- Kicking off the first-ever Electronic Entertainment Expo ( E3 1995 )
Sony was preparing the official North American launch of their first
video game console PlayStation. Sony gave their keynote speech about
the pending collapse of the 16-bit video game platform due to its
processing limitations. Sony was about to show the world they were
serious about the interactive gaming business. - Hry
I'm so buying a PS1 as soon as its released!
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
SuperNoX86 PS5 now
BeinZilex Was uploaded of this video at the press conference.
It been out ages ago
Same here, I really want to try out that Twisted metal game that's coming with it
3:49 Is the moment the game changed. Sega was more or less screwed right up until the Dreamcasts failure. I love the Saturn and Dreamcast, but the PS1 and PS2 were technological beasts for their time with an incredibly more affordable price.
Oh no question about it friend, that's absolutely correct. But it was simply the hype I was referring to, and that's what made the PS1 and PS2 the killer consoles of their generations.
kidkoppe Because it was basically running Windows, and it ran a Pentium III, and was made by Microsoft. Also Sega wanted it to run Dreamcast games. Oh and a hard drive...
It's crazy to think how if Nintendo hadn't backed out of talks with Sony, Sony might've just continued working with Nintendo, Sega would still be in the hardware game, and Microsoft might've also stayed on the sidelines just supporting Sega with their software.
To add to what you said, Sony Computer Entertainment had a lethal first party, at first they were on good terms with 3rd party devs that Nintendo more or less controlled with a strict hand. After the intial launch though Sony's 1st party greatly added to their success, imo PlayStation and Nintendo 1st party are the pinnacle of quality, this coming from a kid who was a die-hard Sega fan in the day lol.
This. This is all about Sega. All this is responding to Sega. Not Nintendo.
Two-Ninety-Nine. EPIC!
3:49
The greatest clapbacks of Video game history.
Thank You for preserving a Peace of Gaming History...
***** i'm one those types of Gamers who like to show respect to all Consoles no matter age & hardware & company. Not Every Gamer takes a allegiance to one make of Consoles and then claim the other makes are inferior. But I guess The Vocal Minority will always Stand Out with their more louder voices at the end of the day...
Why are you capitalizing anything but the first word???
I'll watch this again just before the PlayStation 5 Reveal event.
And here we are...25 years later.
Welcome to PS5.

the quote that slowly killed sega when they were already wounded :'(
It is now 2017, I have a PS1 and PS2 on my Sony Xperia.
The era of the N64 and PS1 will forever be in my memory. Such good times. I was lucky enough to have both consoles because the neighborhood kids all brought their consoles/games/controllers over to my house for my mother's daycare service. I was only 5 years old when this happened.
From Metal Gear Solid to Mario Kart 64, games were what kept us moderately quiet. It kept furniture intact, but food in the fridge was always low because we needed many snacks for replenishment. After playing sports outside all afternoon, hours would be spent trying to see who would be crowned champion in Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark. Or Tekken..or even Dark Rift in its glorious 60 frames per second.
Thank you sony for the Memories, and thank you Nintendo fo such a great price point as well.
My family wasnt rich or anything like that, but my father taught us well about saving money; and it was eventually the PS3 40 Gigabyte 399 model that was the first gaming console that I bought with my own hard earned money in 2007.
Wait, Xperias have PS1 and PS2 emulators?
7 year old me in 1995:
Mother how did you afford this?
Sony Computer Entertainment of America CEO:
$299.
I love how he even brings a few sheets of paper with him, giving everyone the illusion that it'll be a long winded speech. Kudos to Sony for that, I know I'm late but shhh.
299 US DOLLARS!
Best... ...console... ...ever! This console made me a hardcore gamer what i'm today. There's no words how much i have experienced with this console... ...probably fucking best memories of my whole life!
Thanks for the Post. The PS1 had the best launch lineup i`ve ever seen for a console at Launch.
The E3 conference that killed Sega as a console developer.
JuicyPlayer Dreamcast not having DVD.
@@RobertK1993 Sega declined as soon as the PS1 was announced.
gotta love oversimplified, hyperbolic history. just like when "smells like spirit" aired for the first time all hair metal and arena rock died
3:50 - The very moment Sony killed Sega. 13 years later, they did the same thing to the Xbox Brand.
Your comment is so og, back then there wasn't even timestamps so the time is not blue. This id truly rare

Thanks for uploading this. I just read about how they had announced the price, and though I didn't have much hope, I figured I'd check anyway to see if anyone actually had a video of the event. That was great! :)
Hello from Germany.
The Song is:
Turn The Beat Around from Gloria Estefan
I remember when I see ps1 games on tv I was blown away. From Sega's midi music and cuts animations to full sound with 3d graphics and movies between levels and loadings, it was so cool.
$100 cheaper than the competition and that was the end of sega..sounds familiar?
EaZyDaDoN xbox is dying now, with the only hope left in the Scorpio. However, sony always has a trick up their sleeve.
@@jdez095 , x Scarlett as well
Ross mathias Xbox Series X.
@@jdez095 Well that didn't age well.
Got up said 299 walked off cool
Wow i remember i was 15 that year and bought one the next year. My mind was blown man.
Thanks Nintendo, you created your best enemy.
You gotta admit, after Sega announced the Saturn was already (and pre-emptively) in stores for $399, walking up to the podium and just saying "$299" was a VERY pimp move.
They cheered for about 30 seconds. That's a lot of cheer time!
Console Wars brought me here.
So the Playstation 4 Pro runs games at a similar framerate to the PS1... Huh
The Last Melon I'm pretty sure some titles run at 60fps. On both consoles actually.
Yeah that is true but there are still some new games that barely reach 30fps which is quite bad really. More down to the developers than the console though I suppose
it's a rush of power MAN
@Willy105 - Yes, it was the famous $299 speech. But you heard the trade show crowd. They loved it ! And then the journalist wrote about it in the major gaming magazines, at the time ^_^
I had to come back to the old classic mic drop. 🤣
The good.
Cool! Thanks man :)!
Gaming has developed so much in 15 years... Just imagine what it will be in another 15 yrs
but.. can it run crysis 3?
E3 then was 100 times better than today's E3 today with a mass of useless people
What a moment !!
Playstations greatest success was Sony's budget, which allowed the playstation to hog up many exclusive developers.
3:50 the exact moment the Saturn lost the console war
lol back when 3d geometry was impressive.
E3 has gotten way more bad ass
more formal of course 😌
well said
*T W O N I N E N I N E*
I was that dude in 8th grade band after Christmas 95 lol. I had a PS, MK3 and Warhawk
Thanks for the many first Sony!
Wow I remember being 12 years old when my parents got me the PS now 25yrs later I have the PS5.
Words to destroy back then "299"
6:39 did they have a band?
^^ this is the time im starting to be adicted to games :D ^^
3:51 Hope we get a similar speech for the NGP this year!
What's the NGP :?
299. *exit stage left*
Chill with the watermark dude.
I saw accolade in that montage wow
wau 299,,, en ese momento nintendo y sega sintieron el terror 3:49
El miedo fue más para Sega, porque para ese entonces la Saturn ya estaba a la venta en Estados Unidos.
yay I got the slim one. :]
Yup, you can see it clearly like that but in games, 30-60 works :)
$299 BOSS move.
Aw man, I'd love to see the Sega conference, announcing the Saturn. :/
Sony aren't trying to mess with us. They allowed for free online play throughout a generation when the competition was charging for it. The fact is online play and servers maintenance cost money, we play on Sony's servers, Yoshida apologized for it but asked us to help them bear with some of those costs, also if we want their online infrastructure to get better they will need the money to invest on it. And still it will be cheaper than the competition's and F2P games will still be free online
I first played a playstation at Kmart the game was medieval & I thought it was so impressive at the time lol. My cousin & I would play twisted metal & duke nukem at his house as well
No puedo esperar a que llegue a mi pais
PS1, the console that launched us into the *LOADING...* *LOADING...* 3D gaming world.
Anybody know what the song that starts to play at the end is?
Conclusión del video: Sony es el Rey
Watching this as I hve the ps5, lol we gone a long way
at 1:00 look at the old EA logo. man this brings back memories.
Sony is only 100 bucks off in an era where the dollar is worth quite a bit less.
Sega in 1996 in regards to the 32X: $19.99.
the minute that terrible music came on at the end they were all running for the door
Deja vu... I swear Sony did that to another company 3 days ago.....
hey man thanks. here's hoping that we'll finally get persona 5 lol
hardace1708 oof
HAPPY 15TH BIRTHDAY PLAYSTATION!
I almost Jizzed in my pants when the music started playing at 6:42
Lol more than half of the game studios shown in the first five seconds don't exist anymore.
Microshaft got eviscerated at E3, there's no way they'll recover from it.
30FPS was a selling point back then lol.....time for 60fps!
4:12 Epic Face xD
There sure are a lot of stains on that ceiling...
the guy in the pic looks like dr.wilson from dr.house LOL
@dweezlzor This was the first E3. I wish I could have been there.
looks like powerpoint hasn't changed much
3:39
So that's what the famous "$399 speech" was like.
Not as epic as I expected, but pretty good for the first E3.
*299
“$299” LIKE A BOSS
3:50
Still the biggest roast in E3's history
dat powerpoint
Everyone talking about how SEGA got fucked after this... the Dreamcast was revealed in 1998. 3 years later...
Poor SEGA
Newsflash: Sony's third party support for PS4 has increased from 126 to 505. Holy fuck!! PlayStation is back. They are even breaking the record PS1 had (400+ worldwide).
I never liked Xbox either but, PS2, PS3 and PS4 wouldn't be what they are without competition...Competition breeds creativity!
now thats how you introduce a price.
A lot better than E3 2010.
$299
And with that, all the wind out of Sega's sail's was gone.
yo can you link that to me? sounds like an interesting read
wheres kaz hirai ??
299 !!! 😲🙌😂
They delivered on every promise they made!!! Thank god Sony came into the video game market!!!
More like Nintendo, damn I wonder if they are still kicking themselves for the dumb mistake they made
I'm getting 2013 vibes from the 3:49 comment.
the slideshow looks like a highschool project
Epic!... 299...
3:49 Boom! In your face, SEGA!
I don't know if there is a reason. But it seems to me, that 60 fps, isn't that much of an achievement :P? But I guess it is the best suitable for humans, or we can't see a difference in higher fps.
Did you know that US aren't the only country with gamers?
