My first car was an ecoboost mustang and I genuinely loved it. Safe, good mpg, relatively cheap to work on, almost no problems to have to sink money into upkeep with, looked gorgeous, and had a very pleasing and fun yet manageable amount of power for a new driver. I know almost everyone gives it shit for not being a "real mustang" for not having a V8 but I couldn't have been happier with it. I couldn't imagine a more ideal first car for someone who wants something sporty and reliable without having to break the bank either on initial cost or upkeep costs other than maybe a 350z or gt86.

This is a great video guide. I agree with all your points. I just bought a 2016 Fit and it’s practical, gets great gas mileage, reliable, and even a little fun in the Sport Manual mode when I want it to be. And it’s cheap! Plus I have been head-first researching and learning all I can about cars in general but also my specific car and it’s been a fun ride. Fantastic advice, I think so many people mistakenly go for something fun while sacrificing reliability and practicality and can’t even appreciate the car yet anyway.

I still am on my first car and it’s a nice reliable swedish sedan (pretty slow as well) but I’ve had so few issues compared to my friend’s that jumped straight into sports cars and they’ve had blown engines and tons of failures and they are constantly in the shop with repairs or jumping to other sports cars to try and have something that works. Also don’t get a turbo as a first car if you are starting out learning on how to work on them. The complexity is a massive difference.

      True story...
      Raced a 3.9 V6 Monte Carlo vs an older 3.8 s/c Monte.
Gapped em by a door, both autos, from a dig.
Later on that same night, rolled raced a Probe GT 5speed.
It gapped me by a little more than a car. Rolled 3 other times and even a dig at a stop light.
I even tried to tree it or run a little sooner to try and get an edge. Never got close to that Mazda V-6.
Popped the hood and just saw a S.R.I. didn't even tune it . eventhough my Monte was stock I was taking out a lot of Hondas, Mustangs, Miatas, and Eclipses.
If I ever get a chance to buy a cheap one with low miles, I'll sell my car and daily that instead.

On top of the points you put out which are great. The term stupid simple is one I’d like to add. think of a first car you’re learning to work on that you can fix with simple tools! on the side of the road if necessary. my first car was a 99 ford ranger with a 5 speed trans 2wd. Can’t get much simpler than that and it taught me abt all the basics to work on any car. saved me a ton of money in the long run and now im able to afford another car and a motorcycle. still daily the ranger tho! Cant beat stupid simple

I feel this. I started with a 2011 Camry. So basically the most basic car you can get. I learned in that car and also learned about engines and maintenance. I eventually recked it but just the feeling of driving was the perfect intro to cars I wanted. So if your looking for a car. Listen to this advice. If you truly love driving then it won’t matter the car.
