Zoning and building codes aren’t politics. It’s life. Everyone who is in development has to deal with this. Some people don’t want a steeple and some people do. What do you do? Do you cave to those who don’t only because that’s their feeling? Or do you stand for what’s right (because they have made exceptions in the past?) Don’t fall for these clowns and their loud barking. Once the temple is approved they move on to something else to whine about.

Stand for the Mesa temple and the Paris temple and all those without spires because they are no less important or meaningful than any others. As Bednar said, size doesn't matter and as Nelson said, the architecture doesn't matter. Stand for what's right! Believe the brethren when they say how important it is to work with localities on zoning issues and build temples everyone can appreciate. Stand for what's right and refuse to tell the lie that steeples and steeple height are crucial to temple worship!

The problem with moving this temple away from prosper TX to another town 30 minutes away is this. When rmn announced the temple location in gc, we members assumed that rmn et al had prayed or asked god if they should build in prosper or better, we assume they are receiving revelation from god as to where god wants his temples located. We also assume god cares where and who gets a temple, yes? I think this is fair to say.
So are they prophets? Are they capable of hearing gods voice and divine decrees? Did rmn produce stern warnings that itbwill not be possible to survive in coming days if we cannot hear him? Yes he did that pre covid... and several times. He even produced 2 minute vignettes on how dire it was that we know how to clearly hear god speaking to us.
Yet they appear to not notice that they themselves heard him incorrectly. They heard him say prosper TX as the location. Did they not?
I mean if they didnt hear prosper TX, why did rmn declare it across all media in general conference?
Do we not attend gc to hear the will and mind of the lord? We do. And that is the sticky wicket.
Either god got the location wrong or rmn cannot hear him. Neither scenario is ideal for shoring up faith in this institution as being divinely guided by god himself.
I'm a member in good standing and this really bothers me if I'm honest.

With respect to the perceived "unfairness" between the taller Methodist Bell Tower and shorter LDS spire/steeple and supposed controversy between what gets approved or not . . . at least a bell tower has a centuries-old religious tradition of tolling the bells to mark liturgical times. Of what practical purpose is a really tall spire? No interior rooms, no rituals held therein -- it's just a tall, empty thing of no religious purpose!! It is beyond absurd. Can a blind believer's sight be drawn upward? Is a Tokyo believer's sight drawn "heavenward" to the same place as a Fairview believer's? (NO -- their up is our down!!). It is simply, "our spire's taller than yours . . . our church can be seen for MILES around because of our spire . . . nah-nah-nuh-boo-boo!!!"
    Childish attitude.
p.s. -- I LOVE Nemo: "I have nothing better to do than defend people when my church is behaving badly"!!!

What are you talking about? How many temples have spires? Most of them. The court will decide. I think the approval of the belltower is pretty tough to overcome. Pretty hard to claim there's not discrimination if they approved it for another. You can tell it's clearly discrimination. You can see how many people are chiming in because they just don't like the church. But that unfortunately is the definition of discrimination.

Generous estimate would be 15,000 members between five stakes in the district. But the Frisco Stake recently closed two wards and the Allen Stake (which includes the Fairview Ward) is hovering at 100 households per ward. And once a kid turns 18, they become their own household, regardless of whether they are away for school.

Strictly from the perspective of being part of a small business lawsuit, I might get a request for information from my attorney, quickly respond, and they would wait to deliver that information until just ahead of a deadline. Lawyers stonewall for their side while being quick to make action on the part of the opposition sound urgent with delay being problematic.

I mean...I'm still listening to this sht. It's total mental gymnastics. These clowns don't know what they're talking about.
This is the best part. They show the document that says this:
I'm looking at the minutes from the Fairview planning and zoning meeting Aug 24, 2006 and they state 'the height of the bell tower is 154 feet...and if this height is approved by the FAA then the staff also recommends approval...The town staff recommends approval of the CUP, site plan, and associated documents for the Creekwood United Methodist Church, upon satisfactorily meeting the conditions...'. That's verbatim. That will make pretty interesting material in court. I'd past a pic of it here, but this thread won't allow.
Old boy with the red hair says he used to be the president of the home owners association. Incredible qualifications. He also says his lawyers are telling him (he has lawyers? riiiiggggttttt...) that 20 years ago is too long ago to have precedent. Don't lawyers cite precedent more than 20 years old all the time? I work with legal matters and I know personally of precedents we cite all the time from the 1940s. wtf is this guy talking about?
Now they're talking about invading iraq or something and conspiracy theories.
'Again it's a misunderstanding of the political process and who could understand it really unless they were involved in it...we don't know, the average person doesn't know'...wow, that sounds a lot like the explanation i got about spiritual wives and sht. This is very funny.

OMG, you people make me laugh. These conditions at time stamp 1:05 are all standard conditions for getting every house, duplex, school, strip mall, fast-food joint, gas station, warehouse, office building, apt. complex, etc., whether or not a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) is necessary for a unique aspect of the project or not. The list of conditions is not a list of items which require exception using the CUP process. The only condition relevant to the CUP is the 154’ height of the bell tower. Even the FAA approval is a standard filing made with them which is routinely approved if the tower or spire is not in the flight path of an airport. Architects and engineering design firms know this know this and the design firm hired by the Methodist Church would never have designed the project for the Church with a Bell Tower in proximity to an airports flight path. The design engineering firm also knows all the fire department requirements, easement requirements, utility hook-up requirements ahead of time and designs the project to meet them from day one. You are making an argument that is irrelevant to your contentions against the LDS Church. Hahahaha…..the big long list list of ten ominous requirements are just standard stuff that is done anyway outside of the CUP process. If the Zoning Commission would have left all ten out, it wouldn’t have changed a thing because each of the 10 things has a separate approval process independent of the zoning commission. In fact there are likely, a dozen other independent approvals needed including, sewer, storm runoff, traffic, parking, street lighting requirements etc. that are independent of the CUP process and could have been listed but weren’t. If they fail to meet any of the listed or non-listed requirements, it is routine practice for the Zoning Commission to revoke the CUP. Hahahaha…I bet that even after I just explained it to you here and now in this posted comment you still don’t get the process and you think you have proved something against the LDS Church….hahahaha!!!1

Honestly this all sounds pretty silly. I don't think these people are very familiar with legal issues. None of this seems unusual if you're familiar with law and business and how you go about getting something done. This is all normal. The church wants a certain kind of temple, they picked a location where they thought they could get it done even though they might have to fight some. And they're going to fight to get it done. There probably really is religious descrimination. Particularly since the documents show they were ok with the height of the belltower. It never got build but they say they will be ok with it if it meets FAA height regulations.
