- 2003 may feel like it was just yesterday but so much has changed since then. In 2006 we lost over 30 iconic Doo Wop motels. Join us for this historical drive around the Wildwoods to look at these beauties.
Let us know in the comment section what jumped out at you?!?

There is nothing like the feeling of coming down the off ramp and heading from Rio grande into wildwood. Instant excitement and relaxation. It's like weight being lifted off your shoulders
Well i was born in 2003, this was an awsome gift, thanks Joey
no problem!!!
So was I. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video.
I miss the old look....as a kid in the 60s...a drive or stroll down Surf ave was great...all those motels that are long gone..glad I lived it
There’s nothing like that first day drive down the shore 😀
Being a native and living here year round comes close
I worked at the Port Royal Hotel from 1996-2001. Brings back memories from a better time in my life. Miss old wildwood
The Good Ole year right??!!
I like the drive Joey and it gave me a summer preview i can't wait to go back down there again it will be here before you know it
That's my nephew! Great job Anthony! He's a talented young man Joey... :)
Im surprised to see the motel we always stay at in the picture,RIO MOTEL, always got a room facing the beach ,just love it there so much
Thank you so much for uploading this. My dad was the one who took this video (I was two months old at the time). He had a funny feeling that most of these places would be gone soon which is why he took this video. There are about 20 motels in this video that were demolished within a few short years.
It was very smart of him to film these places. Boy do things change. There are so many motels gone but still live on in this video!
Your dad has that way of knowing things!
137 days until the Crusader, Macks, Sals, Marvis....dolphins........
Still looking for those french fries in a paperbag circa 1995.
ahahahaha
This is Sooo DOPE!!
lol Your PRACTICALLY A HISTORIAN!!!
Thanks! ❤
Joey, it feels like a fun ride but from the back seat "are we there yet?"... 😂
hahahaha.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Yay! The place I was raised and born. Miss it since I’ve lived in central Florida since 1988. So many wonderful memories there. 🌸
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm in south FL but Wildwood is where I learned that I needed to live near the beach always.
We saw Wildwood thru the 50s,60s,70s,80s,90s,00,10,20.........Its still the best!
Joey thanks for always bringing Wildwood Cape May to all of us who love it so much.
Wow... The motel that my parents and I stayed at was still up in 2003... The Siesta! Right across the street from the Adventurer and next to the BelAir...I think it was demo'ed in 2005
Cool. You’re correct. It was demolished sometime in 2005.
That was great Joey! So many motels gone! Ugh. Wish they were still there
same here!!!
I agree. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I was there in fall of 2002 for a school trip but didn't really pay attention to a lot of my surroundings. I started coming yearly in 2007. Great video to see Joey, thanks for uploading!!! For me, the few things that jumped out were these. 1. The KFC on the left right after coming off the George Redding Bridge (never knew it was there). 2. The big building on the corner of Susquehanna Ave. and Rio Grande was being built at the time and you could see all the way to the WaWa. 3. The iconic Wildwood Sign and beach balls had not yet been installed at the end of Rio Grande Avenue. 4. The Rio Hotel where the current Starlux Mini Gulf is, and the hotel that was beside it (never seen any video of them before, and were gone by the time I started coming down regularly). 5. The motels at the end of Ocean Avenue in Wildwood Crest (don't remember them being there). 6. The construction in the parking lots of the convention center and that none of what we know now had been built yet.
I’m glad that you enjoyed it.
Hey Joey this video really got me thinking about my age lol o well but I'm fighting it every step of the way lol til next time bye 👍😎❤️
hahahaha so did I!!! I was like, wait, how old am I lol
Awwww, SO cool to see the Rio Motel again! Did I see the Carousel Motel in there as well?
Yes. The Carousel is in the video. Glad you enjoyed it.
It's always a good day in Wildwood!
Awww blast from the past ❤️❤️
Nice to hear that you enjoyed it.
Thanks again Joey , I remember when, a lot younger then, lol
Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Nice '03 memories! You could really see the boom in development back then with all the new condos replacing some of the old Doo Wop motels, and even the new convention center going up.
sadly you could. I miss a lot of those older places
Yeah. The following year in 2004 is when the condo boom really took a turn for the worst. Out of the 300 estimated motels that were accounted for back in in the early 2000s, only around 100 still stand today.
@@SatelliteStudiosOfficial I remember that many of the locals were really against the condo boom of the early 2000s. I totally understood why, too. Wildwood changed forever.
Wow I think I saw the Hi Lilli there. I completely forget about that place. Used to stay there all the time as a kid.
YES!! I saw that one too!
I'm going to wildwood today on vacation until Friday or Saturday idk
Lotus Inn was and still is my favorite place to stay at whenever my family went to the shore it was always perfect to wake up every morning and being able to step on the beach in no time at all.
The Rio, The carousel.. just to name a few others!!Miss those ones
@@WildwoodVideoArchive Same. The Satellite was and still is my favorite.
These are my memories of Wildwood when I was a kid!
Many Many years ago when we use to go to Wildwood for our Family Vacations we always would try to eat 2 - 3 times at LUIGIES Resturant it use to be on Pacific Ave and I noticed a video that I cannot find right now that a big chunk of stores and buildings on Pacific Ave are being taken down and you made a video showing the building, something is telling me that that use to be LUIGIES Rest, do you have any knowledge that it might be the place it may even be before your time. They use to have the best Food there and also I am fighting with my sister that we use to eat at a Rest for Breakfast right on the Boardwalk it use to be on the end called and I hope I spell this right SPIROS Rest they had the BEST Breakfast on the Boardwalk. These places are long gone but if anybody can HELP me it would be you. THANKS Steve
stayed at seashell motel, now called sunshine,,rio grande and atlantic, across from starlux
A quick shot of my family's hotels The Newport.
4:53 the construction project is that Coastal Colors? At 5:49 The old Astronaut motel. Not there any more. We stayed at the Beach Colony /Golden Nugget going back to the 70s
Yes. That's Coastal Colors. The Astronaut Motel is still standing. I think you mean the Bonanza.
@@SatelliteStudiosOfficial Yes you are correct my bad. We don't stay at the BC anymore. We stay at the Fleur de Lis now.
Awesome! Like I always tell my big busted Babygirl, thanks for the mammaries!!!😎👍
i was down there irish weekend,2003
It's strange not seeing the Wildwoods sign!
The Wawa was there in 2003?
Yes. It was being built at the time.
yea, that Wawa has been there for a while
Where the Wildwood sign by the boardwalk when u made the right turn
It wasn’t built yet.
I believe it was built in 2006
Where's the ferris wheel??
It doesn’t appear in this video.
Is that a high school football game on the radio?
Yes. It was.
haha it sounds like it!
@@SatelliteStudiosOfficial That's pretty cool!! Do you know if they still do!! I ref high school football in Westchester NY going on 20 years and no schools here ever did that. A couple have there own cable network and carry the games, but thats nowadays.
no disrespect but i fast forwarded through this in about 25 seconds but ...............couldnt see anything and keep wanting to SLOW DOWN....oh well thx for the effort anyway
