- In this video, I explain what a PSMA PET scan is and why someone might need a PSMA PET scan. It is ideal for med students and for newly qualified doctors who need a refresher on urology.
PSMA or prostate specific membrane antigen is an enzyme that is overexpressed in prostate cancer cells. (Gallium) PSMA PET scans are used for staging and treatment of prostate cancer (Lutetium).

Could help me understand the difference between psma-617 and psma-1007? Thanks in advance
Hi Mohamed, PSMA-617 is frequently bound to Lutetium which can be used to treat metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. PSMA-1007 on the other hand is frequently labeled with the radioisotope F18, which is mainly used to diagnose prostate cancer lesions (but not to treat it). Hope this is clear. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
