I heard The Palms is reopening on the 27th/28th of this month. Be the first to stay there with your review. Would love to see that.
The Cosmo or The Palms next
The Palms?
Conrad
Just booked 4 nights at RIO for this October for $280 total. I drive from California so restaurants being closed is not an issue for me. Chinatown is right around the corner with some great restaurants. I would rather keep my money to play instead of wasting on a room I will only be showering and sleeping in. Thanks for the review guys, nice work!!
Was trying to decide between the Cosmo for 1k for one night (oct 10) or the rio for 40 bucks. Easy decision. I hang at the Cosmo all night and sleep/shower at the cheap place.
@@acjohn6995 Stayed 4 nights in August. Worst part was the homeless hanging out in the masquerade area to get out of the heat. If you have strip view, you can watch the homeless exiting and entering the flood channels at all hours. Do not think I would stay again, but it is a better option than say, Silver Sevens.
nice video I will be staying at the Rio in 2 more weeks for my summer vacation :) I cant wait to explore everything and eat ,drink, and enjoy Vegas.
Thanks for taking us with you!!
Hey Dave, cool Dropkick Murphys Claddaugh Fund Shirt. Awesome
Thanks for showing us The Rio . I had heard it went down hill . Sounds like they are doing a major upgrade on it . I used to hang out @ The Diamond Lounge and Voodoo Lounge back in the day . I actually saw Prince perform there a decade ago . One of the best 2 1/2 hr concert that I have ever been to . I will never forget it . RIP Prince 💜 - # TIUW
Loved the el cortex video will check it out on my next trip to Vegas
You both did a very good job explaining the Rio Hotel out of everybody else's videos. You were informative, and funny, and good with food and presentable. Rooms were okay but the views and the high rise sold it for me. I'll be staying there next week... Preciatecha
It’s sad to see what’s happened to the Rio. I’ve seen Penn and Teller a couple of times years ago and I used to really enjoy their buffet. Thanks for the honest review. I won’t be going back there anytime soon.
Good review. Thanx for sharing. Safe travels. Karen
My first trip to Vegas was in 04 and we stayed at the Rio. I remember the window in the shower, and those tracks on the ceiling was when they had like a floating Mardi Gras boat like contraption would float by and there was people in it, and they threw beads off of it. That was my first and only time staying at the Rio. Love your channel. Looking for you both when I visit Vegas this summer!
Love you guys!!!
Great Show...Love You Guys...Keep up the Great Work...Stayed at the RIO January 2020, Yes dated, stayed there did not gamble there spent most of my time on the strip and downtown
Wow!!!!!!!!! Love the review Tanya and Dave!
Thank you!
Great honest review. Love you two.
Thanks girlfriend. Glad you enjoyed the video.
you guys are awesome!
I always wanted to walk to the rio from the strip. I might try it Wednesday
Hey Dave and Tanya I'm a travelling Poker dealer so I've definitely noticed since the last few WSOPs that place gives me graveyard feels with a great view. I hope to meet you guys when I deal next month at Bally's/Paris for the 2022 WSOP. I got recommended your channel about six months ago and I love the videos you create, I feel like a part time resident myself when I'm out there 2-3 months out of the year anyways take care and I love Turn It Up World!!!
Rio used to have the free show masquerade in the sky was wonderful. Also had a great seafood buffet.
Love the choices of shirts Dave, that DKM claddagh fund one is 👍
I remember when we picked it up at the Dropkick's concert at House of Blues. Dave loves that shirt. His other favorite is the Franklin's BBQ one as well.
Great video. Thank you !
Thank Yury! Greatly appreciated.
I was worried about the “Bed Test “ being a disaster. I’m shocked too, that the mattress wasn’t so bad . I like all of your new pop up’s . I also , love your new emoji for the YT membership
Thanks Tracy. We were pleasantly surprised that the bed test wasn't a disaster. Glad you enjoyed the video.
That was one of my favorite hotels to stay at back in the day when the masquerade was in the sky. We had so much fun it was such a popular place to go to. I truly do miss it.
I stayed at the Rio back in 1999 and it was awesome. Marci Gras vibes, VooDoo Lounge, Grand Buffet, All Suite rooms, Free Shuttle tot he Strip. Sad to see how outdated it looks. Hope they get a renovation
Y’all are brave souls 😳 Glad it is in the process of getting some TLC
Yup! We are! 😂👏 We do hope they can revive this place.
When I was last there, they had the WSOP and the Carnivale overhead.
Another great review Tanya and Dave , you always honest about the Good the Bad and the Ugly 👌
What do I have to do to get a hearted reply from Tanya 😍
Thank you very much! We're glad you enjoyed the video.
Just stayed at the Rio from March 29-April 3 for my husbands pool tournament. We stayed there bc that is where the tournament was being held. I was actually pleasantly surprised! (Before we left I was not thrilled bc I had heard it was going down and was expecting a not great property). The room was huge and comfortable, I loved the big separate dressing area. My favorite thing was it’s close proximity to Chinatown, which has TONS of awesome food options. Had our best meals in Vegas in Chinatown! And much cheaper than the strip.
Also very easy to get an Uber to the strip from the Rio.
During this trip we stayed one night in the Octavius tower at Caesars and honestly I would not stay there again… it was SO much walking just to get out of the hotel/casino onto the strip. And I love to walk! A bottle of water at the Rio was about $4, but at Caesars about $8. You save enough on 2-3 bottles of water to fund your Uber to the strip💥
We were also there for the tournament we stayed a week
Wow that looks fun
It needs more than a refresh...it needs a entire resort rehaul. Rio makes Wal-Mart look like the Ritz.
Great review!! loved the best test @3:45 @7:00 great voodoo rooftop lounge view
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Are you planning a trip to Las Vegas?
Agreed! I am hopeful that once the Hyatt gets a hold of it the Rio will be "The Place" to stay. Thank you so much Tanya and Dave; you guys ROCK! CAB 😍
Yes, we agree, let’s hope it gets a new lease on life with renovations!
The outside scene was wonderful everything else not so much. I loved the Rio back in the day fantastic concert. The smell all over the room...UGH!!!! I really hope they fix the great property. You two did another great vlog 👍🏾👊🏾👍🏾👊🏾👍🏾👊🏾👍🏾👊🏾
Thank you! We hope so as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Was there during WSOP 2021 and it was sad. I remember reading a lot of blogs where people were getting robbed because of the event. Many people felt that it was an inside job so I was careful not to mention that I was there for the events. Very few eating options and we ended up taking a cab to the strip most of the time or playing next door. I'm glad they're moving the event to the strip going forward! I remember back in the day when they had the free rides to the strip with the overhead show and awesome buffet. Needs major redo or imploded for something better.
Sorry to hear that about the inside jobs! Terrible. Yes, definitely needs a major redo!
The bed test is hilarious 😂
I have fond memories of staying at the Rio three times between 1997 and 1998....such a fun and vibrant place....it was Mardi Gras every day. Nice buffet (very reasonably priced) and a unique gondola show along the ceiling track. The people I stayed with (My Mom and friend) have since passed on, but the memories of a better time and place linger.
You are right. So sad. I have had such good times there. Rode on the floats in the sky, watched the show. Still have beads and the Voodoo is a wonderful restaurant. Thank you.
I will say this: I just stayed at the Rio Sunday-Tuesday and while I definitely agree with you both overall.....................Rio's Voodoo Pool has held up remarkably well as one of the better pools in Vegas behind Encore's, Wynn's, Mandalay Bay's, MGM Grand's, Sahara's and Vdara's, but above many other properties. I actually really enjoyed their pool. =)
Another plus is that the Rio Zipline is a lot of fun. Highly recommend that. =) And while the resort itself is dated and depressing overall, I will say my room was very clean and comely, so that's a plus too.
I haven't been to the Rio since the early 90s, when they first opened. Won a jackpot on a 5 cent machine for $500 and they were very rude about it. Never gone back.
Best bed test in the business! I would have went back down and complained about the smoke, get an upgrade!
Thanks Serash! Yes, smoky rooms are no good for us!
I stayed there about 5 years ago. It definitely needs some love.
Love y’all’s honesty. In all the times I’ve been to Vegas, I’ve never been to the Rio. -S
They also had a seafood buffet that was really good
Hey i was there when you were. We did 3 nights before switching hotels. The A.C caused my daughter to have major breathing problems that got scary. As soon as we switched hotels she started getting better. We only really had major issues while in the room and very little out of the room.
Stratosphere Sahara & Gold Coast YALL gotta do next !
First off, y'all are the CUTEST, I absolutely adore you two, the vibe y'all have is amazing and I hope you have nothing but love and success in your relationship.
My partner and I stayed at the RIO in 2020, when most everything was shut down and our room did not look like that, lol. Sorry. Anywho, my stay was decent, but being so far away from everything can be a downer. I really want to check out their pool and that lounge, hoping it'll get some life/people there soon.
P.S. I saw y'all walking the strip in January, I was geeked out. 😻
The track you showed on the ceiling of the casino was the Masquerade in the Sky parade. Floats would move around in a Mardi Gras theme and people in the floats would throw candy at you. Yes, the Rio was The Place in the 90's, but it's not the 90's now. The Rio was a fun place back in the day.
I like Las Vegas a lot because they have a lot of Casinos but my most favorite Casinos are The Circus Circus and Circa and Harra’s
Will be at the Rio in May, hope I get a updated room.
How was your stay? I will be there end of June.
We visit Vegas 1-2 times a year. We stayed at the Rio in 2017.(we normally do stay at Ceasar's properties because we get the best comps) . The room was huge and very clean. We arrived at about 9 AM and did not have to pay for early check in. The gaming in the casino was just "OK" . We loved the pool and the view from our room. Downside was the price of Uber for us to go to the strip. . But it was fun for us to stay sort of "off strip" for that one stay. And it was 5 years ago. But your room now looked nothing like ours in 2017! Ours was not dated llike that ! We usually stay on strip and this year plan to do 1 of our 2 visits in a downtown hotel.
I really loved the rio in 2005ish. It was so cool back then, it is just a shell of its old self
Definitely RIO is looking pretty sad these days. Thanks for your honest review. 👍Hope the new owners bring it back to life.
I also booked a room 5 nights in Sept. I work for caesars so I do t pay resort fees. Rio was cheapest in caesars umbrella. 5 nights for $350. I'm fine with a beautiful non crowded space. Thx for video
I've had dinner at Voodoo lounge several times. That was 20 years ago. This place needs some help. New owners are letting it go. Thanks for the great video TIUW.
Right now, we believe for the next two years it's still under the umbrella of Caesars so hopefully once Dreamscape finally gets in there, they bring RIO back.
Good Times for sure back then .The Voodoo lounge was the IT spot back then . The view is still amazing
Aw, it's sad Rio wa let go. The room was a strange design, and super creepy when you were trying to find the restaurant. That view was amazing though! 😍
It really was. The view was pretty awesome. Hopefully they'll get things back in order when Dreamscape takes over.
Hope you’ll be reviewing Palms when it opens later this Spring.
Saw Penn and Teller at The Rio several years ago.
What has happened there is sad. I hope it can be reclaimed, but it’s going to take some serious investment.
Yea, I was there in March 2022, and I could not believe how dime the lighting was in the area that you all were in. I didn’t know what to make of it.
We agree. The dim lighting in the Rio is strange.
You guys gave me a good laugh. Look at those tiny pillows hahahaha!!!!!’
Those were some tiny a$$ pillows.
My wife and I stayed there about ten years ago during the WSOP, and it was looking pretty tired even then.
WOW! Hopefully with the new owners coming in they'll bring the RIO Hotel and Casino back.
I remember the last time I went to the Voodoo Lounge, it was 40.00 per person to get in. We got up there in the middle of a weekday early evening and the entire outdoor patio was closed due to a private party (even though nobody was there). I pitched a fit and got our money back and promptly left. I haven't been back to the Rio since. It wasn't bad in the 90s but that property is about done.
We stayed there last August. Glad our room didn’t smell like smoke, but I was disappointed, that their website showed all the places open, which were not. I was there before when they had the masquerade parade it was so lively. Hope, it will be better once the changes are implemented…
Sorry you had a disappointing stay. Yikes! YES so lively back then. We are hoping that they get back into the swing of things once the new owners get in there! 🤞 Thanks Christine for your comment.
Voodoo steak was really good. I went about 5 or 6 years ago.
Did you guys make it to scotch 80 prime at the Palms before it closed? It is my favorite steakhouse in vegas! Hopefully you guys are able to give it a try and it's the same quality as it was before it closed down. Would love to hear your review on it!
Hey I was just looking at your blog on the Rio did it have a buffet this is David from Atlanta
Thanks for watching David! No, the Rio didn’t have a buffet open when we visited
They used to have sky floats in the air, where you could throw beads to those below.
@ 7:50 of the video
We missed each other in June but September were not! See you guys in SEPT! TURNNN IT UP WORLD 🌎!!!!
Nice video
The Rio used to have one of best buffets years ago.
💯
always wanted to "Watch" people ride that Zipline to and fro....and enjoy the VooDoo Lounge... sad to see it so old and empty... Thanx for the honest review... Well you two pretty much always give honesty in your reviews... Peace!!
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video. Hopefully they'll get a makeover for revival once the new owners get in there. 🙏
Those tracks on the ceiling used to be for a Mardi Gras style parade in the sky back in the day. Floats would come by with folks in Mardi Gras style costumes and they would throw necklaces down to the crowd on the casino floor like in New Orleans. This was back in the glory days of the rio in the 90’s and early 2000’s like you said. Used to be a fun hotel back then. Also, they used to have the most popular seafood buffet on the strip. One more fun fact, Prince used to have a residency at the Rio!!!
One correction…I should’ve said a carnival style parade in the sky like in Rio de Janeiro.
when did you record this visit? It would be nice if the date you visited was added on to the synopsis or summary of the video.
Sad is right. I remember the glory days. A fun vibrant place. A friend and I got to be in the ride in the sky show. VooDoo Lounge was nice but best part is the Strip view. Can only hope it comes to life again someday.
Totally agree. Hopefully it will come to life again. Thanks Carol for sharing that experience.
@@TurnItUpWorld So is the Voodoo Lounge closed and that's it? It sure seems that way. 😥
I have stayed at the Rio many times but not lately. It was getting run down and when the had a shuttle to and from the strip every hour or 1/2 hour, it really overcame the distance problem. The rooms are bigger which is nice and the pools are great. The table games are great, the people working on them are wonderful, and I have had great luck with the servers. I have seen many restaurants come and go which is sad. They will rise up again to some level of glory but I feel very strongly that they need the shuttle back to close the gap. You can grab a shuttle at the Gold Coast across the street but it's and additional hassle. I would look forward to getting back there as it was great to have some great gaming and people at the hotel I was staying at.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience at the Rio, we appreciate it!
I was actually going to do the Voo Doo Zip line attraction at the Rio the last time I was in Vegas with some friends but once we took one look at it and how its set up we immediately changed our minds.
🥺
We were a bit nervous as well. There were folks riding it when we went to visit the area and they seemed to have a good time. We're a bit chicken at the moment to ride that. LOL! Thanks for watching. We appreciate that.
@@TurnItUpWorld You are welcome.🥰 And I understand. We just could not do it. We did the Slotzilla Zip at Fremont and had a blast though. It felt safer too. By the way, I'm a huge fan. I actually live 90 minutes from Vegas in Bullhead City AZ and I am directly across from Laughlin. You two need to do a Laughlin video one of these days. 👍😉
I did the Rio Zipline back in October 21 and it was ok... They only strap you in with a seatbelt and you're going 34 mph at 500 feet in the air so it can be a bit nerve racking... Especially when the other Zips in Vegas is less than 200 feet in the air
Guys you lucked out with Voodoo Steakhouse. It was a let down when we went 2018 excited to try this place. The views where spectacular though. We enjoy your videos and I look forward to the bed test. We stayed at a hotel near my mom recently and I said something about the bed not feeling very comfortable. My husband said so "It didn't pass the bed test"? I thought you guys would get a kick out of that hehe.
Great story Traci! Needs to pass the bed test lol! Thanks for the Voodoo Steakhouse tip!
We are here now. Huge suite, 2 bedrooms 2100 square ft. 39th floor.
Amazing view but room is dated and feels dirty.
However, 4 nights 3 people all in for $1300 so pretty cheap.
Now, main shower bad draining but they fixed it.
There is no room service and most of the restaurants are closed which makes the open ones crowded. 30 minute wait just for Starbucks.
Casino slots are not loose. Housekeeping is amazing but other employees in short supply. EVERYTHING is very expensive (2 Starbucks drinks normally $9 here $17. Drinks $16 if you aren't actively gambling.
Was it ok... yes but would not stay here again... No!
check out green valley Ranch or The M
Gambling 🎰 and getting free Heinekens was so fun back in the day! And crazy dancers everywhere, it was really wild and fun!
It really was. Hopefully they'll get a chance to bring it back under the new ownership. 🙏
Rio is like a 2001 used Lexus. It’s a good car but it’s got hellaaaaa miles.
Good view of the strip on Rio Hotel
I wanted to see the pool (not just a view from the hotel room). Was it closed?
Do they still have the mardi gras party that's suspended from the ceiling in the casino.
we did the Zipline there😊
It is sad to see the Rio go downhill it really needs a good update.....they used to have one of the best seafood buffets in vegas.
Last stayed at the Rio around 12 years ago when it was still great. Went to visit the casino in 2019 and it was really empty. It wasn't the way it used to be. Miss the Masquerade Show in the Sky and the great music and entertainment.
We agree Yvonne, it’s a shame it has been so neglected.
@@TurnItUpWorld Yes. I celebrated my 40th birthday at Voo Doo Steakhouse and Voo Doo Nightclub too.
I DON'T THINK I WOULD EVER STAY THERE, IT LOOKS TO OLD AND DARK. THANKS FOR SHARING, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. SO FUNNY 😁
Thanks for sharing Tracey! Hopefully the new owners will make RIO bright again. 🙏
I booked a trip to Vegas and booked the same hotel… how did you guys get up to the roof ?
Loved Rio, but it's been a long time since I have been there. Such a shame; it was great twenty years ago 😢
It really was. Fingers crossed that they can revive this place so many loved and enjoyed.
Thanks for the review. Spot on ! The view of the Strip from the roof is cool but the problem with the Rio is it’s so far away from the Strip. And I agree, it’s very dated and tired. It is low priced. But I felt being away from all the action on the Strip wasn’t worth it. If you want a cheap tired place but on the Strip, go to Excalibur. But it’s good there are low priced places like the Rio, so Vegas can be more affordable.
It's actually not that far from the strip. 25 min walk.
@@92retsekoj which includes maneuvering past interstate on and off ramps. 25 minutes is a bit over a mile and, depending on the time of years, that can become very tiring.
@@mmasque2052 if all your activities are on the strip then it's not a good option. Just saying it reasonably close to the strip for an off strip property.
I respectfully disagree that it's far from the Strip (just a ten minute walk for me).........................but where I will agree is that it still feels isolated by Vegas standards.
Once Palms reopens later this month, it will be less noticeable. But it's easy feeling you're detached from where the action is being at Rio, even if it's still pretty close to the Strip.
I was in Vegas on July 4th, 21. My sister and I wanted to stop by there for breakfast on our way back home. There where no cars in the garage. As we walked in there was no people inside except for one gentleman playing the shot machines by himself. All the restaurants where closed. It's was like a ghost town. Now is the time whoever owns it to do a major remodel.
Agreed. Hopefully the new owners once they get in there brings RIO back to its golden days. 🤞
I stayed at the Rio almost 25 years ago when I got married (not my first). We really loved the suite with a great view. It was pretty exciting with the overhead entertainment, throwing Mardi Gras necklaces into the crowd. Lots of music and things going on. Looks kind of sad and boring now.
Congrats on your 25 years Sherrell. Yes so much history at RIO and also it really was quite the scene to be at. Hopefully once the new owners gets going they bring the party back to RIO.
I stayed there in 1991 when I got married too !
I’ve stayed at rio . The plumbing pipes in the room are too loud . Smash burger went out of business in chino hills.
I love ur camera ! what do you guys use??
Hi Brandon, If you go to the description page of this video . Tap where it’s says Gear and More . You will be taken to a site where you can get more info 📸
@@TracyJ4418 thank you soo much i was looking there and didn't see it, but ill try again and follow ur directions :)
Wow, I was shocked how the Rio declined. Nice to find out there are new owners and hope they can bring it back to a fantastic place.
BTW how do I get the new emoji for you?
Thanks for watching Joyce. We were pretty surprised by our visit. Hoping that with the new ownership that they'll eventually get the RIO in order. The custom emoji's are here - czcams.com/channels/i2FBE-hrQcu08QGNKIgeeQ.htmljoin
I wish i could see this place on Undercover Boss
That was an expensive dated Hotel. They know they have a smoke problem and it's possible that they have air filters available but you need to ask. Can you imagine how someone with asthma would handle this and it's not an uncommon illness.
Dave and Tanya I am really concerned about my June reservation here in June 2022. Yes or No Way????
Hi Marianna. When we stayed at the Rio many things were still closed and it seemed like it hasn’t been renovated in years. We’re looking forward to seeing what Hilton does to revive the Rio but currently not at the moment!
i would stay there for the views, they are nice, it's obviously a low budget property at this point with so much potential
The views are really nice, but the property really needs some investment! Do you have a favorite place to stay in Las Vegas?
So sad to see the current dilapidated condition of this once really nice hotel 😂 . I have lots of good memories here. Thx for sharing this video with us
Thanks Donna, yes we feel the same way!
The Caesars stock price didn't go up by using detergents. I'm also looking at you, Circus Circus.
Is The KISS Mini Golf course still there?
