In this tutorial, we're going to be focusing on the basics of jumping to give the foundation park skills you need to progress to the next level.
Get The Feeling Of Jumping
Before going to an actual jump, stand in your ski boots and jump straight up and down. You want to feel your shins against your boots and pop up off your toes.
Small Jump
Now find yourself a small jump that you feel comfortable with. Something with little to no gap to the landing will be perfect. Speed check the jump first. This is when you ski up to it and stop right at the takeoff to get an idea of the speed required. Also, make sure no one is behind you when you do this cause you can definitely wreak some havoc in the park with this little maneuver.
Keeping your hands in front of you is crucial for all forward landing tricks but timing is an equally important aspect of jumping. Ideally you want to be fully extended right at the lip of the jump.
Stepping It Up
Once you feel comfortable with the smaller jump, try stepping it up a notch. Find a jump that has a little bit of a distance between the takeoff and the landing. Do another speed check and watch others hit the jump first to get an idea of how much speed you need. It's important to have enough speed to clear the knuckle, especially bigger jumps.
Once you feel comfortable with bigger jumps start adding grabs, shifties and carving into the jump. This will make you a better skier and definitely add style to your skiing.

step one: do a corkscrew 720
step two: do it again, but with no rotations
congrats you can now land a jump
reminds me of how Spongebob draws circles
This escalated quite quickly.
I was thinking the same thing! lmao
love how the video on how to jump is basic: “send it!”
Will let you know once Ive mastered jumps ... or broken something.

Do you want your skis together or apart?
Ski Addiction thanks, subscribed
Great education ,simple to the point for begginers now I can show my kids. Thx
Awesome man, a great lesson packed into a 3 minute vid. I went up yesterday for the first time this season, after deciding I wanted to get into jumps this year. Must admit, it looks so much easier than it is to get this right. I'm going to take a day at the mountain by myself soon, bring these vids along with me and practice for hours!
Your new videos are awesome. Keep it up!
Dude! You get me! I would feel embarrassed doing that, now I won't be
please don't do this. unless u like getting yelled at.
@@roscoeryder just be courteous and give the more experienced skiers their room. They'll recognize your approach to safety and willingness to learn, and may even get a free lesson out of it.
but you are a biker..
More useful and less embarrassing is to ask someone if they know the speed required.
Watch them hit the jump and take note if they burn speed or just pin it.
Ask someone who knows what there doing, and most of the time they will allow you to follow them so you can get the speed
I always wave my arms around on the big ones it's hard to help
yeah when i spin 360 on the big ones my arms are helicopter mode
@@janvandekerk4264 just gotta keep it down
bend down more maybe
Clutch advice bro thanks for keeping it short sweet and to the point
Dude this is a pretty nice video. I’m able to do a table and some big jumps and this winter I’m hoping to be able to rails and add in some tricks into my jumps. Some of my friends are telling me to start with a 180 cause I can butter 180 pretty easily. But we’ll just have to wait and see😀😀
Great video man. I enjoyed it! Can you make some videos of you sking down a few mountains or skiing through a few ski parks? I subbed.
Great video! Easy to understand and explained very well. Now to put your teachings into practice. 😬
I miss the old days where you learned by just going for it on 90s parks with sketchy jumps
Very nice clip! helped me a lot...
Great video thanks
Good instruction
that music is sick!
Thanks for the tutorial. The tips have been helping me improve my ski jumps. Can you do a tutorial on several trick for beginners
I’m gonna try this when I go on Saturday.
Thanks for the help, last time I tried a really big jump, I face planted and my skis went flying.
Hey brother! Great video. I’ll be sure to use this next time I’m landing some tricks 😁!!! That’s if, I can 😂😂😂.
Glad to help
I’m terrified to do jumping again this year because last year I went too fast and overshot the jump so I didn’t land in the knuckle or the hill and I almost killed myself
Did you break something?
I’m scared coach!
Nice tips still broke a couple rips
Great video! I just have a question, can I jump with my all-mountain ski? Cuz I'm so scared of landing if I'm on back forward lool
Cool video. Great tips! I've got Lange wide RS130 boots. Do I really need proper freestyle boots to help absorb the impact for jumps like this?
no, just use the gear you have
Nice Video ! Can you make a tuto on 360 heligrab (I think we call thaht mute grab)
theres one by Stomp it Tutorials thats quite good. Just search 360 mute grab and you'll find it
Okey i am waiting for it then 👌
Last season I was jumping stuff but looking back I had no idea how to land... I would always land and my skis would make a loud crack from smacking the ground (I even flipped once but kinda failed that because it was an accident on moguls). Somehow still haven't broken any bones despite having crazy falls in multiple sports...
Lively Cuber they aren’t fails if you get better
I’m trying to do a 360 mute but find myself leaning too far to the right when I’m about to land. Really threw out my groin today doing just that.
I struggle to attack larger jumps with enough speed. They scare me, so I go too slow which results in the worst possible outcome. It’s very frustrating and is amplified if I’m going to try a 360.
I’m like 12 and this helped a lot
Josh Clark ur like 12 how do you not surely know how old you are.
Dude ur 12 and learning the basics of jumping, u suck I am 14 and trying to learn a backflip and 540
@@michaelpetraco7051 You sound like you're 5. Grow up. Everyone learns at a different speed and at a different age.
@@AwesomeeWolf u sound like an asshole
michael petraco stop being a jerk
Uh, I hope you have a video on how to land said jump.
to started in freestyle it's necesary freestyle ski? i have all-mountain ski and want to start to do basic jumps.
thanks
No, I ski with all mountain skis and i Can do 900 and stoff like that
When you land are you supposed to land with your weight to the back of the skis or the front?
You should have it even both on the back and the front
In the middle of skis
I normally land on the front, if the slope is facing downwards
What’s the basic length for freestyle skis compared to ones height ?
I’m about 180cm ... looking at Armada twin tips?
What’s your height vs ski length?
I am also 180cm and i just got the Armada ARV 84 twin tip skis which have length 170cm. It depends on how good you are - if you are more experienced then 170-180 cm would suit, if less then I'm guessing around 165cm
I have a ski addiction
Hey dude, I really need some advice. Currently I am using the all mountain Atomic vantage 90 cti, and I've been wanting to hit jumps for a lojg time. I've hit smaller jumps like bumps and edges but not big jumps so I need some advice. Is the length and the width of my skis bad for jumping, and also, is it possible to do the turn trick where you turn your body one way and the skis the other and do a really cool jump. If you could reply that would be great, im just a bit concerned that i dont have like proper twin tips freestyle skis.
Ski Addiction ah, thanks for the reply! Also, do you have any good suggestions for freestyle skis that I could get?
Haha yes! I actually just bought the Armada ARV 84 2018. I will get the bindings setup in a couple days and it will be ready to be used. Thanks for all the advice! I'll make sure to checkout your other tutorials, and also great job on your videos. They're really high quality and you definitely deserve more subscribers! Well, either way you earned one today so I'm looking forward to watching your future content! ^^
is there any specific type of ski boots for freestyle also??? I bought free style ski last year but i think my boots is still so heavy and stiff...
Vilix _ I got the same armadas as you I just got them this past Thursday haha! I love them so far how about you?
I got a older version of armada skies this year but they're quite heavy sadly. I'm also curious when doing 360s off a jump, how can you keep ur balance because a 360 without skis always throws me off balance to the side (impossible to do w/ my skis).
Hi this is an old video but when youre landing, where should my weight be focused, my heels or toes?
you should try to land synced with the angle of the landing, it’s better to focus on heels than toes tho
How do i get better riding switched
Well, Let’s see How it goes💀 (skiing tomorrow)
I don't have park skis but do I need them for doing just simple jumps and grabs?
Ski Addiction Not ideal but still okay for the beginning right? 😅 I mean having a race ski like the super shape
Ski Addiction okay thank u :)! Do u have a recommendation? That’s also okay for powder skiing and not too expensive? 😅
Homer Simpson get twin tips
Remember that you can buy used skis if on a budget
@@homersimpson4331 dude buy the skis at tent sales before or after the season when the get rid of last year’s models
Looks easy. Hold my beer.
How do you land without falling and how do u not get scared if ur afraid of heights?
Annette Lu just huck it
Nicholas Caldwell lol ok
Annette Lu it feels hard but its not I didnt fall when i first started doing tricks...they look hard but ar not...just remember to land flat.
American_Bacon ok thx so much
Annette Lu no problem!
Why don't you pop on bigger jumps?
Song? 🤔
Can you use skis that aren’t for freestyle?
Yep! but it is harder.
How to for beginners...if you're corking.... dayum
What is the maximum age where you can get away from doing this?
If you use the correct technique and you are physically able too there is nothing to stop you at any age! just stay safe up there :)
step one: practice popping up without your skis
step two: simply just do a 720 360 corkscrew tailgrab 1020 double back flip
Sounds about right, haha
Am I the only one watching that in the middle of fuckin June?
I’m an 11 year old kids but for some reason I’m just not scared of jumps
cause ur young so ur less afarid of getting injured
@@charlesdarwin659 yesterday I went down my first black diamond and it was quite epic
1:56 it seems like u scrapped off some speed. if u go at a higher speed what will happen?...
More speed will cause you to go further. You have to be familiar with the size of jump you are hitting
@@SkiAddiction thanks for responding:)
Dude I'm comfy with my 180's after practice, but my arms turn into helicopters if I try anything else LMFAO. How do I stop it?
whis looking bluer than ive seen it in a while :(
Just don't be the asshole who cuts someone off and then speed checks the jump... Had someone do that like 10 feet in front of me at the bottom of a steep slope when we were both flying, was a miracle I didn't hit him.
i dont do the pop because when i do it it feels wierd and i always land backseated
The pop gives you control in the air rather than letting the jump take you. Rather than not popping, I would suggest practicing to pop on flat or a very gradual slope, until you're comfortable with it. If you're still landing back-seated make sure your arms are forward and in front of you, and you can feel your shins against the front of your boots.
