Can you also divide in spring? I need to make some room for Dahlias and thought I might remove a row of these and put them in a drier section of the garden.
I did just that a several weeks ago. I believe I have Milleniums and they are doing just fine. The leaves will wilt and be saggy for the first two weeks but they’ll begin to perk up after that. They are all now standing tall as if they’d always been there. I even had a couple that broke apart into individual pieces. I grouped them together and planted thinking the worst and they are thriving. Not sure of where you live but I’m in the South our springs start earlier and they had already leafed out. Now if they have buds I’m not so sure if it’s a good idea. I just bought some Serendipity today and of course the nurseries force them for selling so they have several buds. I thought about doing an experiment and try to split them to see what happens but I’m afraid I’ll lose the flowers since they would need to focus on growing roots instead of more flowers. Anyways, I think you’ll be fine if it’s just leafing. Good luck and Happy planting.

Millenium has roots, not bulbs. I would like to see how you divide, say, Ambassadors, or any-big-bulbed allium.
