Driving the Last Real Jaguar - This 2008 XJ LWB Was The Last Classically Styled Jaguar Saloon

  • SOLD For many years, Jaguars were absolutely unmistakable - low, long, sleek, loaded with chrome and leather, and exuding class and taste in a refined manner. The last Jaguar sedan to adhere to this philosophy was the X358, made from 2005 to 2009. Though very advanced in construction and materials, this Jaguar looked as classic as traditional as any other made in the last 5 decades, and was a very true successor to the first Jag saloons.
    Full review and test drive by Bill. This car is SOLD

      Not enough people bought it. The shape would have had to change dramatically for pedestrian safety standards and US passenger safety standards. If they were popular, they wouldn't be so cheap now

      @AAWT Před 3 lety +2

      @@stevec6427 You're wrong. The "leaper" on the front would've had to go for safety reasons sooner or later for pedestrian safety, but the shape isn't any less compliant with passenger regulations than any other comparable cars. Bentley build similar shapes to this day, so do Rolls Royce, and neither of them have any problems complying with regulations. It's just that very few people have the taste and style to appreciate these (and some of those who would are put off as they imagine them being much more expensive than they actually are, and thus the thought of being able to afford one doesn't even cross their mind). People seem to prefer to buy the new models, which look just like every other car on the road.

    My favourite Jag saloon is the 1995-1997 Jaguar X300 - inline six. I have several, including the 4.0 litre manual and the 4.0 supercharged XJ-R auto - they have a 'film star' quality that the German saloons simply lack. You get Mercedes taxis in Europe, but not Jaguar ones!
    Its DNA stretches back to the original XJ6 of 1968, but it's modern and reliable to drive, and very much a classic Jaaag.

Perhaps being here in Britain helps as Jags are sort of motorist royalty here, as Bill has wisely identified! If I were going to let go of my Panther (2001 Town Car), this Jag might be the car that caused me to do it. Both are Fords, really, and both are among the most reliable of big luxury cars. If I hadn't been able to absolutely steal this beautiful one-owner, dealer maintained TC a couple of years ago, I might go looking for one of these right now. But I know it would cost a lot more, and I just bought a C4 Corvette that needs some refreshing. Can't have it all.
    Still, I'm very tempted. The Jag is just flawlessly executed. I wouldn't change a thing, except I'd probably insist on the standard wheelbase version. IMO, Ford has been an under-rated car company in recent years.

    The absolute best thing to ever happen to Jaguar was when Ford took over the reigns! Who wants an English car that looks great but, has endless electrical and other problems that Ford solved when they built the Model T. I love the minimalist approach to technology in this or any automobile, especially when it comes to the damned computers and their obscenely huge screens. There are those of us, mostly from the tried and true Baby Boomer generation, that are perfectly capable of driving a car without the aid of a computer! We are there to drive the car, not to check our membership status at the online Millennial gen. Communist Party page on FB, or to contact our little Snowflake, non-sexually-binary, panty wearing, whining little-boy-bitches who still live in their bitter, divorced mommies basements! You mean the Daimler was badged as a jaguar for the American ' market
      As Daimler in the US is considered a Benz

      @@geriatricmotorcars9516 Yes that is true. We DID have Daimler cars (British) back in the 50's and 60's. Too expensive.

    I have an 08 xj in midnight blue with factory 20'' chrome wheels. Absolutely love the car. My first car was a 1983 Camaro that is the same color as the one that keeps showing up in background. lol

    I’ve never seen the long wheelbase version of this car. It’s pretty well executed, and I love a big backseat and a proper big back door. 🤭

    I am on X308 XJ8 LWB Sovereign #3, first one caught fire, now have one driver car and one spare (which has been a G-d-send). Yes beautiful cars, will have to look at one of these into the future. As an Englishman who lives now between the UK, Australia and Israel, I am fascinated how Bill looks in every compartment to see what Ammo or Hand Gun he can fit in there!! Hilarious but so very practical. In Australia they took our guns away after the "Port Arthur Massacre" n Tasmania that many to this day (myself included) believe was in fact a "black-ops" style operation purely for that purpose, yet one poor soul languishes in prison for a crime he almost certainly did not commit. But wise and informed American's know just what I am talking about and I pray you NEVER give up your guns! Israel a very different story, absolutely essential and most everyone approved owns at least one weapon. Thanks again Bill, fantastic review!!

      Thiz i would like to know as well i currently "reside" "live" in a hilly, mountainous area with steep roadtm, that freeze over in winter and four wheels drive is a must unless you want to be passed by the local tractor.

    I love these and agree they are the last of the true Jaguar Saloons. The Sports Coupes are still relevant but the current series of Jaguar sedans are pretty damn ugly. And this trend for black wheels on such cars is like Crocs with a tuxedo. Nice presentation.
