I agree theres a problem but I do not agree that this video helps in anyway. It comes off as petty and nitpicky. Do I love the national anthem? No. Do I think it's racist? No. I would go as far as to say this video makes the problem worse. All it is doing is aiming to divide and fuel racism from both sides.

Chasing Ghosts no the point he’s trying to make (that you clearly don’t get) is that he is trying to divide us by bringing up bad history instead of what we are doing now, since we are all Australians including aboriginals. Stop grouping us making a division which wasn’t there to begin with, in the end that’s racism the same thing he’s is saying in this video

I'm a 6th generation Aussie "white fulla". My ancestors came to Australia for the gold to escape England's oppression in Ireland. As far as I know, my ancestors never committed crimes against anyone - aboriginal or otherwise. In fact, there's a story that in fact we brothers in arms to some aboriginals in Parramatta when fighting broke out.
Now tell me this, am I Australian, were my ancestors Australian? Do I have as much of a claim to the title as you - and why do you hate me for helping protect your ancestors?

That's a isolated incident, unfortunately others did commit such crimes. He is not targeting anyone's ancestors but low-key shouting out the ones that did by recognizing the existence of such crimes. If you're ancestors didn't do anything, we cant assume that all colonists didn't do anything bad, because some did and Turning a blind eye from such crimes will be wrong. We need to learn from this nations dark history and come out unified and anew. He does this by critiquing the national anthem. You and I can do it in a different manner.

    From the dusty red-soil plains
    I am the ancient heart
    The keeper of the flame
I stood upon the rocky shores
I watched the tall ships come
For forty thousand years I've been
    The first Australian
I came upon the prison ship
    Bowed down by iron chains
I bought the land, endured the lash
    And waited for the rains
    I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife
On a dry and barren run
A convict, then a free man
    I became Australian
I'm the daughter of a digger
    Who sought the mother lode
    The girl became a woman
On the long and dusty road
I'm a child of the Depression
I saw the good times come
    I'm a bushie, I'm a battler
    I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream and sing with one voice
"I am, you are, we are Australian"
    I'm a teller of stories
    I'm a singer of songs
    I am Albert Namatjira
And I paint the ghostly gums
    I'm Clancy on his horse
I'm Ned Kelly on the run
I'm the one who waltzed Matilda
    I am Australian
I'm the hot wind from the desert
I'm the black soil of the plains
I'm the mountains and the valleys
I'm the drought and flooding rains
I am the rock, I am the sky
    The rivers when they run
The spirit of this great land
    I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream and sing with one voice
"I am, you are, we are Australian"

Good Question. When the great south land was invaded( I use the term invaded because that was the high courts decision (Mabo) when they overturned the notion of “Terra Nullius”! ) Aborigines lost all sovereignty of their land. There have never been any other options but to come under the sovereignty of the British Monarchy. Because Aborigines have no choice about their citizenship they feel there is a need to change some things that make them feel included and valued, especially with 70+ thousands of Years of occupation of this land. The only way to right those wrongs that have destroyed 70k years of culture and history and correct the history books...supported by the acknowledgement of the highest court of Australia is really to deliver a treaty! A treaty will help to iron out issues for aboriginal people but will ensure all agreements are upheld by law. If fulfilled it will end the ongoing saga of dealing with isolated issues for the most part. It won’t be a golden bullet but will certainly allow all Australians to feel a sense of real belonging. If fulfilled appropriately will be a massive healing of the national spirit. Most aussies aren’t hard arses we just hate people just trying to run rough shod over us! 😂

“Australia” as we know it today. Was formed in 1901. That’s why is says “young” in the Anthem. Nobody is denying the fact of Aboriginals being here for an unimaginable, long amount of time but what Australia is today, with the way that it works and functions was thanks the 1901 Federation of Australia ( When Australia became and actual country). So The Commonwealth Australia is young. Only 118 years old.

So why is Aus day on Jan 26. I believe they have every right to raise these issues. Indigenous Australians are not recognised in our Anthem, our constitution, our parliament, or our celebrations. Worst of all we do not really acknowledge any of the hurt we have caused their race. Its all well and good to claim we can't change the past, but we can acknowledge it and become more inclusive.

Firstly, I get and understand Briggs’ point of view. I have studied a lot into these topics. I myself do think that there is still a need to create equality between Indigenous people and ‘white’ people. Not only those two groups but other nationalities too since our country is filled will races from all over the world. But this. Come on man. You can’t make this video criticising the racism that white people have inflicted onto the Indigenous peoples, while being racist to all other Australians by grouping them as ‘you lot’. That there is racist. I am not one to be PC but mate. Not only that but yes the national anthem can be taken out of context but in the time and context of when this song was written, can you understand why the lyrics are how they are? Like really dude. This was not powerful or change provoking. Yes this was a opinion and in our FREE country you can share and have this opinion. But what about informing people on the facts and stats that you have shared and maybe suggest solutions for change rather than just disrespecting a national anthem just because the lyrics aren’t in todays context morally or ethically correct.

I hate nationalism in general, but that doesn't mean we can't reclaim this song with its symbolism to be more representative. or we can make a new anthem since it is pretty lame. I honestly think these culture war arguments go nowhere. fighting over a song or a day won't change the reality for indigenous Australians, only through the combined work of indigenous communities and government policy can these issues be dealt with.
