Anita, you are absolutely, hands down the best CZcams sewing instructor!!!! You explain everything. When you come up on a difficult area (sewing over the hump) you don't ignore it, you address it. It's those little bits that elevate our sewing skills. The tip about placing the interfacing on the hem, PRICELESS! Now I know how to avoid my wavy hem when I sew my next knit project.
So glad to have you back! And you did a wonderful job recording alone! May God continue to bless and keep you!
I learned so much about sewing sweaters with your video!! Before this I wouldnât have ever attempted it. Thank you, Anita!!!

Thank you for the tutorial. I've always wanted to sew a sweater. I'm able to knit one but have never sewed a sweater.
I appreciate your quick reply. Thanks again.
So nice to have you back!
Very interesting video. I love your sweater. It looks great on you. It is fun to see how methods for sewing knits, are so different. I used quilt bat fuse - cut into narrow strips to put in place of the elastic. It secures the knit in place and prevents stretch in that area where I don't want any stretch at al, because as you wear the sweater the shoulders can start to sag. I never press sweater knit fabrics because it flattens the stitch definition and fluffiness of the the knit fabric, the only exception being my card method of hem marking . I always insert my neck before adding the sleeves to prevent drag and pull on the garment and generally having to deal with all that bulk, while inserting the neck- which is the most difficult part of the project. I cut a piece of card the width of the hem I want to create and before I sew the side seams I use it as a guide and press the fabric up over it on the wrong side, of what will be the inside of the garment. This way I can protect the front side of the knit from the pressing and squashing the knit. I never use steam for the same reason. Next, I do the same, making the hem press marks with card for the sleeves - then I sew the side seams. It is easier getting the hems positioned in place right when they are still flat. I use a wide double needle for knit fabrics and a long stitch length of 3 or 3.5 to prevent stretching and pulling, and sew the hems up, making a nice stitch finish on the front hem and sleeve hems. Finished. Looking forward to more of your videos.
These are GREAT tips! Thank you so much for sharing. Yeah, I know some people don't press sweater knits. I've always pressed mine and haven't had any issues. But, yes, I hear you on the issue off flattening the fluffiness. Just haven't experienced that yet. I think if I were to use a specialty knit or something with a high loft, then maybe I would consider not pressing. But I would test it first to see if pressing would harm the fabric. Yes, we're all quite different in our sewing techniques. That's one of the things I love about sewing and learning from others.
That sweater looked darling! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Beautiful sweater!
Thank you! đ
Thanks for sharing this tutorial. I learned a lot ! I happen to have this pattern in my stash, I feel so inspired to sew it now. đ
