This sounds like Inova Fairfax hospital where a patient can pick and choose which nurse takes care of him/her based on skin color. There are lots of stories like this one from Inova and the hospital often meets patients' requests.
Surprising that it would happen here in the DMV area. I thought with all the ethnic diversity, there would be a lot of less of this kind of behavior from patients.
Think about it: if there are racist customers in retail and the likes, those same people will display their deep rooted bigotry in healthcare even when their life is hanging in the balance.
I'm a nurse and I've never once heard this or experienced it. I've doubts this happened. If it did.. Not OK but patient choice of who gives them care. Our personal thoughts don't belong in our job.

You'd be surprised. I float to the INOVA facilities all the time, and it happens way more than you realize.
Wow that speaks volume about the organization. I hope I land a positons there! I can tell they care about their healthcare workers.
