    The carriage bolt for seed depth should be dropped into the square hole in the (plow wedge)? Nice seeder. I have one just like it. Only 30 years older. 😉

    I enjoyed your video and I will be using some of your tips. I have been using a Earth Way seeder for some years now without any mods. I will be raising my handle and lubricating my seed plates, but instead of using vegetable oil, I will use a good paste wax. I live in the foothills of the Ozarks and have a lot of rocks in my soil so I have to rake where the row will be before I use the planter. Thanks again for the video.

    WOW! That was a really good video. Thanks for just looking to help out and not trying to make a bunch of money off your knowledge like so many of these young urban farmers are doing now. I like your tips. I Do have a question for you. You had said if you wanted to spare the seeds out farther. But what if you want plant seeds CLOSER together. (I'm thinking about lettuce mix. We grew those pretty close together and it looks like the lettuce wheel only has 8 holes per however long the circumference is of the wheel. Is there way you have found to do that?

    Great video, Mark! I should have watched this earlier; we planted corn today using the Earthway. I don't think I had the depth set deep enough because I ended up having to go back over some of the rows and cover the seeds. Also, in reading the other comments I'm sorry to hear about your wife. I can only imagine how difficult it's been raising your kids without your better half. Thanks for sharing!

      Also did you ever think about using cattle panels for fencing around your beautiful garden, best thing is you can buy a little at a time . Each one is 16 feet long and 50 inch tall about $21 each panel. And heavy duty 4 gauge wire very, very strong.

    Have been watching your instructional videos religiously since I accidentally came across one while looking for something else. You explain every subject in through detail and you certainly go all out with the visual aids. I realize you receive compensation via the Tube. However it is obvious that you are an above board type of guy that is truly representative of what society in whole should strive to be like. Thank you from all of us for the demonstrations and extra effort you put forth in each of your videos. We all reap the benefits of good food and a sustainable earth. May you live a long and happy and profitable life.

    Instead of silicone (and waiting a day for it to dry), you could use masking or scotch tape to block some holes for immediate use. It's also less messy.

    • @iamorganicgardening
      @iamorganicgardening  Před 4 lety +3

      That was the first thing I tried also. The tape doe not stick well to the plastic seed wheel and gets caught it the seed hopper and creates a huge mess. THANKS for sharing.

    Veg oil turns rancid and can introduce bacteria to the seeds. Try mineral oil from the pharmacy. Good for many uses around the house, from treating cutting boards to a remedy for constipation. Cheaper than veg oil as well.
    Been using my earthway more than 20 years. It's so old mine is red plastic and aluminum. Great tool and still inexpensive. My local small town hardware store used to carry them. Home depot put them out of business.
    Thanks for the demo! Happy planting.

      20 years?Thats brand new! I have a thilot seeder from abouth 6o years old.The thilot seeders are still in production today.But with my old seeeder made from wood and iron I have the problem that with small seeds it picks up more at once or nothing.My seeder works with another techniek,He picks up the seed from the lower area,not with a disk but with a vertical turning table and a periodic releasing chamber.My question is: How good is this machine working with the small seeds? does he pick up one at the time? I,m from the netherlands I saw the soil in the movie,wat a big difference with the soil in holland it looks so bad. Why they use that kind of soil for culture??

    Mark, thank you so much for this video. I have a few questions, if you don’t mind.
    1) If I am planting lettuce, how far apart will this seeder plant the seeds without having to use silicone or something like that? Does it naturally plant KALE one INCH apart? What about lettuce? Beets? Beans? Peas? Can the space between the seeds be adjusted without so much effort in blocking multiple seed spaces on the plate?
    2) How does the guide for the next row work? It looks like it marks it a couple feet away. I want to plant 8 rows of beets in a 30-inch bed. Does it work this way or only marks the new, next row? Does that make sense?
    3) I’d like to use this to plant lettuce, beets, etc. around my orchard trees for chickens. Can you use this in a circular pattern around the trees of does it only push in a straight line?
    4) If you were to give this a star rating, 1-5, how would you rate it and why?
    Thank you so much! Love your work and videos! I’ve learned so much from your channel.

    I use a little corn planter Graphite in my Earthway to lubricate the plate it is way better than any kind of oil that may cause seeds to stick or dust sticking.

    Hi. Thanks for the best review of this tool on CZcams.
    Please two questions; what's the purpose of that hole on the belt side on your 'seed tank' that gets covered by a plate, and if you would wish how could you do small row markings about 10cm (4in.) or so with that row marker? Greetings from Europe

    • @volvo650daniel
      @volvo650daniel Před 4 lety

      Maybe you figured it out by now, but I think the hole on the hopper works as a "safety" device, if seed gets stuck it can get out. Take a stick or something similar to make a row marker closer :-)

    • @317lawnboy
      @317lawnboy Před 2 lety

      It’s for pushing the seed plate off of the plate hub in case it gets stuck.

  • @gregmcmullen6698
    @gregmcmullen6698 Před 3 lety

    I just bought one of these. Assembled it and used it an hour ago. Turned a back breaking 4+ hour job into 30 minutes, this includes the time spent looking for the nut for the axle on the front wheel which fell off while seeding. I stepped on it and buried it. It will never fall off again... Don't know the author of the video, but you have the row marker "rod" on the wrong side of the steel SUPPORT plate. You will certainly be replacing that plastic support pin regularly if you don't move the rod to the other side of the support. Peace.

    Negatory on the veggie oil. You should use talc powder or dry graphite powder for plate lube. Any liquid or past lube WILL attract grit and make the friction even worse than before you lubed it.

      I hate to tell you this, but Talc has asbestos in it. That’s why Johnson and Johnson is getting sued over their baby powder. They knew this for 11 years and hid that information from the general public. While we slathered it on our babies and ourselves.
