The writing, character design, storyboarding, camera angles, editing, lighting, shading, animation, and painting all work together to make Sharptooth look terrifying and feel threatening. There's not one single aspect of the filmmaking in the first movie that's not going towards making him feel like a legitimate, real threat. Thought was put into every single frame to how he could scare the shit out of the viewers. Unfortunately, the same level of detail was not put into Red Claw. Edit: Also want to add in one of the biggest reasons why Sharptooth feels tougher in terms of animation alone; Sharptooth feels like he has more weight. Sure, Red Claw knocks some things over and stomps around, but with Sharptooth's animation you actually *feel* it, and not just from the screen shaking. You can see there's weight to his tail when he swings it, and the weight of every footstep when he stomps down. Even being thrown off the cliff, you have a strong sense of how much he weighs. This also adds to the idea of how big he is, thus making him feel more like a threat. You can place bigger characters next to smaller characters to show a size comparison, but you're not going to really *feel* it unless the weight is animated into their movements.
Exactly! This is why Sharptooth is still one of my favourite portrayals of a T.rex of all time. I absolutely love how the animation shows him as being extremely fast and nimble for his size, but at the same time it also shows the incredible weight and strenght of his muscles. It's even more impressive when you know just how difficult traditional animation is. His scenes had to take forever to animate.

On one hand you got an Ark giga sized Trex. And on the other hand you got Jurassic Park or world size T-Rex. That's one fucking hell of a size difference. Giving it to da OG, please calm down mate
Yeah, I mean come on, one is dead and dark green and his the only one that got a confirm kill in this darn realistic/ unrealistic mess with more than lots of no sense of a franchise while the other is brown with a tan underbelly and is the most laughable and pathetic antagonist, but characters like Chomper keeps on calling him the meanest Sharptooth of them all when he clearly isn't but every other characters nods oe that or agree, even ones that knows him or his infame and has been forgotten, why did they treat him so dirty? It's so frustrating, granted he drown and he's dead but still come on! In fact if you want a connection to make a previous secondary character gaining main characters perks and the rest along with making his parents and him more interesting than only boring neutral now since the last time we saw them, having let their only son in the care of Ruby's parents before the responsabiliy felling on Ruby of having to be the caretaker of Chomper apparently asked to her by his mom but so little is actually explained it's as vague as The shipping of Litt lefoot and Ali do to might be blood related cousins, again just a short sentence said to us by Grandpa Longneck that's vague, they're our cousins, okay, how many of them are your cousins in Old One's Longenck migratory herd? And apparently from Grandma Longneck's side sincevshe was the one who asked to help her for her to get the Night Flowers for Grandpa Longneck and we only hear only two other voices to her plea, back to the Sharptooth though because I digress but he could have been Chomper's Uncle or Papa Sharptooth's Dad, I mean Chomper's Dad aka Papa Sharptooth as he is called by Land Before Time is a the Sharptooth's look-alike so that wouldn't be such a stretch really... even though there's like ten other Sharpteeths that spares the same color as him, feels like they just copy and pasted from 1 to 7 but where forced to give another color for Chomper's Mom so we couldn't mix them up but aside for that they waited for Land Before Time 8 to give us the first male Sharptooth that's not dark green but grey but the problem is that is color could have changed do to how cold it was when he showed up to be one of the few predators that isn't stupid enough to waste his precious energy chasing a bunch of hatchling not worth the effort in the first place but the exception is there for once because you have a really old Thicknose with them that's finally worth the effort. The dynamic between Littlefoot and Chomper if that idea would have come to their heads and brings an even bigger message for kids than the one we got for Land Before Time II of him and Papa Sharptooth related to him but still not responsible for what happened and even the Sharptooth was just an antagonist because se needed one, he was preying on the herds as him and the rest of the Meat Eaters followed to try to survive l'ike the herd's we're trying to, feeding on the ones who went astray away from the herds to be picked off by them, and granted he was stupid enough and having lost reason for chasing two five Cold Times old Leaf Eaters in Littlefoot and Cera, du de, there's no way ever that's worth the effort, and even more stupid to fight Littlefoot's Mother afterward, again, dude, that's a Sauropod you fought, you don't mess with Sauropods unless you have a death wish, realistically the first tail blow she delivered to you can break your bones as if they were twigs, and you took one of those three's directly one the side of your face before you managed to leapt, but no, who cares about realism am I right? This is a kids movie but a dark and sad one, Littlefoot's Mother should be still alive, I think and wrote a better scenario than Universal Studios ever did with the sequels and I'm only going on my third year on fanficton story writting which I knew next to nothing before it, I love and hate this franchise, #$@% Land Before Time XIII, Land Before Time XIV is a cash and grab as they surf back on the crave of dinosaur movie being popular again do to Jurrasic World where they tried to go with the same plot as the first classic movie but failed, goodbye
