Unfortunately, this gameplay cuts off right about where the mod takes a turn for the worse. The vault section is great, but afterwards it turns into a railroad with not much to offer besides big fights in big maps. It's not as egregious as Frontier, but it has the same "EPIC fanfiction by people who don't understand the original" feel.

NewVegas is a bit far from a mod, seeing as most of the game was worked on by the original fallout devs, and marketed by Bethesda
And yet the thumbnail is fallout 76.
No wonder Fronty Devs hated this. It had actual passion, and allowed us to join the Sneedclave.
And it had some character, a crazy character that spouts nonsense sometimes, but a character. When it's not breeding random animals Frontier is just, so bland!

Although my experience is in TES mods the point is still valid, One bad mod does not erase the literally dozens of story mods I've played in Skyrim that are better than ANYTHING vanilla Skyrim. And since half of Skyrim's mechanics was taken from Oblivion mods I'd say Bethesda listens to their modders just fine.

Personally I played it for 3 hours and never touched it again. Felt stale just battle after battle, couldn’t get into the story much, was just spamming massive battles as if they were flexing them. I personally couldn’t get into it, but I do acknowledge that it was a good mod!

Fallout 3 was actually good af back when it was released...newer gamers don't appreciate it though. Fallout 4 is the most addicting FO game out of them all (I have 800 hours)

I'm doing my second run of this mod and honestly, the first run through is fun if you don't think about what your doing, but in retrospect, especially in the second play through, the mod has some extreme flaws and bit off way more then it can chew.
The prologue is a good one. Long, quests, and with a lot of characters with memorable personalities that change based on who you choose to be. But after you leave the vault? The world is too big. No depth or detail. All the quests are the same, the 'big towns' of the map are incredibly disappointing. Very few NPC's with personalities, and your companions literally have almost nothing to say at all after the prologue. You have to initiate conversation after every major quest, and they still yet don't have much to say.
If Fallout New California halved the size of the map, and put in the same work as the prologue, it would have been amazing. But you get no time to breathe or explore between quests, an empty world with very few buildings with interiors, and literally 95% of the enemies you run into are raiders who never offer much challenge.
I enjoyed the mod, I really did. As a major fan of fallout, I was excited to get a refreshing experience. But one play through is enough for most. Mad respect to the developers for getting this far.

Make sure on your other playthrough you dodge when it give you the option in the beginning and go high science. You can recruit a robot doggo and a custom-built battle droid in the robotics lab in the prologue.

To be fair to the modders, this was probably still one of the playtest versions of the full release of the BETA of the mod. AKA if you download and play the mod now it will be much more polished with less bugs and better FPS, much more fleshed out side missions, ect.
I love how something low-quality is made and it's better than Bethesda Bethesda but if Bethesda released this it would have been dogshit.

Imagine if all the AAA gaming companies enabled modding for their games. Is the easier access for hack making only reason we dont get modder tools for Blizzard games for example?
Mod tools are really hard to make is the reason we don't get them.
If you take a look at Paradox games you'll notice that while they have a shit load of mods, none have modding tools and it's not because the devs don't release them.
As far as I'm aware the vanila PDX scripts are all written by the devs in sublime text editor with special rule packs or whatever they were called.
You say it like modding any games is easy, there is a reason why some of the most modded games are simple in terms of graphics and/or code.
What does modding being hard have to do with anything? If you enjoy something enough you will do it no matter how hard it is.
@@temba92 Yeah sure, but the density of the mod "population" is affected by how the games are built regardless of the modders' determinations, there are cases where attempts to support the modding actually harms the modders, i heard bad things about the Afterbirth+ DLC for example.
A quick reminder they abandoned this for the Frontier.
They could have completed this and instead wasted 7 years for a burning dumpster fire.

@@jackrambit9637 It isn't finished. There are a lot of rewrites, quests, and features they had intended on implementing, but never did due to dropping large scale development. The only updates to NC that have been done since 2019 are bug fixes and installer updates.

At least that was the reason they gave as to why development of FNC had stopped.
They didn't create a better game if it only applies to one select group of gamers.

It's actually kind of funny that most of these mods get a lot of hype. As in, the anti-Bethesda crowd starts talking about how fans can make real Fallout games unlike Fallout 3 and 4, which they see as abominations. Then when these mods (Frontier and New California) get scrutinized in terms of story and content, people laugh at them, and realize that they're nowhere near as good as the Bethesda Fallouts. New California has a reputation of being so-so, and Frontier is outright bad.
As a New Vegas boy who fell in love with Fallout 3 and who respects Fallout 4 as a good game, it just makes me laugh to see these boomers and zoomers get so hyped for a "real" Fallout game made by "real" Fallout fans, only for them to crash and burn while people laugh at how bad their mod is.
I suppose Bethesda and Todd Howard are going to get their own "George Lucas" moment where people who used to despise them run back to them after the next large story mod made by "real Fallout fans" ends up flopping. That would be a funny day, indeed. We already got two strikes, Fallout: New California and Fallout: The Frontier. The third large story mod to flop is going to make people yearn for the days of Fallouts 3 and 4, and would probably drive up subscriptions for Fallout 76.
