You look at Sommer now. Don't get me wrong, he is a pretty good goalkeeper, but he was so bad last season at Bayern. And now he is thriving with Inter. Sometimes you need the right team.
Exactly. Inter are one of Europe's top 3 teams defensively. They restricted Onana's interventions to a bare minimum.and thus made the clown look respectable. I watched him many times for Ajax, he always was a jester. A 38 year old like Pasveer was playing better!
This is the moment when I stopped believing in Ten Haag. To replace De Gea with Onana is just mental. Entire team, including manager is too toxic, we need total rebuilding.
Season after season, de Gea kept united up the table, sometimes on his own, he is an amazing keeper, i dont get why they just let him go.
Many comments on here defending Onana clearly never watched United for long. Onana's mistakes are on the level of Barthez, Howard, Carroll, Taibi lmao.
Only difference is that SAF gets rid of them or benches them when they underperform instead of constantly coddling them like Ten Hag does to Onana. Even De Gea got benched when he first arrived and was more than happy to let Lindegaard be 1st choice keeper if he continued to perform even though De Gea cost 18 million pounds to sign.
With Ten Hag, it's clear he has to keep on playing Onana to justify the 47 million pound spent. There were cheaper goalkeepers available but Ten Hag wanted "the best" and "his guy". He got it and what we have seen so far is comedic errors. For all the flak Taibi got, he only played in 4 games. Onana would have long been dropped by SAF if he was still running the club.

As an Inter fan, Onana was a good keeper because of the ethic in which keepers are trained at Inter. Inter have a long history of having had some of the best keepers even during banter periods. Onana came to Inter and if you watch pre season matches he was awful but improved greatly. Yes Inter had a good defense, but it wasn't nearly as good as it is this year with Sommer in nets. Onana's problem is partly him, but also United and the coaching staff and his team mates. At least from what I can see.
I really feel bad for Onana. Something at united isnt right for him. It is too odd to be a top draw goalie last season and only to become a joke of a league in the next.

He was never the best keeper in the UCL. People were calling him the best after 3 or 4 good matches with Inter in the knockout stages last year, he was never that good.

Onana has definitely made some massive errors in the short time he's been at Old Trafford. Some are clearly his fault, and I think he needs to be given time by being benched to go build his confidence back up more which I think is the underlying issue. He's got talent, he just needs to be in a better mind sent. Which brings me to point two.
Some goals conceeded clearly come from Man Utd being Man Utd. The fact Onana as Man Utd's goalkeeper is 2nd in most goals prevented and tied for 1st for saves percentage tells me that Man Utd's back line are giving their opponetns way too many chances to shoot. Hell, the fact they're 5/6th(?) with a GD in the negatives shows that. There is a massive problem at Man Utd in their culture and they need a desperate clean sweep.

Someone hitting a really high peak once, doesn’t set that as a the bar for their potential, it sets the bar as their peak, and that often means they won’t get there again. Sick of players having a good tournament or six months and then being seen as world class. It happens every World Cup and happened with Onana and the champions league.
