- 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition' is available on Blu-ray 3D and DVD from 3rd November. Digital HD will be available in late October.
'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition' will be available as a 5-disc Blu-ray 3D set featuring the Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray versions of the 'Extended Edition'; and a 5 disc DVD. The Blu-ray 3D includes a 2D digital version of the movie on with UltraViolet.
This extended cut of the second film in 'The Hobbit' Trilogy includes 25 minutes of extra film footage that extends individual scenes, making this the must-see, definitive version for fans. Nine-plus hours of new special features boasts audio commentary with Peter Jackson, the film's director/producer/screenwriter, and Philippa Boyens, co-producer/screenwriter, as well as “The Appendices,” a multi-part documentary focusing on various aspects of the film and the Trilogy.

I was wondering what happened to this scene! I was kind of disappointed that it wasn't in the theatrical cut. Glad to see it here, at least.
I was almost certain that Bilbo was gonna fall down into the water like Frodo did in The Two Towers.

hopefully this and more stuff from the actual book will make the EE. Personally I thought all of Jackson's made up stuff was horrible in comparison to the book material. And what was up with all the direct rip off stuff from LOTR? Tauriel saving Kili, exact camera angle and effects used on Liv Tyler saving Frodo in FOTR. truly horrible script writing. The script writers need to be slapped for thinking they can improve on Tolkien
to clarify I think the parts that stuck to the source material were for the most part pretty good its just all the added completely made up material that drags the rest of it down into the toilet for me. Had they just adapted the book and the appendices material without feeling the need to rewrite great chunks of it, and making it all about the return of Sauron and the ring all over again they might have been better films. And Azog was a horrible character dead for a long time before Bilbo's adventure, Bolg would have sufficed if they needed an Orc to chase the company all over the place... Just opinion but one Alot of people share sadly enough
I was wondering what happend to the river scene in the hobbit.
It was cut out because Jackson apparently felt that fans would rather see a stupid made-up Elf/Dwarf love story than see scenes from the book.

How could that fit this scene in when they were too busy adding characters and pointless subplots.
I'm starting to get the impression that they cut out all scenes that were actually relevent to the book and the story! Why didn't they put this into the film instead of all that elf rubbish??
