The West really needs to be much much more independent in terms of manufacturing and energy, the use of our resources etc. and stop offshoring everything and buying it back in ready made form. We need to stop relying on China for manufacturing just about everything we want or need. This would also create jobs and careers in our own countries. And yes, we might have to pay a bit more for stuff, but rather than being held to ransom by the CCP, Russia etc. We also need to be much more independent in terms of food production too. Religions in America define the laws of our land or how they are targeted at poor Americans who just so happen to be pre dominately black.

After Russia fall, which they will, China will become the only superpower to keep the geopolitics in balance.
The ideal solution is to keep Hong Kong autonomy separate from China influence, treat it as a city state (a.k.a Localism, similar to Trump's America first movement), while in name still as part of China. So China won't get provoked.

The problem is that it takes *A LOT* of time to built the very complex, intricate, and massive factories that manufacture the most advanced computer chips. We're talking over 20 years to build up to the standards Taiwan is at, and that is 20 years while Taiwan is still progressing forward.
Also, it is pretty much impossible in the US because of the simple fact that semiconductors during their manufacture are massive consumers of electricity, produce pollution, and need a lot of water, which makes them a no-go with the radical eco-freaks and green movement. You would have to force California to go back to the environmental standards they had in the 1970s when Silicon Valley produced actual computer chips in the place that bear their name. Good luck with convincing the radical Cultural Marxists who ideologically align with China to give up their environmental standards which they cling to as tenants of their new environmental religion.

Australia right now needs to arm itself to the teeth. I needs a naval air defence system that can screen the northern coasts of Australia and it then needs a far reaching air defence system that can also be used to stop naval invasions.
Australia also needs to raise a large reserve military force. Right now Australia has about 30000 reserve troops when it really should have about 500,000.
Neutralizing China air power is the first step and then its ability for naval invasion. High tech air defence systems produced in the west are relatively cheap and when set up as a network can be devastating to the Chinese air assets.

In Ukraine you have a country that overwhelmingly does not want to be part of Russia and is fighting tooth and nail to try to avoid it. Cuba is a bad representation of communism seeing as their poverty is related to massive US sanctions and their leaders who are pure dictators and not actual communists.
The irony with communism/socialism is that most Western countries are more socialist than the actual professed socialist countries.
Take for example the UK's NHS. A socialist command-style institution that reeks of Marxism. And yet the British love it. In fact almost half of UK government expenditure is on social welfare, education etc.
Now consider China. A so called 'communist' state? But they're not real communists. They spend less of their annual GDP on social welfare programs than most Western countries. The CCP doesn't even provide free high school level education. The Chinese are more capitalist than the capitalists themselves...how else do you think they got so rich?
People in the West have been indoctrinated to believe that communism/socialism is evil?! But as I alluded to in the beginning most Westerners live in hybrid socialist countries and actually love communism/socialism without even realizing it.

I think we shouldn’t mix the situation in Ukraine with the situation in Taiwan. Putin was smart enough to invade before countries were obligated on paper to intervene, he gave this as reason for being opposed to Ukraine signing the NATO deal, so his threats can be taken into consideration. I’m sure the Chinese administration is aware of this, and of how an invasion of Taiwan would lead to some of the worlds greatest powers being obligated to step in. The greatest plan for them would be to wait the war out hoping it escalates to the point where the world powers are exhausted, so that it’s easier to take Taiwan relatively unopposed. So encouraging the war to go on, giving the participating parties more incentive to escalate the situation and doing this subtly is the best plan for China. It explains why they didn’t veto the sanctions levied against Russia for the invasion, remaining ‘neutral’ but also signing deals with Russia to help both economies. If they were on Russias side they’d veto the sanctions, on Europe’s side they wouldn’t do anything that helps Russia recover from the damage Europe is trying to do. Both increasing the opportunity for friendly bonds between Russia and Europe to break, increasing Russia’s urge to look for other sustaining deals and easing the damage of the sanctions themselves. These both promote war in Europe and enriches China, similar to what the US did during the Second World War that arguably had a huge effect on their current position. We should expect China to sell what it can to profit off this war to any participating side. I personally think the invasion of Taiwan is most probably set to take place after the war in Europe, and if during much later on when it becomes a proper war with multiple countries sending in troops at least. That’d be the point when China is richest it could be off the war, and the rest of the powers are exhausted as could be off the war too. I don’t see a nuclear war starting over a fight no one was obligated to take part in, but for the Chinese issue I think it could quite possibly lead to nuclear fall out. We should be keen on how much more trade occurs between China and the rest of the world, a stark increase should give more weight to this idea.

Wow these two are so off the mark. Chinas economy is not slowing down anytime soon. While they may a higher amount if debt, their savings rate is astronomical, which completely negates any risk from the debt they have. While the US has very little savings and a much higher debt load than China

I’ve been a fan of Niall Ferguson, and think he lucked out with finding his wife, but how does he explain his association with the WEF and the great reset?

Has he ever proposed a great reset?

@ bighand69 Not that I know of. I’ve long valued his perspective but don’t know how he perceives the WEF currently. His reputation does not benefit from his association with Klaus Schwab’s organization. I’m genuinely interested in his perspective.
