How much does it cost to replaster a pool?

  • Had my pool re-plastered. Found a way to save lots of $. Not trying to blast any pool builders or discredit them. There are lots of reputable pool builders out there that are well worth the extra investment. Unfortunatley there's many people out there that bare this extra expense and they can't afford it. I'm just showing how I was able to save. I'm sure it's a gamble. It may or may not last but it is an option.

    I really like the tiles on the edge of the stairs. Gave me a good idea. Anytime I have some older family or people over to swim they don’t like the white plaster cause they have a hard time seeing the edge of the stairs. I’m having mine plastered next spring and I’m definitely doing the tiles on the stairs.

    Good tip: if you're ever driving around and see construction crews working on a neighbor's house or something like that, pull over, find the lead guy and get his number. You never know when your gonna need it. More times than not, these are subs working for a contractor that you can hire on your own. However, the plus side of hiring a contractor is not having to manage the work yourself + contractors are typically licensed and insured.

      A great tip, and that's exactly what i do and have met and used some great guys. I don't have a problem with people making money per se but i don't like paying the overheads of the guys at the top (their cars, their houses etc etc) especially as quite often they haven't got their hands dirty. Perhaps that's just me.

I have taken care of my pool from day one and the plaster lasted from 1988. With this new plaster, I expect to get another 30 years, by half hour daily upkeep, easy.

      I highly recommend not doing this most pool builder's remodeling companies give 5 or 10 year warrenty. Employ hard working respectful people and all in all its the prep work thats important. 72 hours start to finish sounds scary. Pool will definitely not last as long as the first. It takes days to prep out a pool and is very hard dusty work chipping hammers grinders with diamond blades it can take a week and 4 or 5 guys to just prep a pool using hammers and a fine tuned ear to no what plaster needs to go and what can stay. Definitely recomend a good licence and innsuered crew. If you just pick up a cheep Mexican crew you are cheating your self and all the business that work hard and long hours making things right

    Did you just throw the water away that was in the pool, and did your cost include refilling the pool? Here in FL they charge about $500 per 5000 gallons, or you can fill it with a hose but it takes longer and will probably cost about the same. Also, did they remove all the plaster or just around the tile?

    Nice pool, and great job that you found a subcontractor to redo plaster your pool.
    Last year I lost $500 for a security payment to a very well known pool company in Phoenix, Arizona. The pool I planned to build is 16'x32' which cost $40K. Just a simple rectangular pool, no water fountain or anything. I think it's ridiculous so I canceled it and lost $500, because the builder already submitted the plan to the city. Now, I am researching to build my own pool, hopefully I will start it this year and get it done by next year. Can't wait to get my own pool.

      I received the names of 2 contractors from an Orlando, Florida area tile supply in business for 60 years. They sell pool tile to the contractors and know who purchases significant amount of product. Both tile contractors also do the refinish. I received estimates of 40 to 50 percent of the cost provided by the large companies that subcontract the work.

    Not to be a negative Nellie out there...But questions for you. Did you say they did not remove the old plaster? Sounds like they did a bond coat? Maybe why there was such a cost difference? Also, did you check their license and make sure they had workers comp insurance? What was their written warranty? FB marketplace guys in our area often "borrow" a friend's license then hire cash labor putting you the homeowner at risk. Injuries at your home, mean lawyers can take you to court and you will settle paying way more. Rarely have I seen an apples-to-apple comparison out there. A lot of these guys work for other plaster companies in your local area, then get hired on by a "friend" to do a quick job and make some cash. I've been on both sides of these transactions, take it from a pro or leave it. Just my thoughts.

    Replaster for me was about $8,000. Water was about $1250. This is on a 18' x 38' pool. Mine was done by an actual plasterer, not a pool contractor.
    What pool chemicals do you use to make your plaster last so long?

    • @MrMusic55123
      @MrMusic55123 Před 2 lety

      what do you mean by water was $1250? Didn't you use your own water to fill it out ?

    • @Inmate533
      @Inmate533 Před 2 lety

      @@MrMusic55123 No. I had two semi trucks deliver the water right when the plasterers were done. After plastering, you need to get water in the pool faster than my garden hose and well pump can provide, so it doesn't crack. Plus, at the time my state was under a severe drought so pumping 27,000 gallons out of my well continuously wouldn't have been a great idea.

      All the quotes I got they told me they drill the hole. It keeps the pool from floating up from the ground I’m told. They pour new concrete in the hole.

    • @jjm152
      @jjm152 Před 2 lety

      @@bjyachts The reason for this varies by location to location. Basically, if you have ground water at the depth of your pool, it can pop out due to hydraulic pressure. The hole just lets the ground water seep into the pool instead of pushing against it. Some pools actually come with valves built into them that you can just pop open instead of drilling new holes. Anyway, where I live there is no ground water under my pool so it's not a concern for me.
