    Hey Mike! When I was a youngster, my first combine was a Massey Harris 92 combine that came with an impish 15 foot header and a 50 bushel grain tank. There wasn't any AC...hell...there wasn't even a cab! Just an umbrella to keep the sun off your back. Dust, dirt, chaff and other irritants made a combiner's life a living hell. If you were harvesting into the wind, it was nice, clean and cool...but when you turned the corner to come back...all hell would break loose. Not fun...but it was all we had! Then in 1974, we bought a brand new MF 750, complete with a cab AND air conditioning, a 24 foot header and a 140 bushel grain tank. Man were we livin'! Thanks for bringing back some of the older machinery for us to remember. Thank you for the video. Take care Mike...be safe.

    Thanks for giving the post-millenial era combine operators an idea of what fun really is. The only way it can be more fun is running a combine without a cab. Now that was really fun. You know, getting all that itchy dust all over you day in and day out, day after day after day, you get the picture. Man great times that was. I started combining with a Massey Ferguson 90 special in the early 60s and ended with a John Deere 7720 turbo in the 90s. Cheers...

    It was a very good combine at that time and it had a cab.
    I drove a combine in the 70s. It was quite dusty to drive without a cab, but it was good visibility.

    It’s awesome you guys still have that old girl and it’s field ready to boot! The very first thing I ever drove was a Farmall Super A, my dad sold firewood and we used it to haul logs out to the landing, it had a blade on front that attached at the drawbar and used a cable that ran from the 2 point arms through a pulley on the drawbar to another under the front axle and he built a log arch that pinned on to the two point that worked pretty slick, drop the blade, aka the parking brake;), hook a chain on to a couple of logs, pick it up and go. I was 7 the very first time and I’m amazed I lived to see 8, I almost flipped it over backwards the 3rd trip to the landing, I’m not sure how close to vertical I was before my stubby legs hit the clutch but the front tires blew when they hit the ground, thankfully I took it out of gear cause I went flying right under the steering wheel, scared the shit right out of me. I cried. Then threw up. Dad wasn’t even pissed, he was just happy I remembered to push the clutch in if anything happens and I got scared, lol

    Ha ! Love the wood grained inserts.
    I learned on a 914 PT and a 1480.
    It is surprising how little combines have changed in 40 years.
    The 914 used a car horn in the cab to signal when the straw walkers were plugging up. Brutal wake up call at 3AM when the straw got tough.

      One of the poorest excuses of a combine ever made; but the inline 6 cylinder Perkins was a great engine at its time, and to this day a very respectable , economical running motor. The V-8 Perkins had heating problems and to beat all, you had to sit right next to it ! Lord have mercy! !!

    Those belt drivers like on the 860’s were very good on fuel with that 6 cylinder Perkins engines , we run them a long time and a friend of mine still runs 5 of them 3 belt drivers and 2 hydro’s . They are old school with mostly MF tractors 3 4900’s 3 4880’s a Tiger Steiger and a 1150 Versatile. They don’t farm as much as you guys but they are running 600 hundred cows witch as you well know takes up a lot of time . They never seem to have any free time .

    • @dallasbaiton3234
      @dallasbaiton3234 Pƙed 4 lety +2

      Most don’t know that farming has changed and now it is a business and every business is different. No two business are the same . Acres are not all the same , you are lucky to get an average of 17 in of moisture in a year were as the state of Kentucky gets around 60 in a year , big difference and they get two crops a year . When they an average of 230-260 bushels an acre but have to spend 700$ per acre on some imputes you can’t compare with dry land farming . So if you have good people good equipment good management a lot of good luck you can farm bigger but most don’t know the stress that comes with all that as well , I loved driving big equipment but I sure don’t envy any one managing large operations . People are still more interested in the number of acres but not the work that it takes . Mike you are good to listen to and very informative as you narrate your videos, I’m glad you make the time to do them and you don’t need to tell anyone about the size of the farm , if there have to ask they don’t need to watch there are a lot how watch to see how dry land farming is done in the south west of Saskatchewan

      @@ronkeking97 I agree! Tough as nails! Now a days we live a in a I "feel" =truth society.
      I "feel" like I am sick - better take a month of work.
      I "feel" like I ll identify as a turtle today - in which case you can greet me with "Mr turtle head"
      I "feel" like you offended me, and your hatred will not be tolerated.
