    Learn how to play My Best Friend's Girl, as performed by The Cars released on their debut album in 1978. Great song written by Ric Ocasek (pronounced "O-Kah-seck" by the way :-) ), and fantastic guitar arrangement betwen him and lead guitarist Elliot Easton.
    The lesson covers Ric's rhythm parts as well as all of Elliot's rhythm and leads on this song. Great variety of tones on this super fun song. Fun-fact - this song was not recorded in F but ended up that way on the record.

    The Cars weren’t IN a genre , they WERE their own genre and the only band to ever reside within it

    Nice work!
    I heard The Cars on their first American tour, in Pittsburgh at the Stanley Theater, when they opened for The Atlanta Rythmn Section.
    They played the entire first album.
    There was a lighted sign hanging over the stage that said "CARS", and when the headliners Atlanta Rythmn Section took the stage, the "C" was removed.
    The Cars were fantastic.
    They blew the headliners away so badly, that half the of the audience left during Atlanta Rythmn Section's set.
    Kind of like 1977, when AC/DC on their "High Voltage" tour opened for Ted Nugent.

    Nod to the past from "new wave" group. A lot of 50's era in there. I agree with your hearing the cuffed rake, the notes work - but the break is better. Like racers know, ya' gotta know when to use the brakes. 🤨

    I think it's good when learning solos after a few licks to go " ok so far we have rhis" rather than digesting every lick start to finish . shut up & play channel also does a great lesson on this classic.

    They didn't speed it up on purpose, it was because they went from one format to another and they knew it but just decided to leave it that speed.

    What is the function of the mic placedin front of the amp?⁰

    • @12footchain
      @12footchain  Před rokem +1

      I record signal from the amp thru the mic in addition to what my lapel mic picks up, I mix it in during editing to get it to sound closer to what I hear in the room. The lapel mic kinda darkens it up a lot and is not great fidelity.

    • @robertalan2427
      @robertalan2427 Před rokem

      @@12footchain in concert all the amps are mic'd up never knew it's function..heck even bass drums are mic'd now...back in the late 50s..60s it was a big deal when we got reverb..played second guitar and some back up vocals...in Quebec..great times.....but your break down of cars best friends girl blew me away...well done sir.

    • @12footchain
      @12footchain  Před rokem

      @robertalan2427 thank you. Yes well now, or I guess since 70s they have good live PA sound at concerts, so all the instruments get mic'd in addition to the vocal mics so it can all get pumped put thru the PA.

    • @12footchain
      @12footchain  Před rokem +1

      I explain in the beginning. Everything on the lesson here can be done capo'd at 1 and shifted up a fret. They recorded it in E. Never played it in F

    • @joeurbanowski321
      @joeurbanowski321 Před rokem +2

      Back in the day…. when the Cars recorded this.. the only way to make a taped song faster was to speed up the tape… but it bumped up the pitch.. soo… played it in E.. but now it sounds like F…
      Now,digital recordings can bump up the tempo without changing pitch.. Amazing.!
