There’s no band like the Talking Heads. They have such a wry sense of humor and intelligence and silliness, too. Quirky and odd and innovative but also really successful and loved.
Agree!
Got to react to road to nowhere my favorite talking heads song
Talking heads is the shit.
Never payed much attention to them growing up, born in 82. When Phish covered Remain in Light 10/31/96. Became a huge fan.
Overall I agree, but silly is NEVER a word I would use.
The Talking Heads were performance artists. They were musical theater. If you look and listen to them as just another music group then you miss what they really are.
Yes the Stop Making Sense live version ( Naive Melody ) would of showcased what the Talking Heads where like Live . I don't get the First Time Reaction Channels who watch the lyrics videos . they're missing the creativity - the essence of the 80's-90's .
You wouldn't watch lyric videos of today's artist you'd watch their official videos .
Sometimes the lyric vids are like watching them listening to a song on the radio.......ZZzzzzzzzzzz
David Byrnes American utopia show i saw in Auckland Aotearoa new zealand it left me totally confused/ stunned/mindblown/
What had i just witnessed with my eyes and ears all i could really mumble was... that was F ing wicked i couldn't explain what was F ing wicked it just WAS
@@NATIVESUNSETS65 i think if there is any show that makes me wish 'man, if i only i was alive' would be stop making sense
"Home is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there
I come home, she lifted up her wings
I guess that this must be the place" i can't think of a better sentiment
“And She Was”. Super catchy from Talking Heads.
My first rock concert I was 14 years old and completely blown away by the talking heads
To me, their most powerful performances were from the 1983 (or 1984) film "Stop Making Sense." I highly recommend "Life During Wartime," "Girlfriend is Better," and also "Once in a Lifetime" - all from the film. I think that those live performances will blow your mind.
Greatest musical performance ever filmed. Absolutely brilliant!! I bought it on VHS when it first made its appearence, that's how long its been, and still nothing has ever even come close to its brilliance, a combination of suburb musicality, stage performance and presence. Over the past 30 years I've turned countless people on to the Stop Making Sense movie and have watched it time and time again myself, although now even though I still have that VHS I stream it from CZcams!
This is a great song. So sweet. But to really appreciate Talking Heads you've gotta catch them live... I can't remember if you've done that yet or not. But as others have said, Once in a Lifetime is a great, great song.
Talking Heads has so many wonderful songs, but Once in a Lifetime definitely needs to be next. For me it's one of their top three.
Definitely live!!
Stop Making Sense is soooooo good.
Talking Heads’ “Road to Nowhere” is a super underrated song! Definitely check out!
I agree!!
An amazing song! Love it!
The Talking Heads were big in the New Wave movement of the late 70s and early 80s. But so was Elvis Costello. And so were The Pretenders. Guys, you need to hear these two artists. For Elvis Costello, I recommend Alison, Radio Radio, What's So Funny About Peace Love and Understanding, and Everyday I Write The Book. For The Pretenders, Back on the Chain Gang, Brass In Pocket, Kid, and Thin Line Between Love and Hate.
J&A, You'll love their "Life During Wartime", "Take Me To The River", "Once In A Lifetime", "Crosseyed And Painless" and many more.
This
Found a Job, my kids love that one.
Take me to the river. 🔥 Fire
Especially Take Me to the River
Take me to the river is my favorite Talking Heads song.
This song, David Byrne said, was his only attempt at writing a love song 🎵. I think they crushed it. Naiive Melody captures all the catchiness of love songs, without being specific. Concept of home and images like "You've got a face with a view" trap me every time.
This is the greatest love song ever in my book. Top 1.
This is the greatest love song ever in my book. Top 1.
I hate to disagree with David there, but I think _The Book I Read_ from their first album is another great Byrne love song.
One of their best songs. Another great one is "Life During Wartime"
The best version of this is from the movie Stop Making Sense. My favorite performance of this song. It's amazing.
@@snakelite61 yes! It’s absolutely amazing. Every member of the band is on fire during that. Timeless
@@snakelite61 I totally agree.
My favorite song by them, and top 5 all time.
Y'all might actually like some of their live performances. They're still "quirky," but their energy and stage show and musicianship are really captivating, and David Byrne's movements and outfits live are not to be missed.
"Road to Nowhere" and "And She Was" are two of my favorite Talking Heads songs....of course they are still quirky 🤪
Both are excellent!
These two are like many others and have "wierd" or "quirky " automatically embedded in thier heads and haven't even scratched the surface of thier music catalog
"Uh-Oh Love Comes To Town" is a great one, propelled by an almost Motown-style bass part by Tina Weymouth.
one of their first singles, first song I heard from them. Thank you college radio!
Hey, you guys remember that quirky Tom Tom club song from a few weeks ago? That's Tina's outside group.
@@beverlydiehl8272 yes, Tina & Chris
Talking Heads are so good. One of the best new wave groups ever. I have not seen that video since I was a child! '80s jaja thank you. I agree they can do any style. Funk, punk, dance pop, everything. Also world music, ska/reggae tone like in this song.
the word is authentic, Byrne is a true artist
Listen to this song a few more times while you go about your everyday life. It will get into your head and soul. Very catchy.
I fell in the with this song the first time I heard it in a movie in which two guys were talking on a boat. I don't even know the name of the movie; but I had to find this song. I really love the line which says, "Before we were born somebody said, "this is where I'll be.".... this so true how many of us are still in the city, town, and state in which we were born.
What you guys want is "Life During Wartime" or "Once in a Lifetime." and their cover of "take Me to the River:"
FROM The live STOP MAKING SENSE concert film. AGAIN what the whole film it is the best concert film ever. He is the definition of quirky
Agreed. Please react to these songs but from the live concert. The performances are amazing
@@coreym0 yes! Agree. As long as i’ve been checking these guys’ reactions this has been one of my wish-list ones.
David Byrne always said that he thought it was more important to sound like you meant the words you were singing than to have a "good voice" - maybe that's what you guys were picking up on! Hope you decide to delve into more Talking Heads!
MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG EVER!!! WILL ALWAYS PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE!!
This is my favorite Talking Head song. Joyous and sweet
talking in tongues is one of those entire albums thats great!
Definitely one of their best songs, love the Talking Heads. Love you guys!!!
My husband absolutely loves Talking Heads.
They are pretty cool.
When I was a kid, Burning Down The House was my favorite Talking Heads song. Now that I’m an adult, This Must Be The Place is my favorite.
Burning Down the House was our kids’ favorite song by Talking Heads. (Showing my age here.)
@@debrabeck9630 Mom?
Grandmother
But, LOL!
@@debrabeck9630 I’m 50. Old enough to remember hearing Talking Heads on the radio.
My favorite Talking Heads song! Thanks for sharing this.
David Byrne belongs to a long tradition of songwriters who can't actually sing very well, but they do anyway, because it's their song and they need to express the lyrics in their own way. Although his singing has improved a lot over his career, Byrne in particular makes his unconventional voice part of the style of his songs. You have to listen to _Once In a Lifetime_ for a particularly striking example of that. For another more happy, upbeat Talking Heads song check out _And She Was._
This is one of their less strange works. Straight forward, melancholy, and beautiful.
This song feels like being in love. Making coffee, sweeping the living room. Such a timeless classic.
Next- Once In A Lifetime.
I second this
"And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile..." I think I can still sing every lyric from memory! Of course most of it is "Same as it ever was..."
When it comes to Talking Heads, I think "Once In A Lifetime" is a song that's more in line with the Talking Heads sound you've liked in the past. "Wild Life" is also a good one from them that is super catchy and which, while different than some of the other TH songs you've heard, has a sound I think you'd enjoy.
I love the Talking Heads because they are different. Sometimes you just need something out of the ordinary to shake things up.
Other great songs by them are "Life During Wartime", "And She Was", "Girlfriend is Better", "Drugs", " Once In A Lifetime " or "Electric Guitar". There are many more, but this will get you started.
😃
I’m so glad you both are getting into more talking heads!
I absolutely LOVE The Talking Heads, but I’d never seen this video. Psycho Killer and Life During Wartime are probably my favorites. Thanks for a great reaction! (Btw, April 2 is the birthday of both Marvin Gaye and Leon Russell. I’d love to hear your reaction to a song by Russell, and I think you’d like Stranger in a Strange Land.)
And Emmylou Harris
@@bradd8937 Thank you. I had no idea the 2nd was Emmlou’s birthday, too. She’s marvelous!m
Check out the talking heads - life during wartime
"Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view"
Is some of my favorite lyrics in any song.
I like their song "Life During wartime"
One of the hardest things to do is try to describe Talking Heads music.
this is my favrite song of theirs ~ talking heads can go in no category but their own ~ such a beautiful melody ~
One of the most unique and amazing bands. So good
This imo is one of the best love songs written. “I’m just an animal looking for a home and share the same space for a minute or too, and you’ll love me till my heart stops, love me till I’m dead!”
I've never seen this one before. I thought for second that women next to him was going to imitate his movements. That would have been fun to see. Oh well it still was good to see. I enjoyed this.
I also love Once in a Lifetime by Talking Heads.
"Life During Wartime" would satisfy your Talking Heads itch.
One of the most beautiful touching lines in a song is "I'll love you til my heart stops, love you til I'm dead".
My favorite Heads song!! Thanks for reacting! I hope you will do "Once In a Lifetime", "And She Was", and "Road to Nowhere" next! And to refresh your memory - the blonde in this video, Tina Weymouth, was the vocalist for the Tom Tom Club, who did "Genius of Love". The lead singer's name is David Byrne, and he is a true musical icon.
"And She Was" is another great, fun, melodic Talking Heads song.
I love The Talking Heads! They had so many great songs like, Once In A Lifetime, is a must!
This song was in the 80's movie: Wall Street, with Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen, Martin Sheen, Terence Stamp, Daryl Hannah, and Directed by Oliver Stone. Great 80's movie!!
The Talking Heads “Nothing but Flowers” is one of my favorites.
This is one of my favorite love songs.
i bought this album simply because of this song! so good!
He has great vocal control
The Talking Heads are eclectic, quirky, and uniquely genius. Clearly one of the best bands to breakout in the 80's. Their live shows (documented in the movie, Stop Making Sense) really showcases their brilliance on stage.
The look on your faces will be Priceless..... "TIME HAS COME TODAY" - The Chambers Brothers. Album long version... PLEASE and Thank You. Have a Spectacular Day
Add this mark cowbell!!!
One of my favorite lines from any song... "Out of all those kinds of people, you got a face with a view." Think about it.
This is my favorite song by these guys. My brother and I would listen to them driving to the clubs in Denver.
Also, the words speak to me....
Great and unique that’s the talking heads to me I love once in a life time, wild life and she was are great ones to listen to
‘And She Was’ and ‘Take Me to the River’ were some of my favorites from Talking Heads.
You need to watch their live concert “Stop Making Sense” , it’s a cult classic now. You’ll be so impressed with their show.
When kids in art school get into music you get Talking Heads or Lady Gaga...musicians who forge their own style.
this is one pf the most beautiful songs ever written
Talking Heads made the '80s tolerable with the preponderance of disco at the time. God bless David Byrne.
Do the LIVE of them doing "Born Under Punches" in Rome 1980!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes. The studio version is OK, but the live one rocks!
That and Crosseyed And Painless from Rome 1980 as well..
Maaaaaan they ain't ready for that. Here's hoping though! That's one of my favorites.
A very sweet love song at the end of one of their best albums. The lyrics are worth reading.
One of my favourite bands.
Burning down the house, Road to nowhere, once in a lifetime, psycho killer, and she was, take me to the river… all bangers!
I like this song but I would have totally chosen "Once in a Lifetime" next. You guys haven't responded to General Public "Tenderness" or ABC "The Look of Love". 2 awesome 80's songs from new bands you haven't heard yet.
yes!! ABC "The Look Of Love" or "Poison Arrow"
Also "Be Near Me".
It's real and honest . That's why the music is appealing . Able to be yourself and don't be afraid to express that and others will follow
"Little Creatures" Great albumn! still listen to it often. "Naked" great too.
"Stop Making Sense" is a music concert video movie. It opens with "Psycho Killer" and adds a band member with each song after that until the whole band is on stage. The amount of energy given off during that concert is amazing. Cocaine is a helluva drug.
I first heard this song in the film, "Wallstreet". Love it.
You may enjoy, Talking Heads - "Road to Nowhere".
David Byrne wrote, directed, and starred in a film, called "True Stories", with John Goodman, and Swoosie Kurtz.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
When U think it's from 80's pretty cool stuff.Takes me back to that period of my life ... absolutely loved them
Talking heads I took for granted. They were always there on the MTV
Live is the way to watch them! Love that you y’all are loving them!!
Bernie Worrell on keyboards. Song appears in the movie Wall Street. Great reaction!
Shawn Colvin does a great cover of this. One of her favorite lines and mine too is “Out of all those kind of people, you got a face with a view.”
And so does Miles Fisher with a completely different vibe!
This song is so calming and soothing. I love the talking heads so much. Pure genius
"This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)" played over the ending credits of the film "Wall Street" which was an amazing film.
It is about where you end up in life, This Must Be The Place.
I walked down the aisle at my wedding to this song :) love it!
I love that it is so mellow that I have it on another playlist. Right in there with some Bob Marley and Jimmy Buffet 🥰
Omg, this whole show, Stop Making Sense, is fan-freakin-tastic. I suggest you get the dvd and pop it in when you can.
One of my favorite Talking Heads songs.
You MUST watch their concert movie Stop Making Sense. You like quirky and theatrical presentations and it gives you a triple dose.
Now, you should definitely check out the live version of this song from the Stop Making Sense concert movie! Transcend
"(Nothing But) Flowers" by Talking Heads. My fave along with "City of Dreams."
This is such a beautiful song.
David Byrne is such a great artist ❤ I can’t think of a single Talking Heads song that isn’t an artistic masterpiece in its own right.
I'd completely forgotten about this Talking Heads song. It's not one of the most dynamic ones, and it wasn't a big hit. What you guys want is "Life During Wartime" or "Once in a Lifetime."
I agree with you about this song, but I wish they had reviewed the version from the "Stop Making Sense" concert film. I think that one is much better.
If they do Life During Wartime it has to be the live version. I can see Amber doing some shoulder dancing already :D
@@misterjk
It must be the most aerobic performance ever filmed. They'd love it.
love this song😊
his voice I would describe as "mesmerizing". Love the channel thank! I love the Talking Heads! Hope you'll do more!
Once in a Lifetime and Take me to the River. Aside from the ones you've already done! They were a fav back in the days
This song was actually kind of a goof on their part. David Byrne wrote the lyrics to be as generic as possible, and each band member is playing an instrument different from their usual one. It's a gem nonetheless.
Stop Making Sense Is a terrific concert movie.
@C Summers "That's a love song made up almost completely of non sequiturs, phrases that may have a strong emotional resonance but don't have any narrative qualities." That's what i was referring to. Maybe generic was the wrong word. But to me the pithiness is what gives it it's charm anyway. There's little elaboration.
My favorite Talking Head song...David Byrne in his giant suit...1980's memories❤
I'm just an animal looking for a home to share the space for a minute or two and I'll love you till my heart stops
Love you till I'm dead.
Best line ever written!
