Mike talks old school but the work he produces is so well done. He really has a vast knowledge of the whole trade. So good to listen to a true master.
Thanks Ian, I appreciate the kind words , Mike
Outstanding Mike, and we use a fiber mesh -- like the mess for dryvit systems, etc... they now have a history of not allowing the cracks to mirror through. Anything to break the bond or rather bridge the joint you do not want to transition to the top surface... But, that fabric you use will also stop the crack from transfer above. Once again, I really enjoy watching you work... Keep up the awesome work... and of course I have to add, get some knee pads (yes, they fall down but they do not wear down like a knee cap), and of course a mask and safety glasses. (This does not take away from me enjoying your work and sharing in with a positive comment.)
Excellent work my friend!!!🤙🏼💪🏼
You are the MAN!!!!!!!
Skills like yours is unseen today!!!!
Thanks again, William
Thanks mike as an apprentice cement mason I knew tricks for patch and repair that would surprise people but I never told them I learned from your channel .

Thanks Don, still have more in the making, mike
very nice and that facing it gives it the feeling its bolders and not slabs of stone
thanks, it was the way I was taught, though I seen other styles that were good also, I appreciate it. mike
Is a concrete footer when you wade through the wet concrete in boots? Lol. This dude is a legend
Thanks, Mike
Great video showing all the steps of the process. I have a raised patio with sitting wall project I am planning. I wish you did work up in NW PA, this is exactly what I want. I have just started watching your videos ... very informative.
thanks, I hope it helps. mike
I enjoyed this video.
thanks, I appreciate it. mike
Wow,,,alot of work,,,Mike makes it look easy,,,he knows what he is doing,,,the white picket fence hides the artisan work,,,the rock artistry is the main attraction
thanks , sometimes I cant see the forest for the trees. thanks mike
awesome work
thanks, I try and throw in some techniques I use. mike
How thick was your concrete footer? The one that was 42" down?. Also, what type of concrete did you use?
Amazing videos! Thank you so much!
LOOKING GOOD AND SOLID MIKE!... ( knee pads..mask)
thanks M D, I appreciate it. mike
It would be helpful ....
A video on expansion joints, where to not detach for movement, when and where to use rebar and screen, when to use chairs with wire...
Hi George, masonry is not black and white, you built to suit the situation, all my videos I showed what I did for that situation and every part of the country is different, thanks Mike
Great video! Great tips!
thanks, I hope it helps, mike
Mike, I have a project. I have a dry set blue stone patio I want cemented in. Are you available to consult on this job?
V Brown I appreciate the offer, but being a one man band I have all I could handle. thanks again. mike
excellent video
thanks, Mike
Mike you’re the best. Only wish you were
My neighbor. You’d never pay for a beer or meal again. 😉👍
Thanks Rob, mike
Hey Mike. Nice work on showing the details on how to lay stone. You must have some tough hands working with concrete blocks and stone all day long without gloves (smiling). Keep up the good work!
yea, my dad was 75 and still laying block, lot stronger than me, I try and stay away from the heavy jobs. and I don't really take them anymore and won't work the winters. but some I will do just for the videos. got to start practicing retiring, lol. thanks mike
Mike Haduck Hey retiring....that's been on my mind too. Take care Mike...
Hey Mike could I do this around a formed concrete set of stairs?
Dude that’s primo work mike excellent job!!! I need to go and work for you so I can learn what you know 😆
Thanks waldemar, Mike
Your very welcome I like your work style hard worker
Another great job, Mike. Solid. Interesting comment regarding the inspector. I'm assuming it was a joke. Here in Orange County, CA, permit fees are paid at the Building Dept. The only thing the inspector does is either say you have to make corrections, or gives you an "atta boy" and a pat on the back. ;o)
Hi, it' really great to watch your videos. I learn a lot and I appreciate it very much. Beeing an amateur I wonder; if water comes into this porch (over time), does it have some way to get out?
klydolph2 I knew there was going to be a roof over it. and it all depends on soil conditions. and drainage, I can't see it retain water like a swimming pool. it didn't build it to. thanks mike
Hello Sir, great video and you are very informative. I hope you are having growing success with your CZcams channel! On to my question now. I am planning on building a very similar porch for my bedroom to my backyard (9x7.5ft). I wonder if I have to dig as deep as you did. Can you recommend any good books for my project?
Hi Jesse, I would ask the local inspector so that you comply with area codes, thanks mike
possibly on cement flooring?
I wish masons as good as you existed in SoCal. Seems like most do only concrete, pavers and brick here... I really want a flagstone renovation to replace all my bricks... but good flagstone masons is rare here :(
Hi, stone masons are fast becoming a thing of the past, your right concrete is taking over the whole industry, that’s the way it is, times are changing, thanks, Mike
Another good video, thank you! Do you recommend any kind of sealer?
Hi Jim,, in this case the porch is covered, sometimes sealers make it slippery in the winter, everything depends, thanks mike
Do you do work in the King of Prussia area?
I want this for my house
Thanks, mike
Great work! Can you tell us about how much this cost? I'm interested in looking into this a bit more for my own place.
hi A, I so not say prices over the internet, everything in every section of the country is different and prices vary, I hope it helps, thanks mike
I have a mobile home and I want my porch just like the video!! With its more better fill with dirt and rocks or just gravel? Please respond!!. :)))
Ho L, I can not say because every area and situation is different, I would ask and see what the locals are doing in your area first, thanks mike
Hello Mike, I love your videos ....Just wondering why you have to dig so deep 42 inches to lay the blocks to fill with gravel before the concrete slab?
Hi Terry, in our area it is code and required because of how deep the frost goes, thanks mike
@@MikeHaduck Thanks Mike. Fascinating how the frost can impact so deeply. We dont have frosts where Im at. So good to have that understanding.
I need to resurface a rain damage pour on parking ,can u tell me pls if it can be resurface 2mm to and finish it broom using sand n portland ? all the best 🏅
Hi Rogie, I did some videos on resurfacing concrete, it usually works for a year or so, everything depends on how bad it is, thanks
Would you ever build something like that using deck pans instead of gravel filler?
Hi Clemuns, I have a video called " concrete porch with deck pans" in that case i would pour the concrete top over the deck pans and then later stone would go on top of concrete,
I know this video is several year's old, but had a question that I can't find a solid answer to. That is, can the interior sub-base to a raised porch with flagstone be compacted red clay (in the south), topped with about 4 inches of compacted crush/run, topped with about an inch of compacted granite dusk, and then a metal mesh sheet laid down and then the flagstone mortared into place, and then finished with mortared joints? Does the immediate base below the mortared flagstone HAVE to be concrete?
Hi Mike, my best answer would probably be, I don't take chances and I don't want call backs so if I do it my way I dont want that worry, there are other ways but our frost and freezing weather wrecks masonry, I stick to what I know works, I hope it helps mike
Are the blocks hollow or did you fill them with concrete/mortar and rebar?
I've learned a lot.
Hi George, I did what was required by the inspector, and a some extra if I thought it necessary, thanks Mike
How were the posts, rails, spindles, etc., attached?
Hi James, the rail guy came in after me and did it, but there are ways, thanks mike
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍
thanks, mike
Beautiful work Mike! I'll never understand homeowners who paid all that money to build a gorgeous porch and then cheap out with that crap plastic looking railing. It degrades the entire porch and makes it look terribly cheap. The homeowner should have purchased a rail system that highlights the stonework... just my opinion but I see homeowners do these expensive mistakes over and over.
Hi Gregory, I understand, it is just the way it is anymore, and everyone has their own ideas,, I appreciate it. mike
Post a video of your stoop in 50 years please!
Hi PaddleDog, it has a roof over it but masonry in open weather around here 35 to 40 years average, and I will be long gone before that, I hope, thanks mike
Hi, @ 2:06 i couldn't hear the video properly. i think you said , if you fill something with gravel, it wont sink. why is that so?
Hi Mars, I think, you would have to be doing it for a while but gravel packs more solid that any other material, that is what I mean by that , also my own opinion, thanks mike
I know you are always busy. You seem like you know your stuff
Hi Dragon, I been doing it sense the 1960s, so I hope I know some, I appreciate it. mike
I see alot of guys just put a pad on top of several tube footings and build stoop off of that. The paver guys dont even do that...they'll build anything off of 6-8" base and swear it'll never move. Could you have done tube footings/pad if not why is that a no no?
Hi B2, I can't say, I am bit of old school, I never did it that way, thanks mike
wow.. looks really expensive.
I guess that's a good thing, thanks mike
Wet it and forget it .
Thanks , mike
Fantastic quality work, but what awful railings, they hide the beautiful stone work and look cheap at the same time.
Thanks Steven , I appreciate it, mike
Why don't you just do it old school if that's better?
Inspectors won't let you, thanks mike
I bought instruction from woodprix and I build it very very cheap.
