And now you are one of the greats and a reference whose music gets "eaten " by me, and I'm 61 years old, been playing for 55 years, much of that for a living. Love these little videos, Kirk.
I like to play a full size guitar... 😉 Yessir... "in the style of"... taking little nuggets from here & there & adding them to my very limited at the time bag of tricks. Reminded of story I just read about Jimmy "Duck" Holmes. In fact, planning a trip to Betonia, MS in June! Man, looking fwd to that! Also, excellent article in Living Blues this month about some guitar slinger by the name of Kirk "Eli" Fletcher. Cool dude. Great guitarist. 😆 Keep bending them strings! ✌
I like your take on this subject. The notes are important, but the PHRASING is where it’s at! Note are like the letters, phrases are the words, and sentences. Blues very much is about a common language,. Artists who can turn a phrase in a fresh way, are the ones you can listen to all night long. Anyone who can take something simple, especially in the Blues, and make it fresh is a Genius! “Tasty” is one of my highest praises! Always love your playing...TASTY!
I used to collect baseball cards then one day I just gave them to my friend who was more into it then I was. By that time I was into guitar and didn't care about baseball cards anymore but I bet they would be worth something today. Kirk I do the same thing. I listen and get the vibe of a player but don't always go note for note. I go for the feeling. Been doing that forever but sometimes I think I should dive in and maybe learn more note for note just to get a little more out of it. Maybe some of the signature licks that have that feeling in em. Collect the vibes and feels and use them. I like it. Your a great teacher man. Love your guitar playing. Thanks for all you do.
Kirk, I love your videos! Incredible playing all styles. So much soul. Love the talks you give as well. Not just do this , do that. You explain why, and tell stories. Keep it up!
My take on blues guitar "essence": Three fundamental elements are: 1). Phrasing with rests, simulating human speech. 2). Bending notes as to make a tempered instrument sound un-tempered as is a human voice and 3). playing in tied triplet form simulating a human heart beat... What do these three things have in common...??? They are HUMAN elements. That's my take on it for what it's worth to you.
You called it Easter egg hunting and Michael Schenker called it treasure hunting. Pretty awesome that 2 great guitarists had a similar analogy for building vocab.
Kirk awesome playing.. how did you play that lick at 1:26 ? it sounded like an octive. your vids have been a blessing during this whole last year.. thank you so much.
This is a great video as usual I had asked you about your SG before you told me it was a 61 reissue 2018 my question is is it a custom shop because I can't seem to find one with the simple finish like that opposed to the Heritage Cherry that's more typical
"what makes a good blues guitarist?" is what I put in search bar
wasn't expecting a perfect result! Thanks!

Love these little videos, Kirk.
Hi Kirk, greatings from France
In simplicity is brilliance.
That is true less is more.
Great advice for any guitar player no matter how many years you've been playing. After 60 plus years of playing I still approach it this way.
Great timing always grabs attention. Not so much the amount of notes the the guitarist plays.
Simple is majestic.
Thanx, Maestro 🌹🌹🌹😎

Baseball cards - “I’ll trade you two BB King licks for that Jimmy Reed rhythm...”
Lol. That would be cool. I would collect them. But. I suppose collecting the album would work better.
You missed the Albert card in that deck as well
Thanks a lot for your lessons...ciao Kirk
What awesome advice.

I saw two of the Kings smiling behind your shoulder with some of those likes.
What I really appreciate with musician is he can be a solo artist and a rhythm guitarist..
Real sweet sound he has, love it 🍷

I love how I can hear a little bit of all your influences in your playing. From Buddy Guy to the 3 kings to Magic Sam, etc.

No it's not a custom shop one. just your standard 61 reissue 2018
@@kirkfletcher2845 That’s the one I got, Kirk. Although a 2020 61 Gibson SG.
hi kirk, could you give us some tips on playing in a swing groove?
What makes a great blues player? Whatever makes you sou d like Kirk.
In other words, “Dig deep.”
How many guitars do you have Kirk
you know
Wait, it’s not all about buying more gear?!? (Puts credit card away and logs off of Reverb...)
Musical ability would help. lol my brain wont do music, i try but fail.
You sound a bit tired/drunk at CZcams 0.5x speed. Yes, I’m on an easter egg hunt.
Any chance we can have less adds Kirk, ruins your flow + can't afford to payoff the google cartel atm
Video out of synch with sound...drives me nuts!
