I’ve read many comments that seem confused somehow? Some comments say;
It’s still alright for the price 👍🏻
It still might be good for newcomers 👍🏻
It doesn’t sound that bad 👍🏻
I should have bought four when they were cheap 👍🏻
Did no one listen to the sickness inducing fishbowl distortion or 60hz refresh rate issues I highlighted at the end? 🤔
No one should buy this headset fullstop 😐
It’s not a good VR experience and one that will more likely turn more people away from VR 😢
I took a crappy headset bullet so you don’t have to 😂
@@orangehatmusic225 Im a college student that is struggling to save money. ive wanted to get into VR ever since i saw the Oculus DK1 and ive wanted a vive ever since they came out. i was hoping to get one for christmas, but all i got was a generic cell phone VR goggles. Ill take this for $30 on ebay to at least see a little bit of what VR is like before i can save up the $500 for a Vive. The fishbowl effect wont bother me much, im used to that kind of view as i have a pair of night vision goggles that have the same effect that i use very frequently, very different, i know, but still. i want any kind of VR, and if i can spend only $30 to try a crappy version of it, im gonna do it
Because of you I bought an oculus go
I think the distortion could be fixed with either a custom program or fan patch, or else a developer-made patch. (or was maybe somehow a problem on your end specifically? seems doubtful though)
The 60 Hz refresh rate could certainly be a problem, but it is still viable for low intensity stuff, such as VR Chat, or watching VR movies, 360° stereoscopic video, Google Earth, virtual desktop, 3D art/design, watching regular movies/video in a virtual room, and similar sorts of things; probably even various games. All that stuff is low intensity where the refresh rate shouldn't matter too much since one wouldn't be moving their head around quickly often.
I hear what you're saying but I was wowed by the 60hz 3dof Oculus rift dk1 in 2012. I couldn't go back now without puking but I think at $30 (or $10 if you bought an overpowered laptop and bundled) You couldn't keep the 2012 version of me away from this. Obviously it can't compare to Oculus products or HTC Vive. But of course, at $150+ there's no good reason for anyone to get one, and it will probably get confused for more legit wmr headsets, and thats bad for VR.
I think the takeway is that there's so much interest in VR content that people on a serious budget will convince themselves they can live with the inconvenience when it seems like they're so close to getting into it. I stuck my budget cellphone into a plastic box looking for a little VR and I was on the verge of liking it until my phone battery drained from 30 minutes of youtube downhill skateboarding videos and showed me how of a compromise I was trying to make. There's a market for this sort of thing, done right, but no ones stepping forward.
Maybe the new price is the Soulja Boy model?
thanks for the laugh much appreciated 👍👍

Thinking the exact same thing.

@Dylan Stewart I doubt it. I've used 'true' VR (a DK1 that had a 6DOF/tracking mod), and then went to phone VR. it wasn't that bad because 1) I don't VR much because I'm super 'eat-while-you-game' casual, and 2) had reasonable expectations.
This thing would do alright for Elite.
DFX2KX Bro none of that is “true” VR at all🤣🤣 the DK1 is dirt shit compared to what’s consumer available rn. Also, phone Vr? Seriously? That’s nothing near what vr is so you obviously should not say you have tried “true” VR as you have not. You can say that when you have tried a quest or rift or vive or anything that’s ACTUALLY A VR HEADSET

@@b14m04 You should take a look at the Oculus Quest, it's about half the price of other VR Headsets. Although it doesn't have the full library of VR games, it has it's advantages, like that it's wireless, it doesn't need a PC, only an App on your phone and it also has some exclusives (like Vader Immortal) and it sells pretty good so more games will be added. But most of the games that you can play with this Headset don't have good graphics since all the tech is in the headset. Just look at a graphics compilation of Robo Recall, then you see what I mean. finally, i have been waiting for someone to review this for over a year and a half.
Thanks for making the video! It was awesome to get a shout-out too (0:50). Made my day, especially since I'm such a big fan of your content.
I'm now a little hesitant to use my headset (I bought one too, as well as one of my friends) now that you've shown it's not worth the full price tag, but that's fine. Besides, the controller is pretty good on its own, possibly even worth the $20 sale price by itself.
Regardless, I can't state enough how awesome it was for you to make a video on the headset. Frankly, I'm honored to have been mentioned on your channel.
Cheers Eric! It was a solid suggestion and made for some interesting experimentation. I really appreciate it mate []-)
im actually amazed that they were able to achieve that price even if it's a terrible experience. what i really think should be done though is for phones to get more refinement on this. Back when i still had my galaxy with a 1440p screen i used it as a full PC headset and it really wasn't that far off from the experience you get with WMR with the exception of the oled panel the phone had which looked far better in color quality. i did this using riftcat app paired with the moonlight mobile app (riftcat is needed for both PC and the desired mobile device and moonlight is needed for just the mobile device as it takes advantage of the shield in house streaming app built into geforce experience). on top of that i was able to use the xbox 360 kinnect to add in the other 3 degrees of tracking and it ended up being quite functional, rivaling almost all the headsets with the only problem being controllers. at the time there weren't any options for motion controls that would work as a standalone without an official headset. to my understanding this problem has been solved with the nolo controllers though. the greatest thing about this setup though is that you were completely wireless and as long as you had the router in the same room you decided to play in there would be virtually no lag.if one company could come up with a comprehensible way to package all these things together it would make for a cheap and easy to use headsets that would actually have strong advantages over what's currently out there.
You actually startled me when you didn't start your video with your "Welcome to the Oasis" intro. 😂
He oasis just want to say thank u bro for making these awesome vids I have a oculus quest and if it weren’t 4 u I wouldn’t have it keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Correct the problems, add a 120Hz display and for 50-60$ this could be an interesting entry level HMD.
masterneme that’s a lot to ask for fifty dollars
@@NewDimensionsvideo Yeah maybe 100$ would be a more realistic price, but for a little more you have a couple of MR headset models so I don't know.
You obviously have no clue what you're talking about
120hz for $50 aren't most headsets 90hz for even more expensive
@@drewtait6701 These panels are LCD, not OLED, we have had 120Hz LCDs for quite a while.
PSVR has 120Hz screens, I don't see why a Chinese company wouldn't be able to manufacture an HMD like I'm suggesting.
Got one on Sale $20 USD, got the 2560*1440 model WVR2? had it for 15 min before I noticed a defect and returned. as I already have an HP WMR headset, Here is a brief overview of that one
PROs:
1. High resolution, It claims this was per eye so higher than your 1440*1440 and it looked good and it did appear sharper and less screendoor/pixel then my HP windows Mixed reality set.
2. Lenses have good range and width of visibility left to right and up/down compared to the HP where your pupil MUST be almost exactly in the center of the lenses. Though both lack IPD adjustment.
3. Looking around the tracking felt like it kept up with no issues but lacked Movement tracking. forward/back etc.
CONs:
mine had a defect. there was both a hair and some single fibre of a fabric inside the headset visible in the left eye.
1. Type of screen used had slow pixel response therefore applied a blur effect with any movement
2. No built in tracking or motion controllers, no webcams for inside out, no external sensors etc.
3. The differences between the 3 versions on Walmart are not clearly defined.
EDIT: that controller seemed like garbage. I have tons of 360 and xbone controllers.
I was wondering how this is for 2d movies and the controller. I have the Vive, Odyssey and Rift.
Can't believe I've only just subscribed to your channel. Sorry it's taken so long!
it's been fun watching your channel grow. keep up the good works. for all the vr enthusiasts
if the headset had a 90 Hz display and fixed the lens distortion, then this will be a usable product. Currently Even if this headset was free that still won’t be good enough for the quality of the experience it delivers.
I think just increasing the headset to proper 90Hz would solve most problems including motion sickness. That would indeed make this headset, I reckon, between 50 to 100USD more expensive. That's awfully close to Rift territory. And those Rift touch controllers are simply awesome.
If it's free you don't need to pay for it so you don't lose anything?
@@naxzed_it But you lose time which can be more valuable than money
Anyone who’s struggling with a PC VR budget - as far as the headset goes just get the Rift S.. Best bang for your buck easily.

Hey Mike I love how your channel is inspired by RPO.
pagla07 it’s not inspired lol, he’s straight up took the name of the in game VR world from Ernest Cline’s novel Ready Player One and used it as his business name. Good for him but it seems a lil sketchy to steal someone’s I.P. But that how the world works
@@BrianFortner you must be real smart to figure all that out on your own. Dont worry I've read rpo n armada way too many times. Clearly he wants a vr experience that's described in the books to be a reality, it's kinda basis for this channel. Hence "inspired" by. Hes not ripping anyone off as far as I can see.

Here's a video idea! I got Beat Saber and Robo Recall running on a low-end GPU the other day, a GTX 750. That got me thinking. Just how far below minimum listed specs can VR games be run? I'm fresh outta old GPU's right now, so I can't playtest all of em. (Even if a game starts dropping frames, there are usually some techniques that can bring that FPS back up to 90, so I'm curious what kind of Frankenstein VR setups can be made to work.)
Yeah ive ran most stuff on a gtx780. The min requirements are a bit over the top.
Nice suggestion! Thanks Nevan []-)
👌
When I got my vive in july of 2016 I had a i5-2450p and a asus 660ti (also 16gb of ddr3 and running a HDD), since I had not had any experience in VR other than google cardboard, I was pretty blown away. I had to crank games down to lowest settings, tweak ini files and took me about a month to get over the motion sickness from the low frames from some games, but it was far from "unplayable".
I had my friends try it out and they were convinced VR was the future, a few of them had me build them PCs when they got vives/rifts as well. So my low spec didn't deter anyone, it made everyone want it. Though I made sure to tell everyone that my PC is below min spec, lol. I had to argue with several people on reddit about my success with my hardware before there were VR benchmark programs. People later learned that the min spec requirement for VR was blatant BS and most low-spec hardware could run VR just fine (even more so with software updates).
Now, compared to my i7-8700k and strix 2080ti, it's a whole different thing! Crank that SS up and it's like next gen VR compared to what I had before.
Make sure to check "Low Spec Gamer" on youtube! That guy is awesome and he has tons of low-spec hardware he tests VR on.
I wonder if a gtx 1050 ti would work 🧐

I got one this weekend. Bought for 50 bucks on Wallmart Web Page. IMHO to be my first VR experience, it was pretty good. I was expecting utterly crap, but I was quite surprised. Anyway, I did some tweaks suggested in several web pages, and after changing some values on the configuration files of the headset, it improved greatly. Think I will be training my VR Legs with this until the release of No Man's Sky BEYOND update (that includes VR), and later wil decide for an Oculus Rift S or a Valve Index, but I will probably wait until black friday.

Worth it for the controller alone
It IS bad though, it has a terrible headache inducing fishbowl effect thatll hurt your eyes, and its 60hz, so it wont look smooth at all, only adding to the sickness. you need proper lenses and proper 90hz refresh rates to not hurt yourself and never want to play vr again.
This review sounds strange in the fact that it states the issue with fish bowl which is understandable, yet the part of the frame rate stutter and items popping in and out of field of view suggest that is a PC performance problem and nothing to do with the headset.
It is most likely the firmware/software that connects it to steamvr
your channel is a diamond in the rough.
I think for someone looking to try VR affordably a used WMR headset is the way to go. I got mine certified refurbished direct from Acer for $150 with a 90 day warranty. They've dropped to $103 if you can grab one when they're in stock, or there are some on ebay used but without Acers warranty. WMR has its problems but for the price I think its an excellent introduction to VR for someone that wants to try it cheap and make sure they enjoy it and do t get sick before they invest in a high end headset like the Vive or Index.

That seller has restocked a few times, so it might come back though. The first time I bought one from them (for $150), I didn’t have a compatible GPU, so I returned it (free returns!). They ran out of stock soon after. A few months later, they had more priced at $130, and I had built a new computer, so I snatched one. Works great, and everything runs well on my $300 computer build. (Optiplex 3010, GTX 1060 6gb mini, 750w Rosewill PSU) Comparing it to the Oculus or Vive, it’s cheaper, higher resolution, and easier to set up, with the drawback of inaccurate tracking outside of the cameras’ (substantial) field of view. Also, not being made by HTC or FaceBook is a major draw for me.
Just bought 8 of them for my VR arcade ;)

Anyway, have you played Sairento? It's by-far one of my all-time favorite VR games, and I think it would be great entertainment to see you give it a go!
Best wishes, and keep gaming!
Hey Joe! Thanks for the comment mate. I played Sairento recently on my haptics vest video []-)
@@VirtualRealityOasis oh cool! I haven't seen that one yet! Haptics would be insane in that one! I love doing the backflip into slow mo, and they've added some more maneuverability features. I could see Sairento becoming a VR e-sports title, easily! Massive fun! Thanks for the reply!
Sucked, huh. Whodathunkit for a Walmart PC VR Headset? You should have tried Walmart Oreos first, you never would have bought the VR!
Walmart Oreos you say!? []-P
Imagine paying 250 for this piece of junk!
I know right, hopefully people can find this video before spending their hard earned cash []-)
Yeah I wouldn't spend that much for it, for that price you can get a Windows mixed reality headset that has hand controllers and an extra game pad controller for the PC.
I went on the website. Its back to 30 dollars plus a gift car
Keep it up!
Great work on your videos!
Sorry but I liked the older, more colorful logo better - although that pink top part was a tad crooked.
Honestly what a cool idea for a video. You should try and find more budget headsets and give them a look in 2020.
I would definitely buy this at $30, that's a steal. There are a ton of simulation seated games that I love.
its 20 bucks now... walmart.com
I kinda like mine. I have the WVR1 and I got it used on Ebay for $14. While I think they should have gone the extra mile to make actual tracking, its admirable that they tried to make affordable VR. I also find myself using the game controller provided with the HMD often. If you plan to buy a PC game controller, may as well get a VR HMD with it. I hope that some day, actual quality VR may come down to $100 or cheaper.
coolest vr setups
Funny thing about the controller you show at 4:52. It has the same design as the Evo VR Wireless Bluetooth Gamepad Pro. The only differences between the the pad you show and the Evo VR gamepad is that the letters on the buttons aren't colored (they're grey on the Evo VR gamepad) and that there's no red swoosh that goes down underneath the power button (on the Evo VR, it's actually called the Home button). So, they not only give you a subpar VR headset that's certainly not worth the now $200 price tag, they throw in a rip-off gamepad. XD
Games that I has been playing with the WVR3 and it's included controller (and really enjoyed!!): Skyrim VR, Subnautica, Solus Project, EverSpace, Lucky's Tales, Raceroom Experience and Project Cars 2. Current plans: Wait for Black Friday. If the Oculus RIft S got a discount, will buy one. If not, will be buying the Samsung Oddysey+, as it is cheaper in Amazon.
Interesting. I didn't know this product existed. Could you do a review of VR video players and services in a future video? I'd be curious in hearing your opinion of top players across platforms. I'm also curious whether the distortion you mentioned as a primary drawback of the device in this video could be accounted for by software altering the surface onto which the image is projected.
nice video brother, Walmart does exist in the UK, it's just called ASDA, they own it! Though it's certainly not comparable to the beast it is in the USA. A cheap leg of lamb is probably the closest thing you'll find to review from ASDA :)
There is a big niche for cheap 3DOF VR headsets designed specifically for VorpX and watching 3D Blu Ray movies, both of which tasks it should be totally possible to do with a much cheaper headset than the Rift, Vive or Windows MR.
6:36 that track... just how did they not see that
There is always the ps move service, a service that uses a few ps move cameras and 3 controllers to track head motion for 6 DoF, and the two controllers for vive controllers, and this headset would make a perfect replacement for a iVRy iPhone!
i have the oculas quest now but back when this video came out I wanted to get this
