- In this video today we're talking about Tatsuki Fujimoto's (the mangaka behind Chainsaw Man) new one-shot: Goodbye, Eri.
This one-shot really blew me away, and I want more people to read and experience it. Therefore, even if I don't go too in-depth with this little review, I had to talk about it.
Do yourself a favor, and read this.

Tatsuki Fujimoto continues to be in a class of his own with this new one shot. Please read it. It'll blow you away. (ಥ ͜ʖಥ)
Hiding away from reality in fantasy
When I read it the first time I felt like it took less time than any other new chapter even though it was over 100 pages long. Fujimoto is a miracle worker to create a manga this phenomenally easy to read but so difficult to fully understand. Goodbye, Eri is one of the only times I like ambiguity in the story like this because, to me, it doesn't take away from the themes or characterization.
100 pages?
100 pages??? What
This one shot would make for an amazing animated short if given to the right people to make it. Potentially Oscar worthy.
I agree it was crazy good
it feels amazing to see how every pannel looks like its a screenshot from an anime. Its all landscape and through out the 195 pages, nothing is paneled vertically. The whole thing made me laugh, cry, rethink my life, before laughing again. The "ending" made me thought, "Oh... nevermind.. it's THIS kind of manga..." but finding out the true end made me realize, this whole story line, this whole manga is SUCH a yuuta story. While the one about the mother's was a less.. than ideal.. well crude example of yuuta's vision for the whole thing, eri's movie being somewhat a more tame version of his previous movie, the true end shows yuuta finally polishing his vision correctly without taming it down for the viewers. What a ride.
BABE WAKE UP 2SPOOKY POSTED!!!!
The fact that Fujimoto can make reading a manga feel like watching a movie makes his work feel totally unique to every other mangaka. While this is most present in Goodbye Eri, all his other work has it as well.
YES! Was so happy to see this pop up in my sub box haha This is a one-shot that is a lot to process with how it really blurs the line between reality & fiction. I was engaged from the start since I can relate to the film making aspect, but the story is so much more. There's the element of having an untrustworthy narrator where you get these reveals that hit hard, but down the line you wonder how much is true, what really happened, and were the characters personalities really what we thought? I still have an internal debate on if that "supernatural" aspect is true or if it is just a fantasy element added by Yuta.
The ambiguity may be frustrating to some but I friggin love it. It makes for good discussion on interpretation. You did a good job of not giving too much away to encourage everyone to read it. Hopefully we can get a deep dive in the future 👍
Man, this one-shot NEEEEEEEEEEDS to have an anime adaptation, like, a small movie or a 40 min short. But I NEED to see this ideia being brought to life in anime or even live action form (with a good director, obviously). Look Back too, but I think Good Bye Eri would fit without much effort in audiovisual format.
This was a great review/analysis! really enjoyed the video!
Great new thing to read, thanks for the recommendation Spooky
Well, you convinced me to give this manga a read, sounds like I will be in for a good read and interesting plot elements and storytelling. Thanks for sharing this manga, the video really helped to get me hype to check out the story!
This one shot was fun to read
Opposite of fun...it was melancholic
Fun? Lol, it destroyed me inside out
@@Mania_TBH 🤣
Love the explosion at the end
That reference was cool at the end
Thanks for this.
I read Look Back then Goodbye, Eri around the same time and Fujimoto just doesn't miss they both left me feeling empty and great at the same time plus that ending was wow
One thing I can say is the background art looks really good
This manga was truly an enjoyable read. The entire time I was waiting for the big out of left field twist that he seems to incorporate. I'll say it didn't disappoint, making the entire thing even more thought provoking
I read the manga too and i never would have imagined how much i would relate with the crowd at the end of his first movie
One of the best "found footage" like movies without being a movie. ✌️
I was planning on reading the one shot once it came out because at the time I recently finished chainsaw man but I put it off and forgot about, until I saw your video thumbnail and I was lile "Welp now I'm reading it" and man did it mess with brain there so much twists a twizzler looked straight. My mind is still numb from the one shot. Either way good review hope to see more in the future
thank you so much for putting me on spook! you the goat bro
Man, its like meta commentary of Fujimotos work itself
Bro it was amazing
How about that funko collection? 😁
This was such an absolutely insane manga and just.... yeah... You know.
That explosion at the end 🤣🤣🤣
this was an absolute masterpiece. holy. f**k.
hes alive
Nice one Spooks, also, when is OP D&D coming back?
Ending with an explosion, nice💀
Pog.

Hey spooky when are you making that top 10 strongest non-devil fruit users?

Explain the siders and the dark siders in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D
Goodbye, Eri reminded me a lot of the Satoshi Kon movie, Millennium Actress. That movie is basically a movie within a movie that blurs the lines between reality and fiction. Id say watch it if you liked Goodbye, Eri
"From the valley of the dead".
This manga hit different
The ending fked me up im not sure if i like it as much as i did when i was only half way through it 😅
Might i ask where u read this manga?
wait how come this video only has 7k views?
the number just doesn't add up.
You gotta check out "look back" also. He did that one shot before this one and in my opinion its very very slightly better than this one. Read it!
Just read it! It's amazing. Much better than chainsaw-man, whihc I got into on reocmmendation, but never particularly enjoyed.
Sayonara Eri is the quintessential evolution of Tatsuki Fujimoto's manga
I wouldn't make the comparison though, this is a one-shot with different themes after all
I wouldn't be surprised if his next manga has a hidden Raid: Shadow Legends joke
I just wanted to say hi.
I’m first. I’ve never been first.
no your not
@@ethanbrown9813 ok… when I made the comment there were no other comments so I would assume I was first. Jesus
@@derrickfrazier5042 sorry.

The viz app has this one for free!

Can you please do 101 facts about beyblade burst since the series just ended?
What is a one shot?
A one shot basically is just one really long manga chapter we’re an entire story is told.
@@henilememe7130 ty so much, I’ve never heard of that
PagMan
def seems better than chainsawman, but that isn't saying much
Seems kinda boring to me
Sounds terrible
