  • Glen Dam Reservoir near Paisley, which is a non-drinking water reservoir, became a dumping ground for cars in the 1990s. Scottish Water, which is responsible for the reservoir, decided to remove the dumped cars - nine in total - for public safety and environmental reasons. This is how they did it.

One of them was always going to be an Astra GTE, wasn't it?

Nice Astra GTE poking out of the water there. I bet that had a good thrashing before it went in

I can see a Nissan Prairie, Ford Mondeo, Vauxhall Astra, Fiat Uno, Citroen ax, Peugeot 605 and Rover 800.

Definitely discarded at some point during the 90s or the 00s

When I seen that Astra GTE down there a tear came to my eye. My first favourite car that was when I was a kid. Car thieves are scum of the earth

Well thank goodness they blocked out the license plate on that red Ford. 🙄

My second car was an H reg Astra Gte, it was definitely a 5 door Astra but I certainly wouldn't tell it was a GTE.

I hope those idiots will be fined who dropped their car into the reservoir. Shame...

There was a period when scrap metal was worthless. This was one way of getting rid of them without having to pay the scrap dealer.

The Peugeot 605 was only 5 years old when it was dumped in there, and the Citroen AX was 3.

shame, if they had been kept for a while more, they would be worth a lot of money, recently an astra MK1 GTE went for £26,000

@@The-Future-Is-The-Past- I suspect that with the 605, it had numerous electrical faults and because depreciation on such cars was literally measured in minutes, the owners decided to dump it there and report it stolen. They'd get more from the insurance than they'd likely get trying to resell a problematic Peugeot 605, and they'd get it quicker.
I remember when I first visited here in November 1996, at the age of 11. That car, and at least several of the others would have been there then.

Defo going to be worth building some earth or rock banks around that reservoir to stop idiots being able to dump more cars in there in the future.
