I have literally prayed my whole life for a miracle.
I've had beta thalassemia my whole life that causes me minute by minute chronic fatigue. I would love to get "gene editing". At the risk of my insurance companies economic well-being I don't think they would provide this procedure to improve my well-being to the tune of $2 million dollars.

Just like all technology. The rocket engine can send a satellite to space or a nuclear weapon to a city. Over all the upsides to this technology is immense, especially since it can be used on already born patients. For example it has been shown to help blind adults gain sight for over a year. No one is excluded from its benefits.

YES!!!!! ....I'm glad you mention Francisco Mojica, from Valencia, who was the one who named CRISPR and studied it for 20 years, but Charpentier and Doudna applied CRISPR to gene editing first, that's why they got the Nobel....there are several scientists along the way....then they decided, probably right, I'm proud of them, to give the Nobel to Doudna and Charpentier

Im 32 and when I was 21 I was diagnosed with a genetic condition called Friedrich’s Ataxia. As much as I would love a cure/way to get rid of it, at the same time this really makes me nervous. Especially in the wrong hands. In my opinion humans can’t be trusted with this power. In a medical context it’s looks really good but, in a way, it destroys the joy of not knowing how a human life turns into. It could be bad or something really beautiful.... I’m really not sure what to think.

Very inspiring. I think she paved the way for customization. As I write this comment, my Yorkie (A Yorkshire Terrier dog) running all over the house and for a second I saw his shadow and it really looked like a Wolf. It occurred to me, we need the customization ability. As she said, all the food we eat were customized to fit our needs, we should be able to create better antibody and modified RNA to defend as if we are the X-Men and women 🤓

Someday maybe most people will realize the futility of engaging in stupidly antagonistic discussions with dilettantes.

Let the market determine the nature in which the technology is used. I feel like the Chinese doctor receiving flack is unfortunate. He did what a scientist should do and those who don’t like it are just upset that they didn’t do it. That’s my opinion.
