    I absolutely love that these are videos for actual beginners. They don't assume I know anything at all (which indeed I don't), so I'm loving this. I had no idea about the thread or the needles or any of it, and I love that you're going through everything bit by bit. A lot of "beginner"-videos I see sort of assume you already know how to thread your machine, so I cannot stress enough how helpful these videos are. Sod the haters and keep at it. Oh and also, English isn't my first language, and while I am pretty much fluent, the spoken language can occasionally be hard to understand, but you are speaking clearly and are well articulated, so thank you for that too.

I know I have picked up shortcuts and maybe even some bad habits over the years, so you have helped me to prepare to teach the basics to someone with no experience. I believe that EVERYONE should be able to sew enough to accomplish some basic mending and alterations and have a basic machine at the ready. Knowing how to sew has been a tremendous blessing in my life and the lives of my family, and the ability to create clothing and other items to keep or gift to others is an empowering and creative experience. After many years of putting it in back burner, bcz I just didn't spare the time and was afraid of spending the $ on a machine and possibly not going through with it, I did it. These videos are extremely detailed and at a good speed for someone like me, who knew nothing about sowing. My machine is Singer so slightly different in only a couple of things, but with the manual at hand and these videos, wow, im just beyond words. Im so thankful for your videos. They are professional, clear, detailed they are the most helpful I found.

    My granpa was a tailor. Before WWII he traveled around the area to learn the craft oldschool way. It's sad that he passed away long before I was born, so all the experience and the legacy of his practice was lost. Thanks to my meemaw as a young boy 30 years ago I've learned some basic things with grandpa's old manual Singer machine. And today I feel that I want to connect with my grandpa by sewing. So I'm trying to learn everything from scratch. Thanks for your great advices!!!

    I am enjoying watching your video. Although I'm no beginner, it never hurts to watch and to have a refresher course now and again. It helps me to relearn and to do a recap on the things I already know.
    Incidentally, I especially enjoyed this first video for a special reason. I own and use the exact same model sewing machine as you used here, the Husqvarna Viking, Emerald 116. These are true mechanical sewing machines, which is exactly what I need. Moreover, these are real workhorse sewing machines with plenty of power to spare.
    I found early on that if I am sewing thick or heavyweight fabrics, owning and using an even feed walking foot really does the machine wonders. Having that added motion that works in tandem with the feed dogs of the sewing machine really makes life a lot easier and far less complicated. I occasionally need to repair my denim jeans or my work pants, and the dense layers makes the machine struggle and bog down. The Even Feed Foot eliminates most of the struggles and really cleans up my work.
    I'm just a novice with the sewing machine, but my skills seriously borders on those of a beginner. I subscribed to your channel in the hope of learning a little bit more about my sewing machine. Very well planned and a very well thought out video demo and presentation, thank you. Oh, and I really love your beautiful eyes. Greetings from Homer Alaska.

    All the cool things these newer machines have! I've got an old Singer 401A. I'm always in awe of what I see the new machines doing, they look so user friendly! Automatic tension and needle threading, touch screen displays that give you more options than you know what to do with. For beginners, I think the simple machines are easier and less daunting to use.

    • @MadetoSew
      @MadetoSew  Před 7 lety

      Hi Jenna, it is true sewing machines can be very fancy nowadays and you are correct that sometimes this is too much. The machine I use in these tutorials is a basic 'modern' machine, it isn't computerised and bar the needle threader nothing happens automatically. There are lots of positives to this, you can make the machine do what YOU want! Rather than working with a machine that thinks it knows more than you!! Your Singer sounds fab, I do most of my own work on an industrial machine so this is VERY basic too! Good luck with your sewing. Aneka x

    I have been sewing since childhood and still learned here. I am just about to buy a new machine, as I take to sewing seriously again, although I still use my trusty treadle. Thank you so much for your time, the information and your terrific presentation. 😊

    I’ve had a Brother sewing machine for years, but I haven’t really used it. It has been sitting in the hallway closet but now I’d love how to sew. I have the machine so I might as well get some use out of it. 😊🌸

    Thank you so much for these. A friend gave me a sewing machine years ago. I've recently gotten it out to assist in a community effort of DIY mask-making for essential workers and as fund-raisers for our food banks. I've had no classes or instruction, so discovering your tutorials was exciting. You are an excellent, straight forward, organized communicator. I'm learning so much! I've paused for the evening at lesson 5, and just want to thank you for getting me excited about this new hobby I've fallen into. Your videos are beyond helpful, they're also encouraging. Thank you!

    I bought a pattern and material then cut out the pieces weeks ago but could not bring myself to even start using my new machine. I felt so overwhelmed with all the functions, the different feet, stitches, changing the pressure foot, all the automatic features (doesn't help that the manual is only in French, Dutch and German). It was so good to go to the basics. I sewed half my dress today after watching this tutorial!!!! Thank you so much 🙏

    I’m learning to sew because the online cosplays that are available are made from awful materials and the colours don’t usually match the character’s outfits, so I’m gonna make them myself. Thank you for this video, it was very helpful.

I've been trying for years! Thanks for making this channel!!! It's very helpful for a guy who plans to open his own clothing line, but has NEVER sewn a day in his life, just drawn!😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣😀
