UP until the age of 12, Rafi was an energetic boy who made it his life’s mission to terrorise his three older sisters. But when he was 12, Rafi suffered a terrible stroke and haemorrhage that forced him to relearn how to walk and talk. His body was forced into locked-in syndrome. Rafi's family would initially communicate with him just by blinking eyes at one another. But over time, Rafi has re-learnt how to walk and talk - though the stroke, which was caused by an Arteriovenous malformation (AVM), has left him with long term speech issues and also some memory loss. With an incredibly positive attitude, Rafi hasn't let anything stop him and he started modelling as a teenager and also took up competitive racerunning - where competitors use a frame to race. He has no problem attracting women on Tinder but getting beyond a first date has proved more difficult. On his profile he describes himself as a 'para athlete' and uses the emoji of a walking frame to indicate he has a form of disability... How will things go with his blind date today?

White people have treated disabilities as a problem. This is just racism and Trumpism.
If a woman that meet him can’t handle what he has medically, then it was never meant to be. If they see him as a human being and just a regular person then it’s meant to be. There is alway a person out there for someone and when you least expect it that’s when It happens. I do understand women that don’t want to get involved because if they get attached to someone with a medical condition and they lose that person it’s painful.

I feel for him and his family, finding out he had a stroke at 12 yrs old is so difficult to fathom. I cant understand how scary that would be for all of them. Praying he finds his soul mate.

As a disabled man it was very Difficult to date and find women who like me for me and not be pulled back by my disability. I did find my wife and I’m very happy today.
He is a great looking guy and he has a personality that shines . I can’t imagine what it would be like to have a stroke at 12 years old that completely changed your life. She is a very sweet girl but I can tell she was very Nervous which is normal. I don’t know if she was nervous to meet him or because of the cameras were there. But even if they don’t hit it off I have a feeling they become really good friends someone that he can trust and feel comfortable talking to . I wish him the best 👍🏻

That's awesome you found your wife. I have a lot of different issues and never thought I'd find someone. Completely gave up. Then I met her in the most random way, on a Facebook post with a million comments. We started talking and we haven't stopped, and it's been a year and a half. Lol. I don't see us stopping! She does have some of her own mental health issues as well so, we get each other like that.
He is a very fine young man yet you can see the disgust in her face. Imagine if in addition to the mobility issues, he was short and had a very warped face.

If this is the first time you have to understand a bunch of cameras in your face plus lighting and a whole film crew can be extremely intimidating especially on a first date.

What happen to him is not his fault and he couldn’t control, no one is perfect, every one has a flaw . To accept that and be able to get to know someone for their soul can be an amazing thing .

I hope that this generation behind me (I'm a millennial so whichever one is after me) is becoming more patient, kind, and tolerant as they are demanding this from the outside world. Rafi seems to be very kind and is not letting his disability define his abilities. I hope and pray that he is able to find a partner that is patient, kind, and understanding of others. I have cerebral palsy, and I can FEEL every second of this. The chance for rejection is sooooo much higher. You're intellectually aware that you are disabled; but your heart doesn't care. It just wants to be loved and to be found attractive by someone that you find equally attractive. I hope he's found someone.

I know how you feel I’m the same way . your personality will aways be the biggest part of yourself. So if people only See your disability then they’re not your friends just ignore them and move on to people that accept you for you. It works I promise .

Within the first few minutes of hearing this amazing young man talk I found myself praying that the good Lord blesses him in life. He has such a wonderful disposition and outlook on life. I hope he finds love and a partner in life who’ll realize how blessed she is to have him in her life.
I have a disability and I been rejected all my life because of my condition so I stop trying dating . I've been alone for 15 plus years now. At first it bothered me being alone but after a while it doesn't bother me anymore.

Yeah its very rare to find someone when you are disabled. Took me 16 years to find someone who could accept me. You might and you might not. There is nothing wrong with being alone either.

This is inspirational my brother’s best friend’s brother had a stroke at 18 and radio you are so blessed for having the ability of being able to express your thoughts and being noble. I have a story, where can I email you? I believe our story will save alot of lives. Please contact me. This has to do with A rare form of cancer. AML Its Aggressive and terminal. My daughter is suffering from this for a little over a year. We need awareness.
He probably had an AVM, because the only reasons children have a stroke is due to an AVM. I had a AVM And I had a craniotomy done. It’s Something that you are born with and the only reason why they know you have it is when you got a stroke or they’re looking for something else and they found it.

I have a speech impediment, there are a few words I just can’t get out and have a learning disability. I truly understand how he feels, it is nervous talking to people. I’m always afraid of people hearing the way I speak or not understanding what they said. I am also trying to date and find it really hard.

His speech has been affected by the stroke so when she heard him speak she responds in a way that's caring but teacher to child however he needs adult to adult connection.
