I had this same surgery 20 years ago when I was 35yo. I thought I was taking it easy but I really wasn’t and I ended up re-herniating that same disc 2 weeks later. Make sure you follow doctors instructions. You walk a lot and that will help you; just don’t strained yourself.
Maybe have Amber come babysit you for a few days after surgery. She seems like a well level headed gal. I'm sure she would be there for ya. I wish you all the best, Matthew.

Well I do feel your pain! Had identical surgery in July and being 400k's from hospital I stayed overnight. Was up and about the day post surgery and felt great. Late in the day, however, my sciatic nerve decided to remind me of what agony is.... So back to bed and heavily sedated I slept through and was discharged the next morning. Almost every complication post-surgery is caused by doing stuff when the specialists tell you repeatedly to do nothing for 7 days at least. Have a wound check done at about day 14 and lift nothing till about week 10. So hope your surgery went well and may your sciatic nerve never bother you again. Live long and prosper etc etc.........
First- Happy Birthday!! Second, I worked a med-surge unit for years. That's a pretty successful procedure, as long as you really do take it seriously easy on your back for a few days. && PLEASE take all the pain meds they are willing to give you the first few days. Pain stresses your body and inhibits healing. If you can, it may be a good idea to bring someone with you and get a room for a few nights after you are discharged. Driving may not be comfortable for a couple days.

“Minimaly invasive” is a good thing. Recovery should be quicker. Then therapy. Give yourself time. I had a full knee replacement but I was ready to get up and go and was very impatient with myself. Maybe think about putting Lucky on ice and recover in a “sticks snd bricks” until you’re at least 80%, just a thought….good luck 🍀 and God Bless

Penny takes your seat because there is more room and no blanket which is to warm and cats stretch and over heat. Ive had many cats. suggestion. I Pray you re operation is successful.🐱🐈
Happy birthday! Anyone is nervous of surgery, it's human nature to be. I also think everyone is right. A hotel the first night after your surgery might be a better option. Take care, and both hubby and I were howling with laughter at your new pants!
@Matthew , make sure to eat some good quality protein right now while being a post-operative patient as it helps with the healing process. Drink quality water too. I've never liked it when the Healthcare industry decided to do all these "Outpatient Surgery Centers/Surgeries" when it use to be a protocol to keep a patient at least 24-hours for observation by licensed trained healthcare staff to monitor your vital signs, surgical site(s) for wound healing, help you with your activities of daily living & even receive therapies you need, like in your case physical therapy. Also, helping you toilet!!!! I hope you are recovering once discharged at a family member's home though & they can help with caring for Ms Penny 🙏 Positive thoughts for quick healing & good physical therapy if they will be providing that soon for you Matthew. Happy Birthday 🎂 & I thought you weren't going to buy anymore new clothes after purging Your "Dixxon" wardrobe a couple weeks ago 😂😂? Looks like the same Police Station from Steve's video. I have my own very different surgery, total knee replacement in a couple of weeks. Being a very compulsive OCD type as well as a retired doctor I have a pretty good idea what to expect, but watching you go thru it ahead of me is somehow comforting. I’m also nearly twice your age so it seems unfair that you have to have surgery before me. We will both do well.
I had knee replacement a year ago at 58, I was walking without any assistance in two days and back to work in a week. I had zero pain with my surgery. So I hope you have same experience. Today the surgery’s have come a long way and are less and less evasive

I was in my late 40's before my younger sister overheard me telling someone my age & telling me I wasn't that age at all. I was a year younger. Now I don't think of age at all, but sometimes catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror & think Who the hell is that old bat? Praying that you have an uneventful & full recovery. God bless!
Matthew, the last time I had an operation to calm down I told myself that the following week this matter would be behind me and it worked. It restored my calm. Weird, but it worked. Concerning your recovery time you should take a hotel in Edmonton at least for a month because after the operation you will need peace and quiet and above all a good mattress. I don't know if you will recover well lying in a Van. Take good care of Amber because this girl has 'le cœur sur la main' (kind-hearted) as we say here. I just read in the comments that you were on the operating table yesterday. I wish you a good recovery. I also wish you a happy Birthday.

Not sure if your going to see this Mathew, but I'll put it here, just in case...I know awhile back you were taking about having too many Dixxon flannels...maybe consider having a winter vanlife blanket made out of them.. People do it with t-shirts all the time... But how cool would a thicker winter blanket made out of flannels and one or a few of your vanlife plus t-shirts. If your not interested...I bet your daughter would love something like that you could include squares of pictures of you and her on your adventures 😊❤️praying your surgery goes well, and you have a speedy recovery!
My wife was born in Edmonton and has many fond memories of her years there. Her father was transferred to Ontario and that is where I met her many years ago now.
I remembered Steve's video stealth camping in the woods behind a police station. Had to go check the other, Hyundai Santa Fe wedding present from his in-laws & the no parking sign was there. 😂 Happy birthday & fast surgery recovery.

Surgery is stressful enough, forgetting your passwords over the top. Write them down somewhere before you have your surgery. Also see if they will allow you to get your meds like the day before.
I transcribed a LOT of those reports when I worked at home for the biggest Level I Trauma Center Hosposital in my area for 17 years. They now have robotic instrumentation that helps with many surgeries.

So the 1st question I have...Were the sexy comfy pants needed for the visit? So I don't know what my reaction would be if I ever went back to southern New Mexico...I know there would be a lot of anger, a night with heavy drinking requiring a week of recovery, and a lot of self doubt and self loathing. But even with all that, I can't change the past. I have no clue what the Edmonton situation was but remember- you can't change the past, you can't change people, you can only change your mindset through your actions 🤗

I live up here, and I avoid the mall like the plague. 🎉I had to have someone with me after dental surgery,😂😂 not drive ...my mom came and got me after 8 days in hospital. She took me to my house I got clothes, she took me home with her. I was there for a few days. Wobbly.

I had a similar surgery back in 2012 which included having hardware installed. Now I fear Magneto He will sense that extra metal in me in a heart beat.
I had the same problem with my Chevy Colorado as Lucky does after installing my remote starter. Every time it wouldn't start, I had to put the throttle to the floor before starting. Not to sure why! Maybe a reboot of sorts?! Happy Birthday Mathew!🎉

Brilliant video. That upcoming op seems scarey to me but i dont like hospitals and the only op ive had is adenoids and tonsils removed when i was 8 and now im almost 65. Ive been in hospital to have my babies so i would feel very strange going in hospital and not coming out with a baby. Sending you lots of love and hugs and pray your op goes very well. X x

However the op did help me but my had nerve damage. It is what it is but have to carry on so I'm wishing you well and hope all will be good 👍 😊 x

I had to have surgery a year ago, and yeah I very much understand the uncertainty but also wanting to get it the heck over with already. Don't blame you for wanting to avoid WEM either. I live up here, and I avoid the mall like the plague. Always amusing seeing folks hanging around places I'm familiar with, even with the unresolved issues. :) Hope all goes well when your surgery date arrives.

🎉I had to have someone with me after dental surgery,😂😂 not drive ...my mom came and got me after 8 days in hospital. She took me to my house I got clothes, she took me home with her. I was there for a few days. Wobbly.
Too funny. When you got out of the van I said he should see how long it takes for Penny to get in his seat. No sooner than I thought it I seen the look on your face and said Oh my, he’s reading my mind. LOL. 😝

Matthew that is the same Police Station Steve Wallis camped at in a SUV :) I had to go back and fast forward to the Police station he was at. Exactly the same building, unless it has a twin, same signs,trees, etc. lol :)

Nice shout out to another CZcamsr I look forward to watching. In fact found Steve just before the world turned silly and he kept me level headed. Wishing you a speedy recovery. I had a similar surgery back in 2012 which included having hardware installed. Now I fear Magneto He will sense that extra metal in me in a heart beat.
I had the same problem with my Chevy Colorado as Lucky does after installing my remote starter. Every time it wouldn't start, I had to put the throttle to the floor before starting. Not to sure why! Maybe a reboot of sorts?! Happy Birthday Mathew!🎉

Ask amber to help. You have done a lot for her so it would be good . And maybe you could stay in van with amber as neighbor in a campground. She could help you with penny too.

Brilliant video. That upcoming op seems scarey to me but i dont like hospitals and the only op ive had is adenoids and tonsils removed when i was 8 and now im almost 65. Ive been in hospital to have my babies so i would feel very strange going in hospital and not coming out with a baby. Sending you lots of love and hugs and pray your op goes very well. X x
Hi Matthew I've been watching alot of you back log vids. I've also watched your newest ones. I also have DDD had an op in my 30s in 2006 I know the pain is unreal . However the op did help me but my had nerve damage. It is what it is but have to carry on so I'm wishing you well and hope all will be good 👍 😊 x
