappin6277 Před 6 měsíci

      @@CivilianWarrior I like both of those companies in the light world.The hog series are heavy punchers for their size.That would be nice if they could give you one of their torches. I like the Nitecore brand. They make some excellent lights.one of my favorites is the TM 39.I have the short body the little giant. I like to be able to swap my batteries out. I did the same thing with my Manker MK38 SFT 40.I chose to go with the one that you can swap the batteries out . Batteries are getting better and better with technology. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a lot easier to plug in.. with the TM 39 you can remove the body on that torch and let me tell you it throws 1600 m and produces 5200 lm. But with the Manker if you buy the battery pack where you can plug-in without removing the batteries that is not removable so once that goes, you’re stuck with a $400 light. The reason why I went with the SFT 40 over the 42,000 lm is because the SFT 40 has the capabilities of punching 1300 m. with the 40,000 lm 70.twos it’s more of a floodlight and gives you the capabilities of going 800 m with that light. I’ll tell you something I ended up getting today my other Manker came in the morning my MK 35 -11. oh my God what a piece of equipment. this light is punching out 2000 m 6000 lm 1 million Candela. If you get a chance please google that. i’m looking forward to your next broadcast. I’m not kidding man. You do a real good job with your facial expressions. And the way you get your words across in an excellent manner. You also know your product very well when you’re talking about it, which makes it really easy to follow you throughout the process. Good luck with your career out there my man keep up the good work I’ll be watching.

    I received the light today! Mine is the tan EDC1-DFT. It's great! The finish is matte and slightly rougher than other black anodised Surefires. One thing I didn't realise is how much longer it is compared to my EDCL1-T, which is expected, but Surefire's numbers aren't accurate and need updating, I feel.
    The throw is great. No TIR on this one, which makes its beam profile a little wonky but haven't seen a perfect beam shape since incan.
    I find the runtime is a little short, but since I'll be carrying it with me, the size of the light is good. I do also find the larger lights to be too unweildy and risk being left unused.
    Let see how the finish holds up in a few years.

    Yes, the battery charging units that do more than one cell at a time do in fact charge them at the same time for the same amount of power as though you were only charging one. Since they are usually plugged into household mains this simply means that they consume a little bit more power when being used to their capacity than if you are only charging a single cell. Of course I am talking about quality charger units versus cheap junk that may be trickle charging your cells once 4.2 volts is reached. Until now I wasn't even aware that Surefire had continued developing new models of the EDC lights. Although I am disappointed that they have simply done the old Surefire thing of making more expensive lights instead of trying to meet a market where people might actually spend $100-$175 on a light that they may never need to replace.

You should show how they’d sit in the front pocket of some blue jeans since that’s probably how we’d be living with them most of the time. I could be wrong but to answer your question at ~10 min, “good” battery chargers will provide the same amount of regulated power to each battery compartment respectively. The only change is in the rate at which it charges in that the charger that I use (I use a 4 bay Efest charger) is able to charge 2 batteries at 2 amps (each) however if 4 batteries charging simultaneously, the charging rate drops to 1 amp (each). I hope that helps bro- loved your vid ❤️🔦

    For a 700lumen light, the throw is commendable.
    Although the candela is more a testament to the reflector and beam angle than the emitter.
    Typically a thrower isn’t considered EDC unless you are in search and rescue or LE.
    Generally EDC flashlights are floods or hybrids.
    At $300+ this Surefire is very expensive and frankly quite outdated.
    On the contrary, a Nitecore MH25Pro is about $100!
    It throws to 705m at 124,300 candela!
    It runs at 1200 lumens for 2.5 hours. 3000 lumens for 30 mins!
    Much more mature battery technology and the latest emitter technology.
    This is only one of the many ‘throwers’ in the market with a high candela rating.
    Others include Olight Warrior X Pro, Cyansky K3 V2, Klarus XT12 GT Pro, Thrunite Catapult Pro and the Wurkkos TD01 to name just a few.

      Lumens vs candela and the specific need matter. The EDC2 with 700 lumens has 100,000 candela. The G2X has 600 lumens but on 8700 candela, which is fine indoors or a small backyard but not for someone needed to reach out great distances, which some of us want and need. EDC2 has hi/low, high candela and takes 18650 batteries in a durable package, which suits my needs. (I do hate the pocket clip design, so it's not perfect). The G2X is a good light, different applications require different tools. I like the G2X over the lights with electronic switches and lots of unnecessary modes.

    to add to my comment if you're looking for a good bay charger I highly recommend the nitecore intelligent chargers. The one that has two buttons on it so that you can choose what you charge the batteries at. You can charge them as low as 100ma or as high as 1000ma 100 would be your trickle charge that gives you the best performance and battery longevity. But if you just need a battery quickly then you can use the 1000 and it will charge a typical 18650 in like 30 minutes i think? I don't know. But they have a 2 bay and a 4 bay charger not sure about an 8. I have an 8 bay charger but it doesn't have the option to choose what the charge rate is.

    Have 1 surefire weapons torch. They are very robust but it's disappointing how far behind they are in output. My EDC's are Jetbeams and Olights. Brighter, cheaper, and very reliable. 21700 or 18650 power supplies make them capable of 2000-4000 lumen output levels for 1/2 the price of the surefire. 21700 superior power supply over the 18650. Charge vis USB and use as power banks as well. The reflector on the sure EDC2-DFT is outstanding though. If I were in a war zone and had the money I'd consider that torch. But for how fast tech moves it's a lot of money for that torch if you're not in the most austere conditions where reliability is paramount.

      @@CivilianWarrior looking forward to your impressions. If it's the T1 pro then it's pretty nice but maybe in a weird place where it's a touch too much hot spot for a lot of daily things but not enough candela (or runtime) to be great at heavier duty "tactical" tasks or longer distances. I like the Weltool T2 tac for bigger work and a microstream or something similar for typical close up, daily things. The surefire smokes the T2 tac on candela but it's also 3x the price.. it might be worth it but I would only put that kind of money on a pocket flashlight if I were using it professionally.

  • @bryceyancey8029
    @bryceyancey8029 Před 6 měsíci

    it depends on the charger. to be honest. and you are better off putting it in an actual battery charger because you will get a better charge and your batteries will not only last longer in the light but the life of your battery will be prolonged because your "tray" chargers charge full battery meaning all the cells will be charged. The slower the charge the better it is for your battery. if you notice your phone battery starts to not last as long as your phone get's older it's likely because you have it hooked up to a fast charger most of the time. if you want to maybe try and revive your battery in a phone or 18650 put it on a trickle charger and it will bring some life back to the cells. But chances are the damage is already done.

Then again i cant afford to buy one and throw it ina bag for 5 years without using it. Sounds like you have more money than you know what to do with. Good video though.

    does the brightness drop when the battery runs out?

    • @CivilianWarrior
      @CivilianWarrior  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Yes, all lights begin the loose their brightness after a few minutes of constant use. Some brands more than others. Typically the advertised run time on flashlights refers to time the light runs from full power up until it is only putting out 10 percent of the total output. So for this light using a fully charged 18650 battery, you'll get the 100k candela. If you leave it on, you'll only be getting about 10k candelas of output at the 2.75 hours but also depends on if it's really hot outside or really cold. Hope that makes sense.
