I think the palace announced there was no room in the kings diary to meet the king. I think it was to make a point that they didnt endorce his Nigerian visit.
The palace said nothing, it was Harry's press release that said the king didn't have time to meet him. It was self serving in order to make everything think that Charles is unfeeling. It is alleged Buckingham Palace never received a request from Harry for a meeting with Charles. Secondly, it would be inappropriate for Charles to meet with Harry on the eve of his visit to Nigeria. It would send the wrong message to which Harry would certainly capitalise on i.e. validating his "royal tour."
