    Thanks Gary. I've always liked the way Pages handles paragraph numbering. I used to spend what seemed like hours trying to get MS Word to properly number paras in a lengthy document before. But for some while now if I need to produce a document in Word format with anything more than the simplest of paragraph numbers I create it in Pages and save it as a Word document.

      Gary, it is not what I want, it is what is best for you and all the others. I am subscribed to over 100 CZcamsrs like you. If I and hundreds of others don't get the notifications they, as well as me, will miss many videos. if you don't care then no problem. My purpose was only to let you know what is happening which I assume you did not know. Most1 just tole me thanks for the information.

    Thank you! The only thing you didn't cover in this is how you can change the type of numbering that is displayed at each hierarchy (like the default Harvard one does) at different indent levels. (But I figured it out by using what you showed in this video and playing with it a bit. ;-) )

    I've been waiting for this video! So I followed your instruction and it worked perfectly. Opened up a new file and the custom body and bullet list were gone! Can you save these custom settings permanently Gary? Is there some way to save the settings as a template? As always, thanks for helping.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety +1

      You could always copy and paste from another document, or create a template that is bare-bones and uses this for future documents.

    • @NicolenePotch
      @NicolenePotch Před 2 lety +1

      Go to "file" and then "save as template". When you want to create a new document, just go to "file", and click on "my templates".

    I used to use Word, but since Pages is free am using it now. What are your thoughts between the two?
    I feel Pages meets my needs, but Word may have more options.

    • @macmost

      Word is definitely more powerful, but few people use those extra tools it has. If Pages works for you, then keep using Pages.

    Hello Gary, there is any way to create a new format bullet but with Text, I have a document I did in Word that I want to redo in Pages, but In Word I create a bullet list with a word. instead of a number list, I create a word list like Art 1. (article 1). then I put the title of the article, and when I hit enter It appears Art. 2, Art. 3, etc. - there is any way to do this in pages?

    What if you want different styeles for different levels of headings? E.g., Heading 1 is 18 pt, Heading 2 is 15 pt and Heading 3 is 12 pt. I seem unable to get these different styles to inherit their numbering from their parent/previous heading.

    I have several different "Heading" in my document. How do I get that "Heading" to insert into the header on the page. For example pages 1 - 3 are under the "Heading" - Work while pages 4 - 7 are under the "heading" - Play. So I want pages to auto insert in the middle section of pages 1 -3 "Work" and in the middle section of pages 4-7 "Play" Thanks I didn't know which youtube video to ask this question.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      I don't think you can do it automatically. You'd need to create sections and then change the header for each section.

    Thanks for such great tutorials, I am starting to create a book in Pages and didn't use this program very often. Is there a way to create a footer with the page number on the first page of a section, but not a header? They seem to stick together turning on or off.

    • @macmost

    Can you retain these styles in your set of Pages defaults, or would you have to make a template?

    • @macmost

      Defaults like this are stored in Templates, not universal to the entire app. So you'd make a template, yes.

    Seems as if it is impossible to start a heading with 1.1? I have a Module 1: Dismissals. I would then like to go to 1.1 Fair reasons for dismissal. Impossible! (I could do it in Word, but not Pages)

    • @macmost
